FlexibleToast,

You aren’t using the Steam flatpak?

FlexibleToast,

400% is an old number, and it was pretty outrageous even back then.

FlexibleToast,

For me, Plex has a better ecosystem of apps and a far better sync or “downloads” as they call it now. The sync is a killer feature for someone who travels a lot.

FlexibleToast,

Only private companies can get away with thinking like that. Companies that can put the stakeholder’s interest ahead of the shareholder.

FlexibleToast,

Okay… But Musk is from South Africa, which very much did have apartheid.

FlexibleToast,

I agree. There is plenty to dislike about him that where he is from doesn’t really have to be part of it.

FlexibleToast,

Seriously, just ignore the “requirements” and if the job description fits you, apply anyway.

FlexibleToast,

That depends on how far off the job description is and if that’s the direction you want to go.

FlexibleToast,

Yeah we have. We even had a phone that had an e-paper display on one side for low power usage. Almost all the folding phones have a screen that is on the back when unfolded.

FlexibleToast,

Beans and rice go a long way to help the food budget.

FlexibleToast,

You mean like he already is? He specifically ordered a special counsel using the guy that Trump picked to investigate Hunter. Stop with the both sides stuff, it isn’t even close to true.

FlexibleToast,

Except two things… The F35 is not a bomber and they do put all kinds of trackers on it so that it doesn’t end up being the wrong people that find it first. It was definitely at least broadcasting its ADSB in FAA controlled airspace on a training mission. It wasn’t flying over Afghanistan or something.

FlexibleToast,

I’m certain that’s what will define 6th generation fighters. NGAD is supposed to be pilot optional.

FlexibleToast,

About 40% of all of those blue states are doing the same. It’s only more evident in Wisconsin because of our gerrymandering and re-electing Russian Ron.

FlexibleToast,

This is such a bad take. Imagine being mad that the user has a choice for a low/no cost ad supported version and a paid version. There are other benefits too, like being able to trial the software for as long as you want before buying in.

FlexibleToast,

Yeah, developers shouldn’t make money unless granted a benevolent donation.

FlexibleToast,

Do you think that non binary people don’t exist in other places?

FlexibleToast,

I think most have changed to calling themselves pansexual.

Whole Foods argues it can ban BLM masks because the Supreme Court let a Christian business owner refuse same-sex couples (fortune.com)

Amazon.com’s Whole Foods Market doesn’t want to be forced to let workers wear “Black Lives Matter” masks and is pointing to the recent US Supreme Court ruling permitting a business owner to refuse services to same-sex couples to get federal regulators to back off....

FlexibleToast, (edited )

You can get mad at Amazon, but really it’s the Supreme Court you should be mad at. Amazon is going to take advantage of whatever it thinks will make them more money. The government is the thing that is supposed to keep them in check.

Edit: A lot of people seem to be reading something different from what I wrote. I didn’t say you shouldn’t be mad at Amazon, or that Amazon isn’t at fault for their own actions. What I did say is that you should expect this type of behavior from a business and should expect our government to do a better job at keeping this behavior in check.

FlexibleToast,

I didn’t say it was fine… I said it’s to be expected and the reason they need guard rails.

FlexibleToast,

I don’t disagree with anything you said. You’re right on every account. We’re still seeing it in action as Feinstein refuses to step down and backing up the appointment of judges. RBG and Feinstein both destroyed their legacies by hanging on to power for far too long. It’s insane that Mitt Romney, of all people, is the one I agree with. He’s not going to run and encouraged other old people to stop running and let the next generation have a chance.

FlexibleToast,

It’s kind of wild that Lemmy seems to be even more left and hive minded than Reddit was. In the earlier days, it seemed like it wasn’t going to be that way.

FlexibleToast,

I joined Reddit in 2011, it was great. I joined Lemmy after the API price changes meant I couldn’t use my favorite app anymore. Lemmy at that time was a lot like early Reddit. It changed at break neck speed. I guess that’s just the times we’re in now. Everyone in their tribes and if you’re not part of their narrowly defined tribe, you’re the enemy.

FlexibleToast,

What are you even talking about? There are entire servers dedicated to NSFW.

FlexibleToast,

lemmynsfw.com is the biggest one.

FlexibleToast,

Even before covid the soda fountain was the thing they could get. I remember that being a big target back when I worked fast food 20 years ago.

FlexibleToast,

I’m reading this comment as I’m sitting inside a fast food place on my lunch break. Some of us like to spend their lunch away from their work or school.

FlexibleToast,

Weight is lost in the kitchen. You go to the gym to improve your fitness.

FlexibleToast,

I’m curious how many animals are killed to make leather. I would think that the animal is killed for food and the byproduct is leather. If we’re still raising feed cattle and just wasting the leather, wouldn’t that be worse for the environment?

FlexibleToast,

You’re tight, but I couldn’t think of a better term for it. I suspect leather is made with material that is generated not for leather making but as a consequence of the meat industry. And since when is “using the whole animal” a bad thing? Unless I’m wrong and there are animals killed specifically for their leather, that would be pretty fucked up.

FlexibleToast,

Like almost everything, this announcement sounds more like green washing.

For your wood example, wood is actually a great green resource. It’s not like they’re cutting down the old growth trees anymore. They selectively cut and they have tree farms. Trees are also not as good of a carbon sync as people tend to think they are. Yes, they absorb carbon over their lifetime, but when they die, they rot and release it back into the atmosphere. The carbon we’re worried about is the stuff that came out of the ground that was there for millions of years, which is far longer than a tree lifespan.

FlexibleToast,

I have obsidian installed, but I haven’t really looked into how to use it. It has been on my list of things I should probably learn for a long time now

FlexibleToast,

I was using MarkText and a fairly structured set of directories. I switched to Bookstack which allows me to do essentially the same thing but with a web interface and the ability to share with even using RBAC. It doesn’t do the cool linking stuff though.

FlexibleToast,

They don’t make or contribute to any types of technology.

That part isn’t completely true. When they created the bootstrap framework it changed how many people built websites. They can and have contributed to technology. However, your point is valid that news about Twitter is business news.

Microsoft cuts ties with the Surface Duo after just 2 Android version updates (www.windowscentral.com)

Microsoft is done supporting the original Surface Duo, three years after it first launched on September 10. The company has stated from the very start that the Surface Duo would receive just three years of OS updates, meaning today is the last day that Microsoft has to stay true to its word....

FlexibleToast,

The “real version”? There is no “real version” of Android. I wouldn’t pick Microsoft specifically because they don’t have a track record of supporting their phones.

FlexibleToast,

And what phone runs that source without manufacturer tweaks?

FlexibleToast,

I think I made the point pretty clear… There really isn’t a phone with the “real android” and it’s best to check the company’s track record of updates. It seems like you just reworded my point while missing that I just stated the same thing.

FlexibleToast,

He’s kind of the main recurring antagonist for TNG and even shows up in Voyager. His character does get better written as the show goes on.

FlexibleToast,

The first couple seasons were still under Gene Roddenberry’s control. He maintained that there should not be any conflict between the crew members. That made the first couple seasons a little strange.

FlexibleToast,

He had his eccentricities. It’s hard to make a compelling show about human stories when the main cast aren’t allowed to have interpersonal conflicts. But his vision of the utopian future would be that society wouldn’t have in-fighting anymore.

FlexibleToast,

Yeah, exactly. Fight the good fight, but know your enemy. Your enemy is not your doctor.

FlexibleToast,

That depends on the doctor. Not all are paid the same. Plastic surgeons get paid huge dollars for a lot of frivolous work. I’m with you there. But a brain surgeon or a heart surgeon… They deserve the big bucks. I don’t care at all that they can afford a German car and a small general aviation plane. I care more about the working class not being able to afford a decent new car and the billionaire that has to decide which super car to drive that day.

FlexibleToast,

You can get a Cessna 172 or even some nice Mooneys for around $50k. Unlike cars, even really old ones are kept in good running order because parts time out and have to be regularly maintained. Even if you want to buy a newer plane, a lot of people in GA use fractional ownership. That $200k newish Cirrus SR22 is fairly likely owned by 4 people splitting the bill. GA isn’t cheap by any measure, but it also isn’t exclusively for the wealthy. Upper middle class can get into it without too much issue. The people we should be raising everyone to, not tearing down.

FlexibleToast,

GA is not just private jets.

FlexibleToast,

I’ve done active shooter drills in the military. The first thing you do is cover the window in the door, which is often by the front of the room where the phone is. The beauty of a landline is that it doesn’t move. You can dial out to 911 and they know exactly what building you’re in without you having to even tell them. The teacher doesn’t need to hang out at the front of the room.

FlexibleToast,

What is different? Cover the windows to hide the number of people, hide, and barricade. You’re also very conveniently ignoring the rest of the comment that addressed your concern. Care to try again?

FlexibleToast,

I’m not a boomer. And I’m in no way advocating the use of a Faraday cage. Maybe read what is actually written instead of what you think was written. Hell I work in tech trying to get people up with the times…
