FlexibleToast,

Is this open source or vetted in any way? I love the idea, but I don’t want to just install some apk from a random site.

FlexibleToast,

I’ve found that this is the problem. The good quality stuff is great and yes it will last multiple generations. However the styling will be long out of date before even the end of the first generation. My parents had old extremely well made furniture that they spent a lot of money in when they first got married. 30 years later the styling was out of date, my mom wanted a change, and they practically couldn’t even give the furniture away because nobody wanted the old style. So now my dad has a guest room in the basement using that furniture.

FlexibleToast,

If anything 34 would be too young to have been a fan when Limp Bizket was popular.

FlexibleToast,

That sounds about right. I’m 37 and liked Limp Bizket back then.

FlexibleToast,

The pain is kind of the point. More specifically the body’s response to pain is the point. Eating spicy food, especially mild foods when starting, is a low level pain but it triggers the body’s pain response. You get those nice dopamine and endorphins released. You end up associating the two and your journey to liking spicy food has begun.

FlexibleToast,

I think that’s why I tend to like carrot based hot sauces over vinegar. The carrot dulls the spiciness a bit and you get the flavor of the peppers more.

FlexibleToast,

As a white guy this is the hard part of ordering Thai or Indian. I want the spicy version, not the white guy spicy version. But, if I emphasize that, then they end up giving me beyond the spicy version to mess with me. So I just order the spicy version and sometimes it’s perfect while other times it’s too mild and disappointing.

FlexibleToast,

Hot sauces are the most popular sauces now in America. Yet the stereotype persists.

FlexibleToast,

It’s about the only racial discrimination I face, so in perspective it’s not a bad deal for me.

FlexibleToast,

The ad campaign by Oracle and SUSE is working. Red Hat made changes to the way it distributes source because they wanted other groups to use the community upstream and become part of the community instead of just copy and pasting Red Hat source. Now Oracle and SUSE are doing exactly what Red Hat was hoping the community would do while acting like they’re defying and battling Red Hat… In the end Red Hat’s goal was achieved. More community involvement with more special interest groups contributing to a better Enterprise Linux for everyone.

FlexibleToast,

It’s not just the one employee though. Gamer Nexus has been calling out LTT for inaccuracies too. The ethics of LMG seem dubious at best and the are lots of other options so why keep watching LTT?

FlexibleToast,

What is being mined that is so profitable that the miners commute with jet packs?

FlexibleToast,

After thinking about it a bit, I thought the same thing. It’s still a pretty nuts idea, but it could work.

FlexibleToast,

You would sometimes pick up a newspaper specifically for the ads. You might be looking for a job or a car and that was a good starting place.

FlexibleToast,

I guess if you don’t know what a rootkit is it could seem like one.

FlexibleToast,

Thanks, often that’s what I’m going for.

FlexibleToast,

That’s still not what a rootkit is. Lol

FlexibleToast,

On the usenet side of the house, I think the only big change was NZB Matrix going away.

FlexibleToast,

Both. It’s a semi secret club.

FlexibleToast,

Sure, but also you can’t settle for someone you don’t connect with.

FlexibleToast,

This looks like exactly what Red Hat wanted. Other distributions to use CentOS Stream and contribute to the open source community instead of just copying their work. Hardly a “pitchfork mob.”

FlexibleToast,

Not really because Red Hat doesn’t do HPC stuff unless I’m mistaken. Alma leaned into that by basing on CentOS Stream, being ABI compatible with RHEL, and creating an HPC SIG. The exact things Red Hat was encouraging people to do. The whole point was to get these companies to get involved in the community instead of copy pasting. Despite all the bitching and moaning, it seems to be working.

FlexibleToast,

They think having flag themed everything is patriotic while having never actually read the flag code to know that it isn’t.

FlexibleToast,

That’s not why the starfield is on the other side. The starfield always belongs at the front. If that flag was flying from a pole and being carried by the person or vehicle that’s where the starfield would be and why that’s how it is applied. The flag should be moving forward, not retreating.

FlexibleToast,

No, the American flag in all black is literally a flag of traitors. The south used it as a symbol that they would rather die than surrender during the Civil War. Now whether or not somebody is actually intending to have that message or just wants a “cool” subdued flag is the questionable part.

FlexibleToast,

I agree with you. I think that they think they’re being “cool” and patriotic while actually being completely ignorant to flag code and about the no quarter flag.

FlexibleToast,

It was pretty great going to high school when the interesting fashion trends were low rise jeans and thongs. I mean, the rest of high school was awful, but at least there were whale tails.

FlexibleToast,

She made a bunch of money on OnlyFans just for having an account there. Horny people do weird things.

FlexibleToast,

The other stuff they were selling didn’t sell well. My ex worked at one during that transition. They made most of their money from cell phone sales so it kind of made sense to pivot.

FlexibleToast,

You can’t forget Strange New Worlds.

FlexibleToast,

I’ve made butter chicken once before. It was delicious, but it was a pain. Getting the spices and the process was a lot to go through if you’re not making a large batch. All that to say, this is a good idea and I would have definitely bought it if I saw it at my farmers market.

Your thoughts on The Orville? (lemmy.world)

When I first started this show I found it to be a really awkward mix of comedy and seriousness. It had some jokes thrown it at the most inopportune times as some kind of comic relief from a really serious situation. Perhaps the first half of the first season was actually a bit rough or maybe the show just grew on me, but by...

FlexibleToast,

I would agree with you, until Star Trek Strange New Worlds. That show is fantastic.

FlexibleToast,

Lower Decks is fantastic, but it’s almost its own thing while still being a love letter to earlier Treks. It is obviously aimed at a different demographic while still being one of the best modern Treks. That crossover episode was almost all fan service, but there is nothing wrong with that every once and a while. It was a very fun episode. The end where the SNW cast was animated had me laughing, it was very well done.

FlexibleToast,

I was in the same boat as you until recently. I was burned so bad from Discovery and Picard I just couldn’t go through it again. I heard all the good things, but still I just couldn’t get around to it. I’m so glad I finally did. I know there is some recency bias but I think I would go so far as to say Captain Pike is my favorite Captain now…

FlexibleToast,

It’s so good I didn’t even consider that not being a possibility. Glad to hear it though.

FlexibleToast,

I bet it was common in the Trek community. I guess the positive side is you have two seasons to be able to binge when you finally get around to it.

FlexibleToast,

Here we are in 2023 and people still have to ask for venv and which Python versions. I don’t understand why these AI devs on these smaller scales seem to be container adverse.

FlexibleToast,

There are a ton of different themes out there. You can probably find one you like.

FlexibleToast,

A lot of handles are actual handles these days… Including this truck.

FlexibleToast,

Who still isn’t using a password manager?

FlexibleToast,

That’s even more reason to use a password manager. You’re far more likely to have unique passwords per site. If one gets compromised, others don’t.

FlexibleToast,

Yourself. I use Vaultwarden on a Raspberry Pi. Lots of people use something like KeePass and sync it with Dropbox or something similar. As far as someone else hosting it, Bitwarden seems like the go to (and is the project that Vaultwarden is based on).

FlexibleToast,

What, it was a bad idea to give control of how the Internet is rendered to an ad agency? Who could have seen this coming?

FlexibleToast,

This would be a pretty cool AirBnB. That price is outrageous though.

FlexibleToast,

PGP is already that answer. We just need a common trusted CA. It would be nice if the government did this and issued certs with your driver license or ID. We could replace our reliance on SSNs with actually good cryptography.

FlexibleToast,

trusting the government not to listen to every email and website you ever visit and then not use that data to lock up dissidents. == bad

I’m definitely not advocating for that. Just for “official business.” Chatting with your friends or something, use matrix, signal, telegram, gpg, whatever you want. Signing documents or sending documents to your bank? That’s when you need the government CA. Basically anytime you would normally use your ID to identify yourself.
