Because Star Trek (the old stuff, not the new stuff) is for nerds, and Lemmy is also for nerds.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Really? I was banned for a similar reason.

Someone asked the question on that sub, “Why do people hate on Discovery”. And I answered.

I wasn’t edgy. I wasn’t trying to insult. I explained, I gave definitions, I made examples. Apparently the moderator wanted my post to be censored because I wasn’t being “honest and truthful with myself” and used words and terms that weren’t allowed, such as “Mary Sue”.

I quoted Drumhead.

The mod really didn’t like that.

  • Lemmino. Quality only got better over the years. Started as a top 10 memes channel. Then became top 10 cool subjects presented like documentaries. Now it’s actual documentaries.
  • Gameranx. Watched them when they were still just two or three dudes just talking about games. All those years, they made it pretty big on YouTube, and they still didn’t lose that vibe.
Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

In this day and age two dudes can’t have some kind of interesting relationship without “relationship” immediately meaning they somehow have to be gay and into each other romantically.

Stop letting other users create pay to win garbage on your platform! Such utter negligence in community moderation is unacceptable.

Also, having a hard coded speed limit that’s too slow to effectively go anyplace is bullshit!

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

VSauce. They used to be THE shit years and years ago. Their content now has been… Rather sparce and uninteresting.

I don’t mind content that takes a long time. Ahoy and Lemmino are great. But VSauce just became… Feeling like a waste of time.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

But he already made those in top 10 format. There isn’t much “mystery” to talk about without hyping up certain things like science journalism tends to do a lot.

He could make a documentary that goes into deeper details about one of the things he already mentioned in his older top 10 videos…

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I started watching VSauce well over 10 years ago, so I’ve experienced how his content changed first-hand. I feel VSauce dropped off when Michael became an internet meme, when VSauce made it “big”. They got their own studio, their own merch box, and I thought this was going to be an upgrade to the content between VSauce 1, 2 and 3. But then Michael made that YouTube Red series and that was basically a brick wall.

Only Jake Roper still made some good videos for some time, but that stopped eventually too. Mindblow stopped, Build It, Draw It, Play It stopped. Instead of seeing anything that would justify having a studio and a team to work with we basically got, like you said, Michael reviewing toys from their merch box, and Kevin doing some math philosophy once in a while.

Mindblow is technically back but… it lacks any energy or soul that the original Mindblow had. It’s sad…

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Top 10 videos aren’t typically my thing either. But Lemmino is next level. His top 10 videos are very well informed, and before he started making actual documentaries, only got longer and longer. It got to the point where every entry in a top 10 vid was like a mini documentary on its own.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Um… I always took that to mean positive slang describing a person. I don’t think I’d use those words for an actual fire. I’d be just a tiny bit more direct.

“Excuse me, I’d hate to bother you, but the other room over there seems to be just slightly on fire… Uh yes… The whole thing…”

How often to you bail on a half-written post or response?

I have had a tendency since my earliest days on social media where I will get halfway or more through a response, and end up just cancelling it. Sometimes I feel like I’m just being to over the top with snark or otherwise don’t want to be that kind of person, but a lot of the time I’ll decide I just really don’t care...

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

A lot of the time.

I often don’t comment on things in the first place, because someone else already covered the points that I want to make. So I do an updoot and leave.

Then there are times I want to write something funny, realise it’s only funny in my head and doesn’t translate to text at all, then just leave it.

Then there are the many times I’m thinking of putting a lot of research and effort into a response to some really stupid take… But I realise it would just be a complete waste of time. Efforts wasted to try and educate someone on science when all they want to do is continue believing in whatever nonsense they believe in.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

No, retro is for those old school upskirts. You know the ones; where this curly haired blond girl is all “eeek!” on a really small stool and the camera is looking right up the skirt.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

So… If I’m commissioned to draw furry smut, does that mean I can stream that to Twitch now?

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Hmm… I think what determines nudity to be artistic instead of porn is the presence of urns. Yes, if there’s an urn you can immediately tell it’s intended artistically.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

This now the third time I’m seeing someone complain about furry porn on Lemmy and I’m just wondering… Where!?

All I ever see is politics politics politics politics tech billionaire farted politics politics politics Elon Musk politics politics.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

But… That depends on the magic, doesn’t it? I’d argue you could easily use magic to fix disabilities. Or do healers not exist in your world?

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Blender 3D, Krita, and Gimp have been the pillars of my creative life. And since last year November I’ve been running Linux.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

It’s useful if you want to make a quick image edit. But otherwise… Yeah.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Perfectly. It runs perfectly. Blender is pretty much at home on Linux, and rendering with cycles is a little faster than on Windows.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, give Trump a good reason to build a big ass wall! XD

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Wait… Does Lord of War even need a sequel? Wasn’t it based on some real life guy?

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

What’s left of my Bionicle collection.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

What in the hell is an Açaí Aka Açaí Na Tigela and why is the name so bloody long!? o_o

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I’ll see if it’s available in Denmark, though… I doubt it.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Then what’s the US?

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Blame the US for that. They want to be the center of the universe. Now they’re the most easy and recognisable country to use as example on how NOT to do things.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I wanted to switch to Linux for several years because I was very sick of how Windows did things.

With Valve doing Proton and Windows 11 being a much shittier Windows 10… With rumours of it eventually becoming a FORCED update!.. I decided to actually switch to Linux last November.

Haven’t regretted it. Haven’t used any other OS since.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I take issue with 06. Denmark is 100% beer country. This chart seems to forget Carlsberg and Tuborg exist. The instant Friday hits water get replaced with beer.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I demand scientifically accurate jokes! >:(

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Damn, that sounds serious.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Reddit has this too. Especially on subs with younger audiences… Or really old entitled audiences.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I dunno man… There’s already someone right here in the comments with “yiffit.net” as their account…

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Funny, because the Boost app I’m using shows ads on the bottom.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Heeeyyyy! I’m only just 30! That’s not old!

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

No pocket and comes reinstalled with UBO. So… Basically just Firefox but with one or two settings switched off and UBO.

… What’s exactly the point here?

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Which Picard maneuver, though?

The short jump one or the straightening uniform one?

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

… I count four.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I’m more of a TNG guy so I’ll be fine in a red shirt.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Well… Lemmy is the place for nerds who understand tech or at least want to understand the tech they’re using. So everything you consider opposed to just being simple is pretty simple to the average Lemmy user.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Elon Musk is getting a taste of how strong workers unions are in Scandinavia. I remember reading something about McDonald’s very nearly getting kicked out of here from Denmark because how it was treating its workers.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Crispy fried duck bowl. Found a place less than 1km from where I live that not only stays open until midnight (which is great because I work late), but also makes the best crispy duck I’ve had in a long time.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

European local VS American local. XD

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Oh no, not again… Last time this happened I lost my teenage years to homelessness.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Art commissions. I illustrate characters mostly for furries. Occasionally it involves smut too… Because furries.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t see much difference. You’re still choosing to believe in a fairy tale, you just don’t like the current available stories.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

No, no, and maybe yes.

There is no Marvel fatigue. There is no superhero saturation. What there is, is simply trash. Make a shit superhero movie and the movie will just be shit. It has nothing to do with there being superheroes.

Hollywood doesn’t get it. People don’t seem to get it either. But these phases are just repeating itself. It used to be cowboys. It used to be cops. Then pirates. It used to be sword and sandals.

Cowboy movies are fun. So are pirate movies and superhero movies. If they’re made well!

The moment some execs look at a bunch of numbers and think “Oh, people will pay money to see X”, THAT is when things go wrong. No, people pay to see good movies. And Marvel used to be hype when they made good movies.

How do y'all deal with programs not supported on Linux?

I’ve been seeing all these posts about Linux lately, and looking at them, I can honestly see the appeal. I’d love having so much autonomy over the OS I use, and customize it however I like, even having so many options to choose from when it comes to distros. The only thing holding me back, however, is incompatibility issues....

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I already used open source programs on Windows. The programs I’m using to do all my work with are Krita, Blender 3D, Gimp, and Libre Office.

They either started out on Linux or support Linux natively, so switching to Linux didn’t really change any of the programs I use. The biggest change is playing games, but Valve has made it very pain free.
