Watch people flock to yet another corporate social media honeypot instead of going for something less dystopian.

I’m afraid it’s mostly that last one.

Are you referring to the Digital Markets Act that would force some large tech players to allow interoperability?

I think it’s a great step forward, although I think it’s only in 2024 that those changes will actually happen.

Does steam ui restart in the background while playing games for anybody else?

First off I’m on wayland with Nvidia and I know that’s a cardinal sin but I still wanted to see if anyone else is having the same problem. Simply, steam ui seems to crash or go unresponsive or something in the background while I’m playing games and then it relaunches itself and takes focus from the running game without...

I have similar issues running Gnome on AMD.

This won’t do, they don’t have a pun or funny reference in their URL!

Really goes for almost everything. I don’t want my machines and appliances to be ‘smart’ and ‘connected’. I just want them to do the thing I use them for, that’s it.

Good, long overdue.

Is there anything on the accompanying Digital Markets Act and it’s effects? I can’t seem to find any comprehensive recent articles.

Use any messaging app and choose to make it default. Make core messaging functionality interoperable. They lay out concrete examples like file transfer.

I’ve read some things like this. Is it correct that messaging services will need to interoperate? WhatsApp, Messenger, iMessage? Would love to be able to message people that I can’t easily reach now from Signal for instance.

It’s main purpose is to make some die-hards angry, I think.

One of my cats snores a lot and loudly, but it’s also very cute.

What are some game genres / styles you like that aren't being made anymore, or are being mde but not very often?

For me it’s first person puzzle games. I can think of maybe a dozen off the top of my head that came out in the last decade. I especially enjoy when they’re open world. The ability to just quit a puzzle that’s stumped you and go try something else for a little bit is incredibly refreshing.

Are those still playable? Loved those, great vibe!

Seems like the right approach to start their own server, instead of making accounts on some of the flagship instances, which only perpetuates the centralisation dogma.

Mysteriarch,
@Mysteriarch@slrpnk.net avatar

No of course not everyone or every organisation has the means for that. But those that have should, and others should fan out over different instances: local or regional ones, or thematic ones, instead of congregating on the same three instances because it’s ‘the main one’.

Played Dredge on the Steam Deck, which was a nice, relaxing experience.

Besides that I’ve been playing Blood: Fresh Supply on my beefy gaming pc. Great fun, much glee when blowing up hordes of cultists.

We have a lot of people of Turkish decent, so maybe that’s part of the explanation? Not sure though.

Three years completely on Linux, because I botched my dual boot and decided to try without the Windows partition and… never had to install it again! Happy user!

Been playing Assassin’s Creed Odessey lately. It’s fun and big, but I think, ultimately, Origins was a better game. There was a lot more cultural diversity present and they changed some mechanics for the worse imho. But it’s kinda cool how smooth it runs on my Linux machine!

Mysteriarch,

I didn’t even know it had released yet. And at my job they’re still using 10.

Mysteriarch,
@Mysteriarch@slrpnk.net avatar

Yes, exactly like here! But you know, let’s make it centralized and maybe closed-source, that’ll teach those corporate overlords! /s

Mysteriarch,
@Mysteriarch@slrpnk.net avatar

Even better would be if they spread out over more instances instead ofself-centralising on a few ‘flagship’ instances. But no judgement, it’s understandable; just keep in mind you can always move to another and connect with the same communities!

Mysteriarch,
@Mysteriarch@slrpnk.net avatar

Just check join-lemmy.org/instances and see if there’s an instance that speaks to you. It’s theme (or lack thereof), politics, location, size, who it does or doesn’t federate with, etc. But like I said, no pressure, it’s normal to have to find your footing first.

Mysteriarch,
@Mysteriarch@slrpnk.net avatar

Not sure if it’s entirely solarpunk, but Timberborn has some nice vibes!

Mysteriarch,
@Mysteriarch@slrpnk.net avatar

There’s a whole bunch of smaller (indie) games in my cart right now. I’ll have to check each of them out a bit better and see if they’ll run on Linux and probably throw half of them out.

I am curious about Dredge though.

  • 1 for Cloudpunk. I’m also very curious to its more extensive sequel Nivalis!

Boltgun uses 2D sprites, no?

When I came back to Linux in 2020 as a non-technical user, I got recommended Manjaro by a friend. But I found it has issues and when I reinstalled I just went to Arch directly. I found it not that hard to install and use and it really serves me well. So I’ve stuck with it.
