Is there a term for that phenomenon where someone gets so far into a topic that they become unaware of how much contextual knowledge they have about it?...
My brother and I have been best friends for most of our lives. He’s so much fun to hang out with, has a great degree of emotional intelligence, and I’m just so proud of him.
I noticed that a lot of the posts on Lemmy are news, memes, and interesting discussions. I like the regular flow of content we have, and I find a lot of it engaging....
Nothing is good enough for Lemmy. Anything you post will inevitably be downvoted. Because users here care more about making sure the world knows they don’t personally like something than about encouraging original content.
I was raised in cult that told me the world was going to end when I was still a child. I was never supposed to hit teenagerhood, and here I am in my 40s.
So far, I’ve encountered far more negativity on Lemmy than I did on reddit. Ymmv, but I feel like our smaller user base has concentrated the negativity.
As an example, I started c/52weeksofbaking (copied over from reddit). Its a place for amateur bakers to challenge themselves, try new things, and share their successes and failures. There’s zero reason to downvote posts there. I stickied a request for people to not downvote in that community. It’s currently sitting at 20 upvotes and 18 downvotes.
We can make fun of people for caring about fake internet points, but if we want to get more people to use lemmy and create content, we need to create communities that feel welcoming.
I carry a powerbank and various USB C adapters so if someone’s device dies I can help them out. It is a lot cheaper and smaller than carrying around seven different cables....
Currently cooking for friends and family. I let them know what I’m cooking that week; they can opt into any of the meals. I just make extra of those, and they give me $10 per portion.
Hello! I’m looking for help in finding ways to stay up to date with News “of the World” in the modern age. Having de-Googled (and, therefore, abandoned Google News), I find it hard to track what is going on outside of links posted to Lemmy/Mastodon (my only social media), and have no subscriptions to any streaming channels...
Assuming you’re driving, I find putting my car keys with the thing works. Just be careful if you have a fob; sometimes they don’t work as well after being in the fridge.
This week I’ve spent more time untangling this damn cake than actually crocheting. So I finally gave up and re-wound the leftover thread into a smaller ball. Much better....
Traveling across the US is like switching to an alternate dimension where everything is pretty much the same, but a few things are off. Like, Congress is the same, but suddenly there are dunkin’ donuts everywhere and the land is weirdly flat
