Goodbye Youtube and thanks for all the fish (infosec.pub)

Youtube let the other shoe drop in their end-stage enshittification this week. Last month, they required you to turn on Youtube History to view the feed of youtube videos recommendations. That seems reasonable, so I did it. But I delete my history every 1 week instead of every 3 months. So they don’t get much from my choices....

While I believe that this may be a hostile decision, it was inevitable. A lot of YouTube's revenue comes from ads. Use piped or something

You can ban them (if you're an admin), but the ban won't federate to other instances.

The server should group them. If two crossposts are in the same post listing, the server should combine them and add a property in the API to let us know it was combined.

Also, Lemmy has no concept of a “crosspost”. All it does to check a “crosspost” is check if they have the same URL.

You should try the special events when they rotate. I feel it makes the game a little less repetitive.

Grands prix are pretty “casual” for something big, and they often pretty fun. The pro tracks I always do to get better at them.

Team battles are meh but they’re still cool

My simplest analogy for people who are knowledgeable about computers is that it’s basically a giant driver.

Program wants to write to a CD? Instead of calling an obscure function in an undocumented hardware manual for every single disk ever, you let the kernel handle it by calling a well documented function that works on a lot of stuff it has drivers for.

The kernel will handle what programs want memory and will give it an address space where it can do it’s thing, and will handle what CPU cycles each program gets.

An operating system is basically a kernel that is meant to run and manage programs.
