It’s a mobile game - basically a pay to win cookie clicker. It can be kind of enjoyable if you like cookie clickers.

But, no voices, minimal effort content in the game and extremely repetitive gameplay. I didn’t enjoy it but if you like repetitive cookie clickers the flavour text is occasionally enjoyable. This one example reference looks like a bit of fun.

If you are looking for true low maintenance, avoid needing a DB. So I’d stay away from the WordPress suggestions. Not to mention keeping WordPress CVE free is often a full time job and the opposite of low maintenance.

I’d use one of the many tools out there that takes Markdown and coverts it to HTML, stick that in a basic CI job on Gitlab or Github to build out my HTML and I just write markdown.

Once that’s in place how I would decide if I wanted a custom domain.

If I don’t need a custom domain, then I can just augment the pipeline to publish to Gitlab/Github pages.

If I want a custom domain then it depends on budget and expected traffic, but I’d likely just put it on an ECS container or in an S3 bucket and shove cloudfront in front of it, because if it’s small enough it will likely qualify for free tier AWS. If it’s too big for free tier then I’d stick with a container but likely either put it on a cheap cloud node with Apache and letsencrypt and one of the smaller providers like Linode/DO/Vultr

Yeah fair, I think of them as simple… Guess I’ve been in the trenches too long 😂

Ah sorry, I’m an SRE/Devops guy professionally so I forget that containers are still way out of folks experience range 😅

Brand recognition if you’re in the market for a job relevant to the contents of your site or if you plan to run a blog.

Otherwise custom domain is really just vanity.

If you’re looking for things to avoid because it can cause gastric problems, you’re looking for foods that should not be combined.

And yes carbs and animal protein are top of the list (and also one of the most common digestive mistakes people make)

stylecraze.com/…/dangerous-food-combinations-to-a…

From the article:

When you eat a combination of carbohydrate or starch and lean protein (such as meat with potatoes or bread) they counteract each other: the animal protein putrefiesi and the carbohydrate (complex carb or simple carb) ferments. This bad combination leads to gas, bloating and flatulencei (1). Those who have eaten this combination in their diet for years may have developed immunity, but it is better to eat complementary combinations like beans and rice which is a good combination.

I don’t want to use edge, but I do have to admit between Chrome and Edge, Edge has become the less evil. It respects the search and ad tracking opt out settings on your account, and doesn’t disable or cripple ad blockers. The “strict” account wide setting on Edge is so strict that sites will pop up asking you disable ad blockers even if you don’t have one.

This VS the current state of Chrome which undermines ad blocking, and forces you to opt out of ad tracking on every install of Chrome across all devices… Oh… But they’re going to enable ip masquing now… Because they don’t need your ip with all the identifiers they are injecting into your browser.

I hate MS… But the don’t be evil company has done a 180 in a rapid fashion over the last couple of years and sadly… MS is now the lesser of two evils.

Samsung joins Google in RCS shaming Apple (www.theverge.com)

Samsung has released a new video in support of Google’s #GetTheMessage campaign which calls for Apple to adopt RCS or “Rich Communication Services,” the cross-platform protocol pitched as a successor to SMS that adopts many of the features found in modern messaging apps… like Apple’s own iMessage.

Democracy can only last so long while capitalism is allowed to twist and control the minds of the people in it, and the current generation of rich people who control the lobbyists and voter information being sent have realized that an authoritarian hard right democracy favors them as it is in conflict with itself and creates something for the voters to focus on that’s not regulating excess wealth or regulating the manipulation of fair and free elections by a rich few.

So… no one was being shamed in the context of that scene though?

Seven was “researching” - B’Elanna was confronting her for spying. And Seven was being her usual blunt socially naive self.

Full context from the scene: www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0o3ADTJVlo&ab_channe…

Edit: Just to be clear - I agree with your point about shaming, I just don’t understand the relation to this which was meant as more of a joke in the context of the situation.

They are the worst streaming service. They looked at cable TV and said “this is perfect” while being apparently oblivious that most people who pay for streaming services HATE cable TV.

The only thing that made Prime worth it was shipping, but then Amazon decided they wanted to own the whole shipping process and stopped using reliable shippers and brought it all in house and now its a dice roll if you are going to get your package or if its going to be lost, and half the time its damaged.

I order anywhere else now and canceled prime.

Routhinator,
@Routhinator@startrek.website avatar

Not entirely, but a lot of people won’t be up for having their OS load from a cloud every boot, and that’s where MS is currently talking about taking the next version of Windows. I know a lot of people who won’t pay for a monthly sub to their OS or want to have internet charges for downloading a cloud OS either. That will be a breaking point for a lot of people once the last “real Windows” OSes drop off of support.

That or people will just keep reviving XP.

They can? Because I just checked on my Pixel 7 running latest update of Android 13 and the documented feature does not exist under safety and emergency. The update I’m running was released on July 5th and there are no newer updates available.

Centralization is the core problem of social media though. It allows a single entity control over the data and as soon as you have that, you have Zuck.

Routhinator,
@Routhinator@startrek.website avatar

I feel like the strange one in this post because I HATE algorithms. I want chronological order of what I am following, and a chrono feed of everything for discovering new people. I find that Mastodon is great this way so long as you’re on a server that hasn’t disabled the federated feed.

All the folks complaining about their only being able to discover people/content from things their local instance are following are apparently on instances that only have the local feed turned on, or maybe have never looked at the federated feed.

The official Mastodon app doesn’t show federated. Tusky is the way.

Routhinator,
@Routhinator@startrek.website avatar

In 2023, there is very little democratically controlled anything left that has not been tainted by the ‘capitalist gains mindset’ - most democratic social programs that are far more fundamental than a social network have either been corrupted and impaired by corporate greed or have had enough legislative protections or funding sources cut out that they can no longer operate properly, allowing the argument for ‘privatisation’ - a one way ticket back to corporate greed. They operate at the whims of corporations and no longer serve the people.

While I believe what you say is true, it’s not something we’re capable of in the current state of civilisation.

Routhinator,
@Routhinator@startrek.website avatar

If you use the official Mastodon app, or an instance that has disabled it - you are unable to see the Federated timeline, which is why you would only see the Local timeline - IE things the people on your instance are sharing or following.

The federated timeline is a chronological stream of everything. A bit fast, but kinda magical in a way because I discover so many people just by spending 10-15 minutes combing through it during my visit each day.

I’ve also started following the same celebs/orgs that I used to follow on other social media.

And most importantly, I control what I see - not some algorithm funneling me into a partisan view of the world, which is a massive part of the issue with Twitter and Facebook and their relationship to current political situations.

Routhinator,
@Routhinator@startrek.website avatar

I love combing through the federated timeline and randomly finding someone new to follow or maybe just interact with that day. It’s my choice, it’s happenstance (based on chronological feeds and when I take time to look) and it feels like running into new people in the real world in a way.

Algorithms tend to funnel people into partisan views of the world. They find people that think like you and follow the same topics as you and eventually without realising it you become partisan and unwilling to talk or compromise with someone with different views. It’s this part of social media that has made political situations hot and compromise seem impossible… I am digressing in my ramble though.

I curate people in my follow list based on looking for things I know I like at first and people/celebs I know I follow elsewhere. 10-15 minutes a day I spend looking through the federated timeline (not the local timeline which is the only one available in the official Mastodon app) and I will interact with or find new people to follow at random. And then occasionally I go to people I am following and see who they are following to find new things as well.

All my posts are chronological in my feeds, which means I can actually find them again.

And one other thing I’ve noticed on sites with algorithms like Twitter… eventually you’re just seeing the same people over and over again from the algorithm. There are thousands and thousands you’ll never see because it will never think they are important enough to show you. Chronological feeds are unbiased and give everyone and equal platform… for better or worse… but after years of Facebook and Twitter algorithms, I strongly feel that’s for the better.

Routhinator,
@Routhinator@startrek.website avatar

True, but it makes it possible to breakaway from an instance or leaders that are toxic/circumventing your privacy for profit without having to find a new tool or network. You can just hop to another instance.
