American_Jesus,

Most don’t support HD streaming due to lack of certification, the UI is mobile not AndroidTV, and many can include malware

tomsguide.com/…/thousands-of-android-tv-boxes-inf…

I have a box (X96 Max+), with a custom ROM, comes with only the essencial, but AndroidTV itself is not FOSS, the launcher and other services are proprietary, without it is just AOSP.

You can check the supported devices on the site

WhatsApp Moderators Can Read Your Messages - gizmodo.com/whatsapp-moderators-can-read-your-mes…

American_Jesus,

That means if they want to see your messages they do it anytime, not only when someone report it.

If a government want access to the messages they can access.

American_Jesus,

Unlike other messaging apps, they have access to encryption keys, when you change devices you only need to fill the phone number and all of your messages are available.

On other apps like Signal or matrix, you need to backup or export your keys to other devices, otherwise you can access previous messages.

It’s like you own an apartment and the doorman have keys to all apartments, if you lose the key the doorman can give you a copy, but also have access to your apartment when it pleases.

American_Jesus,

Same, used NextDNS and Pi-Hole then move to AdGuard Home til today.
Built-in (DoH, DoT,…) servers are useful and simple to setup with client identification.

American_Jesus,

If you live in the USA is still a thing (boosters and masks)

In the rest of the world (like me), is a thing from the past for some time

American_Jesus,

Need to check Zellij.
On desktop I use Kitty multiple windows on dual monitor with layouts, ditch tmux for kitty.

But i still use tmux on server with tmuxinator to create layouts, Zellij looks to be a good replacement

Windows pc calling home (even while asleep) (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

I have a network-wide pi hole and I noticed that it requested activity.windows.com, a url blocked by my pi hole, even while my pc is suspended. I pinged 10.0.0.217 and it is currently unreachable. So, somehow, windows pc’s turn on networking, phones home, and turns off even while suspended....

American_Jesus,

In trying it doing that on someone hybrid, not surface but a Lenovo, PopOS! seems to works mostly out-of-box.

American_Jesus,

My cat used to do that too, also belly rub.
Unfortunately died a few days ago.

American_Jesus,

I am, knowing that he’s not in pain. He had FeLV (like AIDS on cats) and developed a long tumor, vets couldn’t do much more than making confortable, there’s no cure for FeLV.

He had a happy life, unfortunately was a short one.

American_Jesus,

They are opensource, doesn’t mean they don’t include trackers

Ads & Analytics: Our favorites. Software being free and open source doesn’t mean the compiled app cannot have some extras. Usually, if there are ad or analytics modules, that’s also pointed out in the „AntiFeatures“ in the app description

American_Jesus,

With sed or awk, without a sample is hard to give a proper example.

<span style="color:#323232;">sed -i 's/old/new/g' *.json
</span>
American_Jesus,

Next release must release soon, this issue is reported (almost) every day

American_Jesus,

I don’t use it for a longtime, but if it works why change it. It good for realtime chat, you can use it on a potato and some. Matrix chats also have IRC bridges so all can be on same chat.

American_Jesus,

Hosted or client, there’s IRC clients for everything, even on a Commodore 64 (csdb.dk/release/?id=197138)

American_Jesus,

Start by choosing a network, try something like Libera Chat libera.chat

You have some suggestions for IRC clients on their page, you can even use one on the browser. Browse the channels available, join, chat

American_Jesus,

I started using XFCE because of GNOME 3, it wasn’t for me, and XFCE where more customizable, it suited my need. On GNOME each new version breaks extensions, or stick with the old one, just a headache.

American_Jesus,

I vote for this as new app icon

American_Jesus,

Don’t get why so many downvotes, it’s well known that (free) antivirus collect user data.

Remember, employees still need to be paid, and make profit.

Even now Microsoft offers Windows for free, complete with bloatware and trackers.

American_Jesus,

ClamAV is an OK antivirus, if you use it to scan annex files on a mail server or cloud storage.
Is now suitable for real time scan.

Virus detection is very poor, it let pass many virus
splunk.com/…/how-good-is-clamav-at-detecting-comm…

Keep in mind that ClamAV does not disinfect files. It only removes them from the system or moves them to a specified location. It also doesn’t watch for infections. It scans when you ask and otherwise remains dormant.

networkworld.com/…/using-clamav-to-detect-and-rem…

American_Jesus,

I didn’t call ClamAV bloatware or spyware, I was responding to the previous post.

American_Jesus,

While waiting for new releases, you can improve the app with translations or reporting bugs

translate.codeberg.org/projects/…/app/

Or if you know how to code, pull requests are always an option

American_Jesus,

It’s in the same place!

Open the drawer (left menu), and tap the icon on top left.

Then you can: change account, create account, logout.

American_Jesus,

They all in cards, it’s the theme that you’re using.
When a post is marked as read, changes post color to the same of app background.

You can change your (dark) theme for one that you like.

You can also install additional themes, i’ve created some but there are more.

Themes:

American_Jesus,

Just put the repo URL github.com/ReVanced/revanced-manager on “App source URL” and “Add”

American_Jesus,

ReVanced it’s the patcher, then you update the apps with ReVanced patches.

There’s an unofficial repository with pre-patched apps, that can be used if don’t want to patch the apps on each update.

American_Jesus,

Do you know anything about opensource?

“Infinity for Reddit” uses AGPLv3 License.

  • You can modify, distribute.
  • You must include copyright, include licence, disclose source…

tldrlegal.com/…/gnu-affero-general-public-license…

Didn’t stole anything, it continued a project, and the name is being discussed on other post.

That’s how opensource works, you don’t stole, you improve other peoples works and give them credit for their work.

Did you know that most of the apps for Lemmy are opensource and use other opensource projects?

Did you know that Google Chrome uses a browser engine that was created by KDE then improved by Apple, then Google forked it and change the name to Blink.

PS: Trump stole the code from Mastodon, remove the creator credits and call it their own.

American_Jesus,

I know, great dev. Unfortunately he doesn’t have most spare time to work on the app, always tried to fix bugs and respond to issues.

Infinity for Lemmy is a way to show appreciation to his work, and continue what he started.
