It was messy, but I still loved it. Them my body spontaneously became allergic to eggs. A tragic loss to my taste buds, especially since a lot of the Asian foods I love like to include eggs (Ramen, fried rice, Omurice, Kimbap, oyakodon, etc etc).
I am at a somewhat senior (escalations tech, pretty senior without being in real management) position at my work that involves 100% WFH and a boss who trusts me on my time management, plus watches out for us when we do overtime (I’m salary so gotta get approved time off if going over etc). A bunch of prior coworkers have encouraged me to leave to get better pay, but I don’t wanna give up all those benefits.
I make food at home for lunch, can play games at lunch, right after work, etc. I won’t discuss if I ever play games during my work hours because how dare you accuse me of that and also where did you hide the cameras in my room?
Mental cognition is more important than the right before part, if we expand to the whole cosmere. The powers are different, yet also not that different, as their ultimate source is the same. Going into details would be spoilers for Stormlight and iirc Emperor’s Soul.
You know tons of “Dems” have tons of criticisms for Obama and Biden?
Also you both sides people ignore that one side is mostly incompetent while the other literally wants to actively harm minorities, LGBTQ+, immigrants etc. Biden has been getting a ton of shit for his Israel/Palestine response as well as his union issues. In addition, some of his stances in the past.
Huh… peanuts coming from underground is such an obvious memory for me I don’t recall where I learned it. It feels like something everyone just knows, like carrots, potatoes, and yams. It didn’t occur to me outside of today’s lucky 10000 that a lot wouldn’t know.
I wonder if its really aot of people or just some.
Yeah, that don’t worry about a fire mindset cost me over $4k and the ability to rent apartments for like 5 years. The story is a bit more nuanced than that, but a fire broke out behind my oven while it was left on for a while.
Substitute Hitler for a religious figure. Yes, I know, religious figures at least have mythology surrounding them to explain why they’re still relevant. Anyone could just make that up about Hitler too though.
I killed my Cyberpunk game trying to mod it. I just changed the installation directory, re-download, and loaded from cloud save when I got sick of trying to fix it. It’s so easy to recover from stuff like that nowadays.
Large language models (LLMs) like GPT-4 can identify a person’s age, location, gender and income with up to 85 per cent accuracy simply by analysing their posts on social media....
Same. I’m sure I’ve posted about my location, my job, my race, my history, my real first name, general details of my family makeup etc. I also have a pretty unique name so searching just my first and last name will find stuff about me anyway. I’m even listed by name in books (I was young and dumb and answered some questions about work life).
The proposed solution on the left is never “fix the problems that lead to crime and violence”; rather, it’s “take the tools used to commit crime and violence”
What left are you talking about? Social issues and solving them is generally by definition leftist. If one suggests it they get called socialist/communist in the US even if they’re closer to center if compared to rest of the world.
We also discuss the issue of tons of crime being caused by poverty and lack of social nets, especially when discussing police brutality and the like. Now many of the members of congress people consider/accuse of being leftists are really just centrists, or close to it, or people who want to maintain their power, get votes, not really change the status quo. I’d say they match your definition, but if you’re saying leftists don’t want social solutions then you either haven’t been talking to leftists, or you aren’t fully listening.
My ADHD brain can’t focus well on cleaning unless I get that weird hyperfocus on it. Last time I got it it lasted a couple days and I got a Lotta things done. It was nice.
Sorta the concept behind Twisted Translations, previously known as Google Translate Sings. Though they are intentionally getting a bad result by feeding the Translations through several languages before coming back to English.
When I was a somewhat devout JW (people often say Jehovah Witness as a noun, but that always bugged me grammatically since properly stated it should be "Witness of Jehovah), I told a nonJW Christian friend that I couldn’t be “unevenly yoked with unbelievers.” She (who wasn’t interested in me, she was trying to matchmake me with a mutual friend) got offended since we should all have been Christians and she felt I was calling her an unbeliever.
Certain denominations have so very different beliefs that if followed to their logical conclusions they shouldn’t be able to have relationships, but so many people bend the rules. I fortunately am no longer captive to that ideology, though I do think I’m permanently damaged. Still, not as damaged as people who went through sexual abuse. My stuff is mostly mental and will probably just mean I’ll never have a romantic relationship.
A Staten Island woman buying pot from a local deli got into a misunderstanding with the cashier — who ended up macing her, dragging her outside by her hair, kicking her in the head and mistakenly calling her trans.
They’ve also been stoking the “Black women look trans” narrative for a while, especially focused on Michelle Obama. I listen to Knowldge Fight so I’ve heard so many disgusting Alex Jones clips of him calling her Mike.
I’m not familiar with homestuck but did read a lot of Order of the Stick, where one villian is completely fine with being the bad guy who is to be defeated. In fact, he relishes it, and hopes the story of him being taken out makes him a legend. He craves the tropes.ink explaining it, and why I mentioned Homestuck: saffroncomic.com/…/order-of-the-stick-and-meta-en…
The said thing can also mean you heavily implied it, but never said it. Alex Jones relies on that a lot, saying he never encourages offensive violence, then goes on diatribes about how you’re already under attack and they’re coming to kill you now and yes God should be the one to kill them bur also God uses men as instruments of his will so maybe if you feel like you’re an instrument of God’s will you’re probably right.
Also the version I learned was:
“I never said he stole my money.”
In this version every one of them gives the idea that the accusation of stolen or somehow maligned property occurred, except in the case of never. That one is just straight up denying most of it.
I wouldn’t call myself a Trekkie, but I love Risa or RISA, or however the properly capitalized way it is. I’m not not a fan of Star Trek, I’ve just watched far too little to call myself a Trekkie. Excluding movies, I’ve probably seen something like 30-60 episodes of TNG and DS9. A few of Voyager I guess. Mostly what I caught on TV whole younger, and my memory of them in general is enjoyment. I’ve also read a book or two, but I was also reading SW books and definitely read more of those.
Some of us buy those ironically though. I had a shirt that said (and I unfortunately cannot put it in kana/Kanji atm) something very close to, in full kana and kanji: “I am a stupid American. I’ll buy anything.”
I knee fully what it meant because the sentence was pretty easy, but I still wanted to travel to Japan wearing it.
youtu.be/L6A1Lt0kvMA?si=Cuhyl_9I_7AIu8bu is probably still valid today. Destin is pretty calm compared to people like Brady about it, but still, “exposure” and free clicks aren’t as useful, and technically giants often steal with their own players before actually linking.
It’s more along the aliens, dimensions, and Alex Jones side of conspiracies. Especially in the Alien side, stuff like clones replacing real people, sometimes for weird alien super soldier stuff, but more often stuff like Biden is actually a clone and real Biden is dead/senile.
Or Alex talking about human-animal hybrids and using clones as a sorta false temptation where they say you’ll live forever, but they just replace you with a clone and/or upload you to the singularity except it isn’t you, they just killed you. Because they hate humanity. Inane grunts and yelling, quality depending on how drunk/under the influence he is.
I too used mine as a backup. I don’t have a working one atm, but technically my steamdeck works for most of the games I’d want to keep up with, if a bit harder to use. I can even do ffxiv, though definitely less skilled using the steamdeck. I might try with a dock and my 8bitdo controller and see how that feels (already have both, but haven’t really tested it since I use that controller for switch instead).
I know these are just copypasta, but it’s always alarming seeing people act like sex is a violent act from the man onto the woman, but praising it. High HP? Armor? Shouldn’t sex feel good for both parties involved?
I’m into anime and manga. This trope is overdone there, generally in harem stuff. In the US, maybe Betty and Veronica? I’ve never actually read or followed one, but that was my impression from Tvtropes.
Perhaps they simply mean they don’t want it internet connected at all. If it needs updates, have it be a device, USB or OBD or something, that would be the only vector for updates/direct OS control. Sure, allow internet for some features maybe, but isolate updates and the anything serious from remote tampering.
I forgot I was paying for game pass, so that’s why I’m playing it now. I’m having some fun, but the revisit when mods finish feels pretty true. I only have one loaded atm, but definitely considering some others.
I’d say the first things I’ve seen with the concept were probably stuff like Neverending Story, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, and possibly random cartoons long before that.
For Anime, Fushigi Yugi and Escaflowne I both saw before SAO. Maybe Dual! Parallel Trouble too.
I tend to count stuff like .Hack and SAO as VR not isekai myself, as your body doesn’t really get stronger in the real world, and usually your life in the real world isn’t as affected either. For the ones who have that pining for a real adventure, I prefer permanent changes to “it was all a dream or might as well have been because their are no material changes.”
Huh. Turns out I use most of my games as toys, not games. I rarely finish games, usually getting a lot of stuff done, high leveled, etc, then just enjoying it until I decide ro start over. I also regularly go back to games like Ark, 7 days, City Skylines, Civ VI(but often strip out ein conditions so I can keep playing), FFXIV, etc.
Sure I make short term goals that I complete, but usually not done everything and complete story to win unless doing so gives me something else to do, like New Game+.
I know this is a joke/meme, but I sincerely think of the Roman Empire a surprising amount of times. I find myself obsessing over how Roman citizens were living just as complex lives as we are today, or about Marcus Aurelius’ life and philosophy, or about how the Republic fell and became a totalitarian state.
Generally only if something else prompts it. Such as this meme and the news around it, or a game, or a work of fiction referencing it for some reason. It doesn’t come up independently in my head.
