Your first link:

42 million user IDs and phone numbers for a third-party version of Telegram were exposed online without a password. The accounts belong to users in Iran, where the official Telegram app is blocked.

How is that a state exploit of Telegram? It’s not even about Telegram. It’s a third party app.

Looks like a video game.

From how it looks I assume the “boost” is an AI filter?

Smearing/Smudging was obvious when you looked for it, as well as artifacts on edges on movement.

Do you see more than with your eyes? I doubt it. Otherwise it could’ve been interesting as a live viewing aid.

Seems like it’s application would be very niche and situational. And only if you’re willing to accept visual artifacts (rather than having a “truthful”/quality as possible video.

Well that’s not very confidence-inducing…

Who's winning the war in Ukraine?

The media won’t give me great answers to this question and I think this I trust this community more, thus I want to know from you. Also, I have heard reports that Russia was winning the war, if that’s true, did the west miscalculate the situation by allowing diplomacy to take a backseat and allowing Ukraine to a large...

No it’s not. The west has nothing to gain from it dragging on. Nobody wants it to drag on.

Kissaki, (edited )
@Kissaki@feddit.de avatar

They would gain more by cooperation or ignoring.

It’s just that you can’t do that when the other party is actively destructive.

Doesn’t make it a gain in my eyes. Labeling it a gain at least requires a contextualized qualification. So saying the EU is interested in prolonging the conflict is very disingenuous.

EU would have far more to gain ffrom Russia leaving Ukraine. Saying the EU wants to prolong the conflict for gains is disingenuous, at least misleading or ambiguous.

For me this platform is a source of information and different perspectives as well as a platform for discussion and interaction.

An outside observer is not in my situation. If they deem it awful without considering my situation they’re at least not sympathetic and open minded.

dosdeck.com

As per their description supports Chrome, Edge, Safari.

It didn’t work in Firefox first, but not it seems to load the page fine. I guess it was a temporary issue.

With full controller support and a carefully curated game collection, enjoy timeless classics and hidden gems, readily available for instant play in your web browser on devices you already own.

DOS_deck runs seamlessly on Steam Deck, Mac, and Windows using Chrome, Edge or Safari. Whether you prefer playing on a TV or a laptop screen, using a gamepad or mouse and keyboard, DOS_deck adapts to your gaming style.

DOS_deck is built upon the foundation of JS-DOS, which, in turn, relies on DOSBox.

DOS_deck only offers legally distributable games. Each and every game is checked and verified to be either: Shareware, Freeware, Demo, Liberated

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and Dirty Bomb.

Great multi-player class- and objective-focused team shooters with great movement, respawn wave timer and reviving and healing. ET was very popular and has always been free. (etlegacy.com) Dirty Bomb is free to play and found only moderate success, had IMO bad monetization attempts, and was ultimately put into passive mode not being developed or maintained further, with monetization removed.

W:ET as a moddable quake game had a vibrant modding, server hosting, esport, and community scene.

What does that mean for modularity and support?

Microkernel only refers to the core, right? Is the idea that it can make inbound guarantees on drivers and firmware? Does it not still depend on the extensions being secure even if your micro kernel is?

Windows uses the region chosen by the customer during device setup to identify if the PC is in the EEA. Once chosen in device setup, the region used for DMA compliance can only be changed by resetting the PC.

Uuh. I hope I have that set to my actual location despite using en-US as display language.

Thinking about it, I’m pretty sure it should be correct.

I hate when apps use your format settings instead of display language to decide the language they display. Having to reset the Windows installation would be a much bigger hassle though.

Chrome & Firefox are a false duopoly. Do we need another option? Should there be a public option? Should it come from Italy?

Mozilla is ~83% funded by Google. That’s right- the maker of the dominant Chrome browser is mostly behind its own noteworthy “competitor”. When Google holds that much influence over Mozilla, I call it a false duopoly because consumers are duped into thinking the two are strongly competing with each other. In Mozilla’s...

I’m not aware. Can you list a few?

Receiving funding doesn’t necessarily mean serving. Google is interested in funding to keep it’s position. Mozilla still provides alternatives and regularly criticizes Google.

6 months is where you start to have good insights into and knowledge of areas of a decently complex project. It takes time.

There’s no “normal”. Processes, projects, and people vary greatly between companies.

Sounds like stuff in your processes and communication could be improved, by a lot for you.

This may be better communicated and discussed in person than by email. You can get their perspective, and offer yours, and what you think would improve processes, team synergy and collaboration.

You could use the website in a webbrowser. Then you don’t have to be concerned about app and app provider.

It’s what I’m using. On mobile too.

Kissaki,

Any working what?

I’m using the website of my instance. Lemmy instances typically have their own website you can use - which is exactly or slightly modified versions of the interface of the Lemmy project.

If you trust your instance with your account and its associated data surely you trust it’s website.

Open the actual post and you will see various and numerous answers, including mine.

Dunno why you @ me on my comment when I specifically talked about not using an app but the website.

Younger users of Lemmy: Did you ever love a game that you just really sucked at?

So I was watching a few youtubes and remembered how the vast majority (of like the ten) nes games me and my sister had were hard as all hell. I loved to play Little Nemo and Street Fighter 2010 but I am pretty sure I never made it past the third level of either. Let alone infamously hard games like The Lion King....

What Lemmy communities would you like to share that we may not know about?

I’m noticing an influx of Reddit users today, maybe revolving around their weird bug they had today. I know this question pops up semi regularly, but for those just getting their foot in the door maybe we can help show them what else is out here on the Fediverse to help them get started....

Yes; I just found it important context/properties of them

Some may be interested in growing them, others not

This comment could have been formulated in a non-aggressive tone, as a question or opinion, or reasoned criticism. Instead they chose a passive aggressive tone.

Really ironic and sad in the context of this topic, and right below the quotes like

people have become faster to attack, and slower to recognize each other’s shared humanity.

Depending on how you define national security they aren’t.

You can default to privacy while allowing court ordered exceptions. That seems reasonable and effective, and seemingly has worked fine for along time.

Kissaki,
@Kissaki@feddit.de avatar

Each home has communities. No matter where your home is, you can access and participate in all communities - from your home and others.

You choose a home to your liking, for example from which country, or moderation policy, or topic themes. You make your account on that home, and then access and join the communities you want to.

Kissaki,

They said hold the platform accountable, they didn’t mention holding the poster accountable.

without violating reasonable expectations of privacy

I don’t see what needs to or is implied to change regarding privacy merely from increased accountability - and especially not the platforms as a whole.

That’s really not feasible for individuals on a big public platform.

Moderation determines the environment.

Kissaki,
@Kissaki@feddit.de avatar

Not every cancelation is revoking right to live or other rights. And certainly not generally or commonly.

Cancelation is usually about revoking elevated positions or public platform. That’s very far from how you lay it out.

Kissaki,
@Kissaki@feddit.de avatar

I block people. I do in Overwatch, I did in Smite, I did in Reddit, I do in Lemmy. It has no end.

Individual blocking works in small communities, but not on big public platforms. For every block you do you can expect another 100 new people on the next interaction.

How do you consider it feasible? Do you think you’ll eventually reach a point where you have everyone blocked you’d want to? Or is it about teaching a level where you blocked the regulars and will continue to need blocking for new people?
