That’s extremely fucked up if true!

Guess I’ll be blowing the dust off my media PC if Google dare to do something so blatantly greedy.

It real seems like a huge fuck you to the end users, I hope it’s just a tiny test case, or fake, because I really liked my Shield.

I’ve been running a custom launcher since the recommendation paid ads where introduced; maybe I’ll avoid these ads too.

Flashing is pretty easy, been doing it on my phones for years, but never saw the point on media players… Until now!

In the next 10yrs Google with force to watch a full screen ad or pay for an incoming call subscription to answer a call!

I made jokes about Google adding full screen video ads when they introduced recommendations paid ads and I was laughed at.

So glad I ditched the stock launcher.

Currently using Wolf Launcher, has a clean simple grid of my apps and a wallpaper of my choosing, no bullshit.

What is that thing called where you like randomly start picking-up/doing something that you saw someone do and now its a shared “thing” about you cuz you both do it genuinely

Like when Charlie becomes/starts doing a Griecko thing or Michael Scott imitates Ryan’s ridiculous facial hair

I used to think “bloody poms with their rabbits and foxes”, but now I’m mostly angry at cats, bloody cats…

Keep your cats inside people, billions of wild animals are killed by cats every year in Australia, billions!

Does jellyfish count? It’s a bit boring to be honest!

Second would be sea snails and they were pretty nice.

Today I learnt 2 thing…

Carpet burn isn’t real and any old shit gets upvotes.

85% of transitions in Australia are cashless… I don’t think many people care about cash here, I certainly don’t, everywhere takes cashless methods here.

Yeah… What?

Tomatoes are fruits.

This!

My kids have had a few of these over the years and they’re great. At 3-4yrs, they’ll needs some help with instructions and folding, but it’s still a great gift.

I honestly couldn’t name anyone I don’t like because I simply avoid stuff I don’t like. I almost exclusively only watch channels I’m subscribed too.

Why are you watching people you don’t like? You’re literally giving money and attention to them by watching.

Choice Australia did a test of different washing liquid recently and found the Aldi stuff to be one of the best and a bunch of expensive brands to be no better than plain hot water.

bestusername,
@bestusername@aussie.zone avatar

I find the cloth generic band aids to be identical to brand name, the plastic one of any brand, well they’re just crap and I don’t know why the even exist.

There’s no functional difference between +/- and 👍/👎.

Hahaha fuck yeah!

Microwave, lounge, fridge, dozen office chairs and a shit load of stationary.

bestusername,

Office was closing down and the local boss said anything not on the asset register was fair game!

Only from the the guy one level above… Who was also filling his car with supplies without the knowledge of his boss or his bosses boss.

What’s the difference between never connecting your phone to a brand new high tech car and having no tech in an older car?

bestusername,
@bestusername@aussie.zone avatar

I’ve been using Tartube for a few years, unsure of its subtitles capabilities, but it’s really feature packed and it wouldn’t surprise me if it can do you want.

bestusername,

Can we please just have an app for our Android tablets?

bestusername,

I’m not a smoker, but have a few friends that struggled to quit, the ones that succeeded went cold turkey with meds for the cravings.

Go see your doctor!

bestusername,
@bestusername@aussie.zone avatar

What is quality to you? The image size/resolution, the audio sample rate, the noise?

There’s a point where the difference is imperceptible.

I think it’s largely nostalgia behind replies like yours, analogue and digital are different, not a blanket better or worse.

bestusername,
@bestusername@aussie.zone avatar

Well you’re definitely right about remastering/digitising old film…

But if Star Wars was done on old DV, Lucas wouldn’t have been able to digitally butcher it, so there’s that.

bestusername,
@bestusername@aussie.zone avatar

He probably might have remade them… Give me chills thinking about it

bestusername, (edited )
@bestusername@aussie.zone avatar

Probably a stupid question…

What about CarPlay and Android Auto? Is that being intercepted by the car manufacturer?

My basic understanding is Android Auto is pretty much an external monitor for your phone.

Edit: speeling irrers

bestusername,
@bestusername@aussie.zone avatar

Definitely, forgot about that, calls do seem to go via the cars factory Bluetooth system. I can unplug my phone mid call and it jumps to the cars own call screen.

So phone number, duration and possibly caller/contact name would be known by the factory headunit and any other information Bluetooth shares with the connect device.

The car thing is insane, even when you explain that you live in as regional area with limited options AND that I can drive to work in 20mins vs 60mins on public transport, you still get yelled at.

bestusername,
@bestusername@aussie.zone avatar

I’m in regional Australia, it’s unrealistic to ever expect public transport to overtake private transport, we’re too spread out.

I minimise my driving, but I couldn’t survive without my own car, it’s not a black and white issue.

bestusername,
@bestusername@aussie.zone avatar

If you replace “cities” with “rural towns” you might have a better understanding of why we still need cars in regional areas.

Australia is HUGE, the rural towns are far apart and have low populations.

You can’t run a bus/train every 10-20mins for 3 people, you run a bus/train ever 2hrs for 40 people, and they’ll never change.

I’m all for accessible cities, for those that want to live in them, but you’ll never get me away from my quiet rural life on the edge of regional centre. The reality is the transport in my town of 40,000 people has an insignificant impact on the environment compared Sydney, for example, with +5,000,000 people.

bestusername, (edited )
@bestusername@aussie.zone avatar

Australia, 7.8M Km², 26M people.

France, 0.5M Km², 65M people.

You can’t compare rural France and rural Australia, the cities sure, build your 15min cities anywhere the population density suits it, but it doesn’t work in regional Australia.

I reckon 3D animation, a movie animated in both the style and locations of BoTW would be pretty amazing.
