I'm excited to see how we upgrade everyone's houses to handle charging. I don't think my house can handle it without spending thousands to upgrade. Not to mention adding chargers to all apartments and condos.
On an average day, I probably drive less than 20km. However, I'm frequently making trips about 300km out of the city with family. When I'm staying out that way I don't have a garage to park in. There is zero public transit and I don't think I've seen a single EV out that way.
Though the details surrounding the most recent arrest in Ottawa remain unknown, community leaders and experts say they’re worried the ongoing Israel-Hamas war has led to an uptick in antisemetic and Islamophobic hate, and risks increased radicalization of youth....
The media won’t give me great answers to this question and I think this I trust this community more, thus I want to know from you. Also, I have heard reports that Russia was winning the war, if that’s true, did the west miscalculate the situation by allowing diplomacy to take a backseat and allowing Ukraine to a large...
A spaceship captain game with an AI crew that follows your orders, and is focused on problem solving and exploration rather than combat and resource gathering. Kind of like ongoing episodes of star trek, but in game form.
Possibly, but I was picturing being able to move around the ship and you would have to manage your crew by assigning roles. Almost like rimworld meets bridge crew meets star trek online.
I don't understand why they don't use carbon tax revenues to fund public transit, electric car rebates, and other noticeable benefits. Instead, I pay carbon tax to heat my house, on my fuel and I still have to pay $20 a day in transit.
Instead, it's a black hole of who knows where it goes. This is the Canadian way of solving problems though. More taxes and no accountability until it bites us in the ass.
I'm just going to edit to add:
Electric cars aren't great in Canada. Distances are often too far and cold weather really restricts batteries. We will always need some type of fuel.
Same with home heating. Heat pumps don't work in very cold weather. We will still need to burn fuel.
In both cases we are paying carbon tax when we really have choice of "cleaner" alternatives.

Allowing online gambling ads has been a terrible idea. The commercials are awful and they are everywhere. They are probably the worst commercials dreamed up from the depths of frozen Canadian hell. I can't even leave the TV on in the background if I'm doing something else.
Tensions flared in the House of Commons on Monday over opposition calls for House of Commons Speaker Anthony Rota to resign after apologizing to the House of Commons for inviting, recognizing and leading the chamber in a standing ovation for a man who fought for a Nazi unit during the Second World War.
I didn't know any Americans cared about Canadian politics. Welcome. It's a dim place, but at least we're not quite at dark cesspit yet. We are doing are darnedest to get there though.
An affordable housing crisis that is hurting the Canadian government's popularity will take years to resolve, even if construction hits an 80-year high, Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland said on Saturday.
I don't understand. Why do they need to "take on the bank of canada"? As you said, Monetary policy isn't the only tool. Monetary policy is set by the bank of canada. The bank of canada is doing exactly what it is supposed to.
The government sets fiscal policy. Currently the government is in a spending frenzy, which is counter to the Monetary policy.
Yes. I agree with you. I think that's an awful idea. It wasn't clear what the poster was suggesting, which is why i asked for clarification.
He asks whether the government will interfere with the BoC, but then says that is only one tool. Then suggests the BoC is incorrect with raising rates since housing prices are not dropping.
Again, the BoC is doing exactly what it is supposed to. The government is failing to address the other issues, which really isn't a BoC issue.

I had been wanting to learn how to play the guitar for years, but laziness, i guess, kept me from it. I picked it up with moderate seriousness and am very greatful i did. I wish i would’ve started sooner.
I started playing the piano. I have just learned from books and the occasional you tube video. I still practice everyday. I can't tell if I'm actually getting any better, but I do enjoy it.

I don't think you have to be extreme right wing to have legitimate concerns for the future of Canada. The country is literally on fire. Houses are over $1 million and health care is barely functioning.
Hello, all! Longtime lurker on Reddit and now on Lemmy. I’ve tried looking into getting out of the US as things aren’t looking too great as I’m sure many of you know, but wanted some tips from those of us who have gotten out. Where did you decide to move to, and what were the things you looked at when deciding to move...
Depends which province, but you will most likely have a corrupt, inept premier. Health care and education are neglected to a dangerous point. The federal government is a contest of who can be the biggest bozo and still get elected as prime minister.
The ideology in Canada is to pay as much money as possible for everything and try not to complain. Prices for goods and services are out of control. Housing is so unreasonably priced that there is no realistic way of affording to rent as an individual or to buy a house without inheritance.
Taxes are on everything and can be quite significant. Most people don't realize how much tax is included in the costs of most things we buy.
We are also bringing in so many new immigrants so there is a constant labour pool to churn through and wages only ever increase nominally.
If you're coming to Canada with a chunk of money, you'll probably be ok until it's taxed out of you. If you're hoping to move to Canada, get a job and rent or buy a place, then life will be tough.
I hear you. I am hoping our issues are temporary up here. Honestly, our biggest issue is that housing is astronomically expensive and no one has tried to even fix it in earnest. Rising rates are having an impact. Houses are going up for sale and sitting there. At some point it will break and prices may drop.
My 13 hour flight just got delayed 7 hours, I’m stuck at my second airport, and I dont think I’m gonna make it. I was like you once. Then, one day I realized that i really enjoyed watching first contact. It may even be my favourite of all of the start trek movies, original and TNG.
Eventually, I even appreciated insurrection. It is a little more light hearted than the other TNG movies. When the old crew began to feel younger, it just makes you happy.
That being said, I also watched the first star trek movie again recently, which is easily the one I've watched the least of all of them, and I will say I really enjoyed it. Maybe my tastes are just changing. Maybe my mind is going. Who knows.

However, I also installed baldurs gate 3 and i have only looked at the beginning. I am a fool though and I also pre ordered starfield. My next few weeks are going to be busy.
I will inevitably buy the game, but I swore off buying anything at launch. I played both baldur's gates games, both neverwinter nights games and all of their expansions. Each one was easily my favourite game at the time....
