My feelings about beehaw as a community changed today, which is why I’m leaving.

But I will give some thought to it. Maybe if the admins don’t delete it I can leave it in place and the comments and posts can be of some use to someone.

@CrimsonOnoscopy@beehaw.org avatar

I think a sports community might be a better fit for this. I’m also noting that you’re getting downvotes, which are necessarily off-instance since they aren’t supported on Beehaw.

But right now I don’t find any sports communities while searching, and so that makes me think it can stay here for now. This is related to an international event, even if it is a sports event.

I’m not a mod anymore, but downvotes are disabled on beehaw.

Not every protestor is necessarily prepared to face big jail sentences.

I’ll take this down since it’s on the wrong place.

CrimsonOnoscopy,

I still have it on my GrapheneOS Pixel

CrimsonOnoscopy,
@CrimsonOnoscopy@beehaw.org avatar

It’s just in the main calling app, the standard ‘phone’ one. Possibly a Graphene exclusive.

I would rather give them a higher amount of higher-cost and more accurate weapons. I know why the US wouldn’t, and why Ukraine accepts this. It’s their choice in the end.

I don’t think we particularly need to celebrate this though.

CrimsonOnoscopy,
@CrimsonOnoscopy@beehaw.org avatar

It has nothing to do with us.

I think you will find that the liberal-capitalist world order with some semblance of norms like national self determination and resistance to overt nationalistic annexation does benefit the US.

Note that I’m not saying I like this world order, or the US politic. But your assertion looks false to my eyes. Even if there was no moral issue of enabling Ukrainian self defense because Ukrainian self defense is a moral good, the USA benefits from preventing authoritarian regimes from using military force to swallow up their neighbors. And so do the European countries.

Take some time to think about whether these are positive contributions you’re making, or if you’re just being argumentative. You’re also not approaching my argument with good faith.

“In the past, it was not uncommon for an archaeologist to find (remains) and say, ‘OK, this individual has a sword and a shield. Therefore, he’s a man.’ Of course, deeply mistaken, because it assumes that in the past gender roles were the way we conceive them today,” García Sanjuán said.

Just to put it out there, but no serious archeologist has believed this for a while.

Consider the two clearly gay women burried together in an Old Norse tomb, with their cannabis seeds and Swastika-engraved Buddha statue. The idea that male dominance and disarming of women is universal is not something anyone can believe after making a serious study of history.

Just consider the Albanian women who took up male identities to become warriors. Note that I’m still referring to them here as women since arguably these historical practices are less about trans identity and more about social positions.

CrimsonOnoscopy,
@CrimsonOnoscopy@beehaw.org avatar

two clearly gay women

Or perhaps, to phrase it like a historian - roommates accidentally buried together

CrimsonOnoscopy,
@CrimsonOnoscopy@beehaw.org avatar

Almost every historical culture has had at least 3 gender roles, third gender usually being ‘effeminate male’

Just as a mod note, since this is about spreading environment harms, it seems to fit with "News that is American but has an international facet " to my eyes. I don’t see a reason to move this to usnews exclusively.

There are many examples of riots working, and many examples of strikes that don’t.

The English language article includes the wording delinquency. You’d say this is a false description, based on the French article?

CrimsonOnoscopy,
@CrimsonOnoscopy@beehaw.org avatar

So what this probably means in practice is that this power is assured to be abused to target activists and civil disobedience.

As is tradition, whenever a repression institution is created, it’ll be used almost exclusively on the left with a few token Nazis thrown in if they get a little too terroristic for the current tastes of the powers that be.

To my eyes, Macron clearly has some egotistical and authoritarian impulses.

He clearly seems to believe that he knows better than other people, and has little patience for what they want or say.

CrimsonOnoscopy,
@CrimsonOnoscopy@beehaw.org avatar

There needs to be an alternative to both Macron and Le Pen. I would love to see Macron forced to retire, though considering his authoritarian impulses, it seems unlikely without a vote of misconfidence from parliament.

Note that I’m not super familiar with French political process, so I’m not totally sure how that’d need to play out.

CrimsonOnoscopy,
@CrimsonOnoscopy@beehaw.org avatar

Le Pen, yes.

CrimsonOnoscopy,
@CrimsonOnoscopy@beehaw.org avatar

Sounds pretty authoritarian if you ask me

CrimsonOnoscopy,
@CrimsonOnoscopy@beehaw.org avatar

Sounds like it’s time to destabilize the government and overthrow the presidency.

Maybe the Assembly can’t do it, but the people sure could.

CrimsonOnoscopy,
@CrimsonOnoscopy@beehaw.org avatar

Another time, don’t forget to set the language to English rather than Undetermined! It’ll give your post a broader reach.

I think that this would be better suited for a tech news community, but, I’m not going to remove it at this point.

It did seem like they were speedrunning towards getting people to ignore twitter links.

Electric engines completely change the crash & fall dynamics.

As someone with long bike riding experience - for commuting - you couldn’t pay me to write something so irresponsibly dangerous.

You essentially have a weak motorcycle with zero safety features.

Seems like these great powers - USA and China - are both increasingly operating outside their national borders.

CrimsonOnoscopy,

Unfortunately, it even used to be law and not just culture, that consent was not required within marriages.

It’s been a long and uphill struggle but this seems like an important step.

I do find it frustrating that in these discussions, the assumption is often implicit that women are raped, and men are perpetrators. Which is extremely false and carries harms to men and boys who are victimized, or anyone including girls and women who are victimized by women. The MEP’s could stand to use more broad wording here I think.

CrimsonOnoscopy,
@CrimsonOnoscopy@beehaw.org avatar

For sure, improvements to law are likely to also benefit male-assigned victims. It’s mostly the wording I have a problem with- Believing that they can do better.

CrimsonOnoscopy,
@CrimsonOnoscopy@beehaw.org avatar

I don’t think I understand what you mean. Are you asking about the origin of patriarchy and rape culture?

CrimsonOnoscopy,
@CrimsonOnoscopy@beehaw.org avatar

I think it's nice to actually have human-scale communities. On reddit, you never or rarely ever talked with a person - you know?

CrimsonOnoscopy,
@CrimsonOnoscopy@beehaw.org avatar

Can’t blame em for trying to win the cat/mouse game of adblocking.

IDK; I blame them.

YouTube has become part of the world’s social infrastructure. In a way, it is the town square.

Frankly it should be publicly owned.

C-18 has the potential of harming Canadian content by isolating it, just like is happening here. On a platform like YouTube, this law might cause Google to redirect a lot of traffic to Canadian content creators - Which isn't really the traffic of people who are actually interested in that content.

This then hurts the engagement stats of Canadian creators, as a large number of users start watching a video and then leave, uninterested. It's another example of a law with a positive intent that ends up actually hurting people on the ground. Saw this whole topic differently after reading "Seeing like a State: How certain schemes to improve the human condition have failed."

I should let you know what is being allowed (beehaw.org)

Please read the replies to the link i posted in this linked post. It highlights a lot of really upseting content that is pushing LGBT people away from this instance and makes people feel uncomfortable or unsafe in a safe space. Reminder a persons right to exist peacefully shouldn't be up for debate and they shouldn't be treated...

FWIW the community response seems strongly against this dEbAtE mE bRo Scheiße.

Bans are necessary when someone wants to debate the existence of trans people (or anyone).
