The sad part is that this sets the standard (again) that companies can market the hell out of an unfinished game, release it buggy as hell, and still make an amazing profit. This doesn’t bode well for the future.
As others have said, just buy a ready made solution. There’s several options without a monthly fee and no smartphone app. Hell even at RadioShack 20 years ago there was an option that tied into your home phone system.
Try googling “emergency dialer” to find good examples.
I think it’s somewhat charming tbh. Everyone gets a tiny, miniscule chance of never having to work again. I rarely buy a ticket, but when I do I spend all week imagining all the fun things I’d do with the money.
As the other poster said, though, it’s sad when folks get addicted to it.
I found this old project from 2018 that redesigned Reddit into a frontend similar to Outlook. Would be fun to see this on Lemmy especially since we have a lot of frontends.
Personally I just befriended the cyber security girl who monitors traffic. Told her the other day that I forgot my earbuds and she unblocked YouTube so I could use my work headset for lofi hip-hop beats to study/relax to. She made sure Reddit was unblocked for me too. I figure if I bake her some cookies or fresh bread she might let me install hearthstone next.
I feel your pain OP. I was diagnosed with GAD in 2008 and it took until this year to find meds that worked for me. Vybrid and high dose buspar worked with no side effects except increased libido
I haven’t tried it myself but I hear a lot of people have luck with ketamine treatments.
I applied to over 100 remote positions before finally throwing in the towel and taking a hybrid position. There’s a finite amount of remote employers and they are unbelievably picky as a result.
First time home buyers in the US don’t need any cash for a down payment or closing costs. You can roll it all into the mortgage. This is how the majority of first time homebuyers get started. You just need a good credit score and enough income to qualify for the mortgage - which is impossible in some cities and easy on a McDonalds wage in others.
Plenty of cheaper options. The Kishi is great for smaller phones and X2 is almost as nice and even cheaper. They’re perfect for emulators but suck for shooters.
Voting to authorize a strike happens with nearly every union contract negotiation. It just means “If we cannot reach an agreement by x date, we have the option to strike.”.
It is very likely that the union will reach a deal before then.
With the simultaneous rollout of restrictions on account sharing and price increases/addition of advertising, I’m cutting back severely on streaming services....
Do you have a guide for this? I have Plex with Plex Pass but I haven’t been able to figure out how to get media beyond manually RDPing to my server and downloading a torrent from a private tracker.
AKG Q701 headphones. I have to resolder them every year or two, but they’re infinitely repairable. I’ve tried many headphones over the years but nothing comes close to the quality.
DasKeyboard 4 Pro keyboard. I’ve typed on it so hard for so long that the key caps have started crumbling. Replaced all of the key caps for a few bucks and it’s good as new.
PlanetBox lunchbox. It’s like a metal lunch tray with a lid. Fully metal, nearly indestructible, rust proof.
A carabineer clip I got at Walmart in '06 for $1. I’ve used it every day for 17 years and all of the paint has rubbed off. It just won’t die.
I can see how a quadrapoligic or someone with ALS would be excited for this trial. I hope it goes well. It could give someone that is trapped in their body a new way to communicate with their loved ones.
Trans is just a handy label used to describe folks who have similar experiences. None of those experiences are identical, and none of them are any less valid for their differences.
The most important thing to focus on is figuring out what makes you happy and pursue it relentlessly. If that journey of happiness happens to be similar to what other people call trans, and you yourself are comfortable with that label, congrats - you’re trans! If not, you’ll still be happier than you are now.
There’s no right or wrong way to do this thing. There’s no rules for happiness.
Hello, Canadians of Lemmy! Down in the USA there is a lot of conflicting information regarding the efficacy of y’alls healthcare systems. Without revealing my personal bias, I was hoping for some anecdotes or summaries from those whom actually live there.
For personal use? Just rely on Windows Defender and common sense to avoid getting viruses. If you already have (or suspect) a virus, there’s many guides out there for virus removal and most parts will apply to external hard drives.
I can attest that it works great in this scenario. I managed to play through several Final Fantasy games, a handful of indie games, and I’m deep into BG3 - all while on the couch or in bed with my other half. Or on the toilet.
Before the Steam deck I hadn’t beaten a single game in years.
