LallyLuckFarm,

Working through the writing process currently on some nonfiction. Making a roadmap for the topics and text was deceptively “easy” and I’ve realized it’s because I will hem and haw over the order incessantly until it is out of my hands. Gathering and reading through primary sources fires up the ol’ imposter syndrome occasionally. That’s one of the biggest challenges, personally, and I’m not always great at shaking the feeling of “why write this” even if I do make it back to it eventually.

Luckily some of our friends have skills or connections they’ve offered when the time comes, like a retired copy editor and someone who works for a small publisher. One of our newer friends revealed that they’ve got a master’s related to the project and are figuratively dying for someone with whom to “talk shop”, which is exciting and daunting all at the same time.

LallyLuckFarm,

It’s mostly about garden designs, but our friend’s relevant masters is in urban planning. And thank you, it’s challenging but so far pretty rewarding.

LallyLuckFarm,

I’m not even lying when I say that if I had a low wattage intercom system preexisting I’d drag new wire everywhere.

LallyLuckFarm,

Yes, definitely that. But I also dream of being able to press a button and say our little “all ducks, go to bed” and have all those truants down in the big pond know what they’re supposed to do 😂

LallyLuckFarm,

Ducks would really rather party outside all night, but we use “all ducks go to bed” every time we bring food or treats or water changes to the coop. It took some time but now when we say it they come in to see what the deal is and we can lock up behind them.

LallyLuckFarm,

I’m wishing your friend a speedy recovery, neighbor.

LallyLuckFarm,

I feel that - “guys” is a familiar enough habit that it still takes conscious effort sometimes to use “folks”. “Pal” in my experience comes across a lot like “champ” and doesn’t help the conversation.

My grandmother used to scold me that I was to call women “miss” unless corrected, along with other proper manners from decades before me. The idea that it’s important to respect people and address them in the way that helps them to be comfortable is what the real takeaway is, but it’s tough to shake those habits sometimes.

LallyLuckFarm,

I don’t care to devote mental effort to understanding why a company would intentionally remove revenue streams (particularly after years of withholding them from 3PA users) right before an IPO and right after the CEO has publicly stated that the company is not profitable. I’d say GLHF but with enough sarcasm to curdle milk.

How are you able to cook while working full time through the week? Do you have some kind of strategy? How do you plan your food?

We want to break out of this cycle of ordering delivery but at the same time, cooking everyday has been a challenge. We also have been trying to develop some sort of routine where we meal prep on the weekends but we live in an apartment with a really small kitchen so cooking and storing food for 5 days doesn’t seem doable....

LallyLuckFarm,

We’ve got a tiny kitchen and a ¾ fridge - it can fit a pizza box if nothing’s in the door. We’ll do things like casseroles, or make enough pasta to fill a casserole dish just small enough to fit in the fridge for leftovers after meal 1. Salads can stretch them further and make each one different enough, and meals of something else in between switches it up quite nicely. A few minutes with some sealable bags and some dressings/condiments around can make marinades easy to make and to store in the freezer. Sunday is our usual meal prep day to prep some containerized lunch for the week while the other gets a dinner made to make leftovers ready to cook.

Everyone around us raises chickens so eggs are easy to come by. There’s usually a quiche or two in the freezer in case we need a quickish meal and are both feeling too lazy for anything else.

LallyLuckFarm,

I sing almost all day, still occasionally find time to noodle on guitar, and garden all the time. In the winter I’ll do wood burning art projects that usually get donated to charities for raffles.

LallyLuckFarm,

We like to donate plants to the local library and food bank plant drives each spring, for local ones. The artwork is usually donated to Games Done Quick to benefit Malala Fund, Médecins Sans Frontières, Prevent Cancer Foundation, and others.

LallyLuckFarm,

I’ve been pretty impressed by what I’ve seen around here <3

LallyLuckFarm,

Just to be clear, and to make sure I’m not taking more credit than is deserved, we donate the art to GDQ to benefit the various charities they work with (like MSF, PCF, and MF). We’re very much hobbyists but love that our projects can do good in the world.

LallyLuckFarm,

Precisely. And thanks, it does feel really rewarding

LallyLuckFarm,

Last February. SAD was hitting real hard, way worse than recent years, so the wife sent me off to San Diego to see my best friend. Must have been the vacation that was supposed to happen, because his roommate was a tattoo artist who had an opening that week and had been looking to do a botanical piece for someone. So now I carry around my favorite plant in all its summer glory everywhere I go.

Can someone help me with the home-buying process?

So my lease for my apartment is up toward the end of this year, and now that I can work remote, I’m thinking of moving somewhere less expensive and finally buying a home. Can anyone with experience give me advice on the process or resources I can use? Not only am I a total noob, but I don’t talk to my family and my friends...

LallyLuckFarm,

If you’re U.S. based, check out your state’s HUD (Housing and Urban Development) site, they’re likely to have guides and resources for first time home buyers as well as any state programs that are there to assist that process. If you’re looking to move states, check the target state’s information out as well as there are probably differences in how their programs are administered.

We also spoke to an advisor at our credit union when we were looking to buy our home. Your financial institution likely has someone in this kind of role as well, but the level of quality can vary widely from person to person as well as between institutions and fiduciary advice isn’t guaranteed.

LallyLuckFarm,

Okay, so hear me out: diced apple in your potato salad. My preferred variety is Macoun, with one apple per six potatoes or so, diced roughly half the size of the potato chunks. It brings a nice brightness and a little crunch that's distinct from recipes that use celery. Spices usually used include paprika, chili powder, finely ground black pepper, and light salt.

LallyLuckFarm,

Congratulations! It's been some time since being at my heaviest, but the memories of shedding the weight and feeling good about new healthier habits is still fresh. I hope you celebrated the milestone with something that will help keep up that good work you're doing

LallyLuckFarm,

When I lost the first twenty it was a new cookbook, and at thirty lost it was some new pants and shirts for the rotation. That quickly became additional better fitting clothes since I was still dropping weight.

LallyLuckFarm,

Ducklings. She wouldn’t let me start clearing the broken eggs yet, and there are a few more that might still be viable, but there are about fifteen in that cuddle puddle. https://beehaw.org/pictrs/image/d8cbc9a4-129e-46fc-973c-b3bd5948b99d.jpeg
