She/Her, Also @MargotRobbie

Academy Award nominated character actress.

She is all of us, yet I’m not her, but sometimes I play her on TV.

So who am I?

And what will be my ending?

This profile is from a federated server and may be incomplete. Browse more on the original instance.

MargotRobbie,

Playing dumb on the Internet is really funny.

As I said before, there is always a certain urge for people, especially smart people, to teach others what they know, it can get annoying sometimes, but it makes always make people so happy to share their knowledge with others.

Now, can someone please explain to me how to use this “Lemony” website to promote my movies? 🥺

MargotRobbie,

I am not clicking on that.

MargotRobbie,

Lemmy doesn’t have Karma, it’s not visible on the webUI currently and will be completely removed in the next version.

MargotRobbie,

Lemmy’s biggest competitor at this point isn’t reddit, it’s Discord, or rather, the monster it has become. It seems to me that instead of creating a subreddit nowadays, every project now wants to use a Discord server for everything.

The problem with that is:

  1. Asking messages in a big, open chatroom (over, say, 20 people) gets real messy, real quickly.
  2. Conversations on Discord are difficult to follow when multiple of them are going at once.
  3. The conversations containing solutions to problems in chat or threads are not search indexable, which is the reason why reddit became quietly dominant in search results, it is simply the biggest centralized repository of organized English language text conversations available.

So why do people insist on using Discord servers to build their community? Simple, it’s the network effect. If somebody wants tech support, it’s way easier to click a Discord invite on an account for group chat you already have than it is to sign up for yet another forum that you only use once. But Lemmy doesn’t suffer from that problem of traditional forums because of federation.

Which brings me to my point, if Lemmy is to grow, it’s better to sell Lemmy to disgruntled Discord admins and forum owners to move their community than it is to get people to move off reddit at this point, since people who wants to leave reddit has all done so at this point.

MargotRobbie,

Look for Goodyear welted boots, if the soles wear out, you can take it to a cobbler to resole them.

MargotRobbie,

@MicroWave, care to comment on your creative process?

MargotRobbie,

Here’s one that’s lazy, pretty much foolproof, and uses all canned food from the pantry. (If you know what it’s called, good for you.)

  1. Add oil to stockpot, put in anchovies, dried red pepper, and garlic, fry it up a little bit until it smells good.
  2. Add in a can of crushed tomatoes, drained olives, and caper. Boil, then simmer.
  3. Cook some spaghetti to al dente(approximately 6-7 minute, SALT THE WATER, DON’T OIL THE WATER)
  4. Drain the pasta and mix into sauce, add olive oil and Parmesan to taste, serve.
MargotRobbie,

A magical school sim/manager. Imagine how cool it would be to build your own Hogwarts with moving staircases and hidden rooms and passageway, and watch the world of magic come alive as students go about their daily school life.

That, or an actually good AAA Barbie game.

MargotRobbie,

Winning an Oscar for the first time! (Hopefully)

MargotRobbie,

As Lemmy’s only real celebrity, I take offense to that.

MargotRobbie,

I’ve even seen someone trying to shill the “Barbie” movie here, it’s like, we get that it is a really good movie and the lead actress gave an Oscar worthy performance of a lifetime and is also like, really hot and really funny and all, but why would they want to shill this movie on this obscure technology forum, of all places?

MargotRobbie,

That’s esteemed… generic Lemmy user who is totally not an award winning character actress to you!

MargotRobbie,

I blame Ryan Gosling.

Also, it would be late spring in Brazil right now, since it is in the Southern Hemisphere like Australia.

MargotRobbie,

That’s because it’s my name, silly!

MargotRobbie,

I noticed there are certain people here who always seem to comment on every single post here.

How do they find the time to do this? Are they on strike from their day job or something?

MargotRobbie,

Yay I’m an Internet celebrity now!

MargotRobbie,

That’s esteemed Academy Award nominated character actress Margot Robbie to you!

MargotRobbie,

I want to see my name in “List of Oscar winners” this year.

MargotRobbie,

Some of you who are complaining Lemmy are seeing though rose-tinted glasses about what reddit was like back in the day. The majority of the site was never good, and it had always had plenty of embarassing/messed up things on there that you had to sift through, but it’s a different, sterile kind of bad now.

Here are a couple of reminders of what reddit was actually like, in no particular order.

  • Ron Paul
  • Faces of Atheism, "Euphoric"
  • AdviceAnimals, Rage Comics
  • Spacedicks
  • r/jailbait
  • The entire Boston bomber saga

This is why I would never admit to using reddit in public, and until recent years, I would imagine most people won’t.

So if anyone complains about how the current content on Lemmy is driving people away, remember, Lemmy is positively TAME compared to this supposedly “Golden Era” of reddit.

MargotRobbie,

Speaking of monetization and propaganda, for your consideration, “Barbie”, now available on Blu-Ray and streaming services everywhere!

MargotRobbie,

Let’s look at some numbers and do some napkin math:

Currently, the top post of Lemmy can usually get a little more than 2K upvotes, which puts Lemmy at about late 2010 to early 2011 reddit level of activity, which is right before reddit hits its explosive growth phase in 2012 with SOPA, Kony, and the Obama AMA. While active user count has been going down, the amount of post and comments have both been steadily going up.

You also have to realize that in more than a decade, there was never a reddit alternative that has EVER hit this level of activity. (unless you count 9gag or the_donald for some reason.)

MargotRobbie,

NO. NO FEET PICS. BAD.

MargotRobbie,

That’s esteemed Academy Award nominated character actress Margot Robbie to you!

MargotRobbie,

Never been on Hexbear before, eh?

Ask your admins to implement some emojis. We have them on LW, but nobody ever really use them. Just a culture thing I guess.

MargotRobbie,

But that’s what custom emojis essentially are, small pictures you can embed into text, just like with Twitch emotes.

MargotRobbie,

The best purchase I’ve made this year has to be the tickets for the “Barbie” movie on opening day July 21st. As I watched the movie in theater (the best way to watch a movie), I was literally moved to tears by the performance of the lead actress, whom I might add, deserves an Oscar this year.

Fellow lemmings, I, for one, will definitely be buying “Barbie” on Blu-ray to have it in my collection.

Multiple copies, in fact.

MargotRobbie,

Not to brag or anything, but I’m pretty good at both science AND memes.

MargotRobbie,

Aw shucks, thanks.

Wait, no, now my cover is blown. 😭

MargotRobbie,

Looks like I completely dissappeared into the role of “average Lemmy user” here.

That’s called acting.

MargotRobbie,
  1. Memes. I don’t know how it works either so I’m just going with it.
  2. I’m sure he would appreciate the sincere thoughts of you as his friend more than a social media comment left by a complete stranger from the Internet. Which is what this is.

Still, hi Rome!

MargotRobbie,

I want to believe that this is probably the actual Flying Spaghetti Monstert that made this post on Lemmy.

Because it would be really funny.

MargotRobbie,

No.

MargotRobbie,

Accidentally become the main character not just in every single movie I’m in, but on social media this time.

Why does this keep happening to me?

(and still no Oscar. Sigh.)

MargotRobbie,

Everyone on the fediverse is a white male tech nerd.

I’m not, I was here to promote a movie.

(So, only 2 out 3.)

MargotRobbie,

Mastodon has some actual celebrities, although Bluesky is where most of them have gone.

🥺

MargotRobbie,

I usually really like seeing the little number pop up when I get a response on my comment, instead of dreading it’s someone trying to pick an internet fight. People are nice here. (Usually)

But it needs more original content, that’s how Lemmy and the entire fediverse can grow.

MargotRobbie,

Is it a promo thing?

I did do my movie promo here in July before the SAG-AFTRA strike started. (it’s all on my lemmy.world account) Then the movie did amazingly well at the box office, I thought maybe I found the hidden secret to social media success, so now I wanted to see if I can shitpost my way into finally getting an Oscar this year.

Do you actually use Arch(why?)?

A few years ago, I thought it would be funny if I learned how to use Linux and tell people that “I use Arch by the way” like the meme, so I spend a couple of hours and installed Arch an old laptop (it’s really not that hard, you just follow the directions on the wiki!), then nobody got the joke, so now I have this Arch laptop to play around with and type sudo pacman -Syu in occasionally.

MargotRobbie,

Of course I am, why would esteemed Academy Award nominated character actress Margot Elise Robbie ever lie to you over the Internet?

MargotRobbie,

Here is a notification for you:

Keep on being awesome!

MargotRobbie,

I think you have me confused with someone else.

Also, you shouldn’t bother, I’m married.

MargotRobbie,

It’s always the one you least suspect, like disguising yourself as an impersonation of yourself. https://media0.giphy.com/media/xE711OdbdKQ80/giphy.webp

MargotRobbie,

Elon Musk’s entire career since his PayPal days has been throwing one horrifyingly bad idea after another to his employees for them to figure out a way to bring into reality, then take credit for all of his employees’ work once they somehow realize these idea in order to shamelessly market himself as a tech genius, a “real life Tony Stark”, to make his employees realize even more bad ideas. Until his management of Twitter exposed him.

Can’t wait to see what kind of trainwreck a dating app designed by a misogynistic thrice-divorced deadbeat manchild would look like.

MargotRobbie,

(Watch my movies too, please😊)

MargotRobbie,

I think Facebook dating works better because you get a much more complete, natural profile of a person over a long period of time compared to Tinder and friends. Twitter… is not that.

MargotRobbie,

Academy Award nominated character actress Margot Robbie can use any operating system at home as she please!

Elon Musk gives X employees one year to replace your bank - ‘You won’t need a bank account... it would blow my mind if we don’t have that rolled out by the end of next year.’ (www.theverge.com)

“If it involves money. It’ll be on our platform. Money or securities or whatever. So, it’s not just like send $20 to my friend. I’m talking about, like, you won’t need a bank account.”...

MargotRobbie,

It’s a pretty bad idea to fire the majority of your employees if you want them to basically recreate Stripe (not just PayPal/Venmo) and somehow mush it into Twitter.

Also, that market is saturated, most banks and credit unions in the US already supports Zelle, and Venmo, CashApp, and PayPal are very estabished tech financial players in this space.

Again, if there ever was a possibility of an American WeChat equivalent to be built, the only one who ever had a chance to build it was Zuckerberg more than a decade ago, during the very short time period when the general population was adopting Facebook, but the old Facebook users have not started migrating off it. Trying to build WeChat in the US in 2023 is foolish at best.
