I’m hostile towards telemetry by default because of how much spyware there is in today’s technology. I’ll only allow it if it’s reasonable ( e.g. a GPS getting your location, system diagnostics for software devs ) and it’s consentual.
I plan on eventually boycotting English as much as I can. Both because of what global English represents, and to counteract the massive international pressure to do everything in English and its consequences.
Recently, i had to move from nixos to windows against my will simpy because of anti cheats. While i dont game that much, the few games i enjoy playing are all online with some kind of anti cheat. I used to dual boot but i was tired of having to wait for my slow hdd to load windows (i only have one ssd). I literally used linux...
Not sure why there are so many downvotes. Are there really that many people in here of all places who think gaming is just triple-A games from companies that don’t respect their players and nothing else?
I’m pushing half a century in an industry that is not kind to old guys. I try to fend it off but every now and then it hits me. I’m pretty sure this is not unique to my life experience, or it wouldn’t have a term :-)
The main reason for the Linux operating system not seeing widespread adoption is because of its multitude of distros. Ubuntu, Debian, Arch, Mint… there are just so many choices, just like how when someone asks how to join the Fediverse people will response with “which instance?”...
Windows is where it is because of Microsoft’s aggression. There’s no essence inside Windows that makes it widespread ex nihilo.
Linux isn’t as widespread as it could be because many people don’t realise it’s a viable alternative to Windows or Mac. It has nothing to do with how many distros there are. Also, newbies are usually recommended Ubuntu or Linux Mint, so it’s not even “so many choices” to begin with.
Also, you do realise you can interact with instances other than yours, right? I use lemm.ee btw.
It is difficult for me to ascertain when the person I am communicating is using a logical fallacy to trick me into believing him or doubting my judgement, even when I realise it hours after the argument....
It helps to remember that the mind is not a truth machine, but a survival machine.
I recommend learning some psychology. The more you know about how the mind works, the easier it is to understand and spot logical fallacies, both in yourself and others.
Edit: also, you should practice those critical thinking skills instead of just keeping them in theory. You could apply them to past situations, for example.
Instead of focusing too much on all of the things that are currently wrong, could you please help paint a picture of what a future utopian society could look like?...
It wouldn’t solve everything, but at least there wouldn’t be room for chronic reification, useless charismatic narcissists, Cartesian dualism, etc to become big issues like they are in our world.
My point isn’t that autistic people have a single, utopian personality, but that we’re generally less susceptible to certain social/psychological phenomena that tend to make societies shittier.
Do you believe in God?
What kind of Telemetry do you allow? (i.imgur.com)
I allow everything from FOSS that I like, you?
What are you boycotting right now and why? Are there any Boycotts you've ended?
This post is somewhat inspired by a recent post in this same community called “Is anyone else having trouble giving up Reddit due to content?”...
online anti cheats are the worst thing

I actually find this talking point so braindead that, to this day, I still have a hard time believing that people genuinely believe it. (lemmy.ml)
Please don't repeat the same mistake as Linux

How do I learn to detect logical fallacies in a conversation?
