Kingofthezyx,

Guess what, that plate is not microwave safe.

Kingofthezyx,

Yeah, that’s normal - ceramic and glass will get hot from the food or steam, just if the plate itself gets hot, it’s absorbing microwaves itself.

I know because I used to have a mug that would get hot when microwaved, and one day it exploded.

Kingofthezyx,

Mormon God: Damn, they got me.

Kingofthezyx,

Thanks, because I bought it after it got good and I’ve put 1000+ hours into it.

Kingofthezyx,

I don’t think it’s an overreaction - you have a line, and when it was crossed you switched.

Kingofthezyx,

It’s ironic, at times like this you’d pray

But a bomb blew the mosque up yesterday

Kingofthezyx,

What would stop owners from shifting the burden to the renters?

As of right now this is already how property taxes are handled by most landlords: mortgage + tax + est. cost to fix incidentals + time managing paperwork = rent (in a fair situation - though most will tack on as much extra for “profit” as they can)

So if you have a house worth 600k (12k tax), the mortgage is $3500/mo, they would just charge $4500+ a month to cover their costs.

I think the only way is to add extremely progressive property tax to multiple ownerships, and a name always has to be attached as “owner”. So your first house and second might have limited property taxes, but your third would be double, fourth would be quadruple, fifth would be 8x etc.

26-year-old tech CEO found dead in Baltimore with signs of blunt-force trauma (www.cnn.com)

The Baltimore Police Department has announced an arrest warrant for a suspect wanted for the murder of Pava LaPere, the 26-year-old CEO of startup EcoMap Technologies, who was found dead in a downtown Baltimore apartment Monday with signs of blunt-force trauma to her head....

Kingofthezyx,

It was a company of 30 people, not some massive corporation. I think it’s important to differentiate between small companies and huge, faceless conglomerates.

Kingofthezyx,

Beelink Mini S12 Pro Mini PC, 12th Gen Intel-N100 (4C/4T, Up to 3.4GHz), 16GB RAM DDR4 500GB PCle SSD, Mini Desktop Computer 4K@60Hz, Dual Display, WiFi6, BT5.2, USB3.2, LAN, Low Power a.co/d/dxxV7yK

I got something similar - it takes a little bit of elbow grease to get Linux running well on it due to the very new chipset (just the wifi/BT drivers though so if you only plan to hardwire, no issues)

Really ridiculously low power draw too.

Kingofthezyx,

For the insane price, I was shocked at how good it is!

Kingofthezyx,

I am just a novice by comparison to many around here - aside from the built in 500GB I just have a single 5TB Seagate drive plugged in to USB. It holds all my Plex content and my photo backups. Haven’t had any issues with USB disconnects so far!

Kingofthezyx,

God I wish I lived in a country that wasn’t so filled with idiots.

Sounds like you agree with the adults, then. That’s exactly the sentiment that’s causing this issue - no matter which side you fall on, there are conservatives who believe the education is too “woke”, and liberals that believe the education is too watered down by moneyed and religious interests. Believing the country is filled with idiots is precisely why adults in general express dissatisfaction with education.

Kingofthezyx,

Dawg I am literally left as fuck - I wasn’t saying it was both sides at all. I’m saying each side individually has their own reasons for answering the question the way they did. Do you think conservatives make up more than 60% of the population?

It would be like asking “Do you think the government provides the right amount of welfare?”

Most people would say “no” because you’d have Republicans saying Gov provides too much welfare, and Democrats saying Gov doesn’t provide enough welfare.

Dropping a blanket statement like “This country is filled with idiots” is SIGNIFICANTLY more “both sides” than my point was.

Kingofthezyx,

Nah, the beef lobbies will just have the government increase subsidies. Obviously corporate profits are more important than the future of the human race.

Kingofthezyx,

“Songs of a Distant Earth” by Arthur C. Clarke

Kingofthezyx,

True, it’s just what came to mind. And it’s a really good book.

Kingofthezyx,

Kingofthezyx,

Made me really sad when I learned Sweet Earth is Nestlé because they have a really good Seitan (wheat gluten) Bacon that is super tasty and difficult to replicate. But I like not supporting scum more than I like vegan bacon substitutes so 🤷

Kingofthezyx,

To me they are the iPhone of cars. In a vacuum they are not bad looking, but every single one looks exactly the same. Just basic.

Kingofthezyx,

It looks like they’re combining two options into one, like instead of having you choose “optional keyboard Y/N” and then “keyboard language”, you just choose them both at once, like “optional keyboard and if so, what language?”

Kingofthezyx,

It’s not exactly the same, but current and last gen Samsung tablets can run Krita. I’ve never used it on desktop though so I don’t know if the Android version is worse in some way but I’ve had a great time with it on my Tab S8 Ultra

Kingofthezyx,

It never makes these lists unless I add it - The Fountain with Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz. Something about it just resonates with my soul.

Kingofthezyx,

A big part of it is the soundtrack I think. Clint Mansell always kills it, but Death is the Road to Awe is something else entirely.

Kingofthezyx,

oh, cannabis makes some people think slower? you sure that wasn’t brain damage from a deadly virus?

Same thing with lung damage. Like oh, is that something you care about now?

Kingofthezyx,

Thank you being basically the only person in the thread who actually read the article.

The part where they said “aspartame is probably bad” wasn’t the corrupt part. The corrupt part was when they put an addendum saying “a little bit of cancer is okay as a treat”

Kingofthezyx,

That’s not what this is saying. This is saying the studies saying it IS harmful were real, and the part saying “it’s probably safe in small amounts” was industry-influenced.

Kingofthezyx,

I don’t use TikTok, and there are a ton of reasons to be concerned about sending massive amounts of data to corporations, especially when they’re state associated, but a very large amount of apps scan your clipboard.

Have you ever had an app text you a one time use code, and automatically input it? That app scans your clipboard. Facebook, Instagram, X, all scan your clipboard.

I see this brought up a lot and it just seems like the wrong argument against TikTok.

Kingofthezyx,

BlueSky is completely separate from Twitter. And as for TikTok, a social media scientist’s concerns aren’t really for their own personal privacy or the integrity of the web, but for reaching the largest audience they can.

Love it or hate it, TikTok is one of the largest audiences out there, period.
