Does that mean I get my call recording function back? Or is listening in on calls only for our corporate overlords?

But then again, this will probably be as well implemented as Bixby.

Tosti,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

In the US some states have laws stating that recording conversations is not legal unless both parties consent.

I think that is silly but here we are.

Tosti,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Perfect example of the market regulating itself.

Tosti,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Not to mention a large part of the voter ase has fled the country and are living abroad as refugees. Also the logistics of having soldiers rotate off the front to be able to vote would be mindboggling and very dangerous for all involved.

No elections makes sense.

Is it me or are the mtlb’s with field modified enlarged crew compartments becoming mainstream?

Also the bmp with the little roof on the back over the engine deck.

A sympathetic explosion of one of the Iskanders in the vls would have been nice though. But the location of the strike is baffling, < 2 km from the kerch bridge… air defense central.

Tosti,

Can only imagine the pressure this puts all the assets abroad under for the Russians. This means they all have to be on high alert all the time, that also costs a lot in terms of vigilance, money and mental stress.

Tosti,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Tot for tat will be an interesting development.

Tosti,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

I think the current legal text already disallows that. It will make everyone less secure.

Tosti,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Easily movable too between production runs

Tosti,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

So if this is proven, they will be fined 2 billion right?

Tosti,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

It’s a McKinsey study. These people are ghouls. Probably they asked the government spokespeople what they thought on these points.

Tosti,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Hehe, lies, darn lies, statistics.

Tosti,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Yeah but these people are poor… so F them it’s the stock holders that run all the risks and provide so much added value.

Tosti,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Excellent. Especially companies that evade sanctions are rightfully on the list.

Facebook Puts a Price on Privacy in EU, EEA and Switzerland: It’s 9.99€ a Month + 6€ for Each Extra Account (www.wired.com)

Ad free Facebook and Instagram is officially on. I’m trying to stay open minded but honestly it’s too expensive especially with this sneaky account center rule unless you’re in an unfortunate position where you need to spend a lot of time on these platforms....

Tosti,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Why is the headline not: Facebook charges 10 euro per mont for your rights.

I get that using the platform does not have to be free, but I’m no Facebook client so they should not be collecting any data on me.

Tosti,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Darnit! Horror hellscape of fungal infected zombies was not on my 2023 bingo card.

Tosti,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Can you though?

Look what Israël is doing in Gaza needs to stop. Palestine and LGBTQ rights seem to be at odds.

2 state, or one state with actual Citizenship for Palestinians, actual elections… it should be up to them (all inhabitants). But the wholesale bombing, missile attacks, murder of civilians etc need to stop.

Meta May Be Infringing on GDPR With Their New Paid-For Ad-Free Model (tutanota.com)

Recently a European Court has judged that Meta’s way of collecting and using people’s data in Europe has been in violation of privacy regulations between 2018 and 2023. Now Meta announced an option of Facebook and Instagram without personalized ads for 120 euros per year. European users would have the option to pay or agree...

Tosti,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Well, the first question would be if the revenues that meta makes are comparable. Because if they are not an argument can be made it is not a real alternative.

Second, the data COLLECTION, storage and processing is the issue. And all info on the subscription seems to suggest that does not change. Just the ad serving.

Lastly what about all users that don’t have a Facebook account but are tracked regardless. Meta and the other privacy-invasion companies should not be allowed too track me wholesale without my explicit consent, and luckily the law is on my side.

Tosti,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

The data collection should be the problem

Tosti,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Because it is valuable. The question I have if it’s 10 euro a month valuable. (I think it isn’t looking at user base and revenue)

Tosti,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Absolutely. Probably companies paying more will be a thing, with the abolishing of carbon subsidies like wholesale tariffs for large users.

I can even see a tax on PV panels coming. In history we have seen things like window taxes etc.

But… Interesting times.

Tosti,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

I think this argument is silly. It’s like if you went Out in public and paparazzi started haunting everyone out on the street, all the time, even though you are no-one famous.

There is such a thing as privacy, and the fact that I uploaded a picture does not give some other random company the right to wholesale process my images.

We should resist giving companies these rights.

Tosti,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Except the GDPR is written. The right to privacy has been part of several rights charters. But I do agree that legislation does need to catch up more.

Tosti,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

We can disagree here. But if I upload a picture with a specific intent (sharing it in my insta feed for example) why do other companies then have the right to wholesale take these images and use them for other purposes? I think they don’t.

And there is a serious constraint on privacy violations like taking my picture when I’m out and about, since the photographer can only be on one place at a time.

What we see here is privacy violations by automated systems on a scale never before seen. Just by taking the photos and processing them.

Tosti,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

But not to be harvested by third parties to be used for God knows what. Sure the occasional meme is one thing (and can have an impact) but this impacts everyone, everywhere, all the time. It’s not just that one photo, it’s all photos of everyone and also other info like metadata, text posts etc. The fact we don’t even know how what and where the data is collected we don’t even know what they have combined into profiles.

And this does not even speak to potential harm that could come from incorrectly associated info in your profile.

You don’t need permission for essentials. If your side requires a JavaScript to open a window it is fine, same as css, login scripts,etc etc. Even some cookies are fine.

But there already have been rulings by EU courts in the that a script to detect adblockers is not essential. Also GDPR and the cookie regs forbid negative consequences for refusal.

If this is indeed not an ad,

I don’t think a very portable laptop would be the go to choice for video editing.

  • I would imagine checking that the notebook actually uses SoDimm memory and not memory that is soldered I to the device.
  • processor wise you can also look for a notebook with a desktop processor. Although this makes the device bulky.
  • the IdeaPad is the home user quality and does not compare to ThinkPads in therms of build quality. So if you will be taking this everywhere, it will probably not live as long as a Thinkpad.

Also keep in mind with the office 365. The home versions are not for business use.

Tosti,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Healthy choice, I’ll join you in not reading about all of the filth on these platforms. No need for dead baby video’s, no need for psycho’s laughing at other people’s horrors.

The UN is not a legislative body, nor the international law. It was designed to give countries a place to keep talking, and for other countries to voice their opinions on global affairs.

And sometimes large groups of countries coalesce around a subject and actually decide to do something about it (regardless of if the others agree).

And then in an even smaller set of circumstances the majority (or all) decide a situation warrants collective action.

But the bottom line seems to be you are correct in that countries pick and choose their stance on the UN resolutions. But at least they have an avenue to keep talking.

Tosti,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

No no, you can pay xitter to be able to do all that.

They make the big money because they are in control… so they should be also fined if their company breaks the law like this.

This should force them to take corporate governance and compliance more seriously.

As an alternative, the fine would be extwnded to all shareholders. Make all shareholders pay the fine.

Tosti,

So bizarre to see such a push turn around like this. Only to leave Infantry in the open to be hammered by the dpicm rounds.

Tosti,

Seems like they indeed are. And the diabolic dilemma for Ukraine is “beggars can’t be choosers”. We can only hope the system is mature enough and helps saves lives.

Well said! And it’s good that more experts in the field also start demanding the media do their job and stop being propaganda mouthpieces or regurgitation machines.

“that people are blaming Hamas for this attack happening”
What?! You consider it propaganda blaming people that actually perpetrated the attack/slaughter?

Whatever you mean to say about the right wing war mongers in the Israeli government “wanting this war to happen” might even be true, but trying to whitewash Hamas is a vile injustice to what happened.

Tosti,

*“Just say you support Palestinian genocide.”*Nope, I don’t.

  • How Israelis was handing the Palestinians was disgusting and not something any reasonable person could condone.
  • How the Palestinians where handling Israelis was disgusting and not something any reasonable person could condone.
  • What Hamas did is not something any reasonable person could condone.
  • How the Israeli government is responding is not something any reasonable person can condone.

All can be true at the same time. I’m not in any way able to see a way out of the conflict in that part of the world, unfortunately I can only see the horror that unfolds there.

YW, Civil discourse is what I’m here for :).

The Russian MOD kept the various pmc’s for one of several reasons, the most obvious would be:

  • Absorbing the soldiers completely takes time (keeping the command structure in place partially)
  • This way they can keep separate pay structures (via the companies that founded them, other pay scales etc)
  • Marketing (foreign countries would not want Russian military on their soil, but via a PMC there is some form of “deniability”)
  • The powers that be, have not come to an agreement on how to split up the carcass of the Wagner holdings across the world (apparently they hold gold mines and more).

But in the end all the various pmc’s fall under the MOD umbrella now.
