I like big bats an´ I can not lie.

ApeNo1,

It looks like a modern art piece that draws a comparison between a toxic desk job, and the frog that will allow itself to boil to death if the heat is increased gradually enough.

ApeNo1,

Who would have thought that the intersection of Starting a fight, Petting a dog, and Consoling a child was Pauly Shore.

ApeNo1,

Who can talk the most lies (who can talk the most lies)

Pretend they are a Jew (pretend they are a Jew)

Cover up with sequins for a contest or two

The Republican can (the Republican can)

Oh, the Republican can (the Republican can)

The Republican can 'cause he mixes it with lies

And makes his world a falsehood (makes his world a falsehood)

The History of Microsoft Encarta (infosec.pub)

In 1985, shortly after the release of Windows 1.0, Bill Gates set Min Lee on a mission to find a partner for a digital encyclopedia product that would serve as a reference companion to Microsoft’s productivity applications. Lee then approached Britannica, the undisputed leader in the encyclopedia market, who’d recently...

Having spent so much of my youth using the familiar cream and dark brown 1970’s World Book Encyclopaedias, with the ever growing collection of Year Books, this was amazing. I was blown away watching videos of things like the JFK moon speech. This for many like me I imagine meant the end of flipping through physical encyclopaedias.

The World’s Oldest Scotch Whisky Is About To Go On Auction (www.forbes.com)

Late last year, a hidden trove of whisky was discovered in a cellar room deep within a 13th century Scottish castle. The liquid was subsequently tested and determined to have been distilled back in 1833, making it the oldest known scotch in existence. Now two dozen bottles of it are going under the hammer in a November auction.

That’s just Ron Weasley after his Jay Leno poly juice potion started losing effect.

The table design does appear to be based on the old Socket 7 or Socket 8 Pentium CPU sockets.

“It’s that damn Ruffed Lemur! He’s so hot right now!”

That is one fabulous outfit that little guy is sporting.

This guy having a real heart attack in a restaurant some time in the future.

“Oh no, just ignore Aidas. He is such a joker. Now would you like the lamb or the fish tonight?”

What I think has happened here is that the Principal did not look at this video with the lens of kids having fun but instead as something more adult. He is likely ashamed of his own feelings that he felt when he watched the video and is hiding behind religion and fake moral outrage. He redirected his own shame to this poor kid who has now missed out on a chance for a scholarship. He should not be in a position of authority in the education system.

ApeNo1,

Would be good to see tests against only images of real life scenarios or things. Limited to photorealistic people, places, events like say floods etc. I think cartoons or non photorealistic drawings will always be hard to pick as there is not an obvious image of reference you would have in your mind as there is no limit to different artists styles.

Surely someone would have spent the $800 to get access to the tv series, make it available on the internet and blow the value of all the NFTs out of the water.

“Alright team. Let’s play back the recordings and see if we finally have this mob boss confessing to those hits”. Plays back recording.

“Then I walked up behind him and” … audio is constantly interrupted by a string of loud farts.

“I’m sorry Captain. Jones did Taco Bell for lunch that day and the microphone on those pants are so close to the brass section of the band so to speak.”

“The suspect has pled not guilty.”

I wonder what the argument will be. “I was just creepily injecting calming oils into the apartment with a syringe to help the baby sleep. Some other creepy person with a syringe must have injected the opioids.”

Bomb Jack: A Home Port Comparison (lemmy.world)

I feel as if I’ve been hanging out at the arse-end of the 80s a lot recently, comparing ports on computers that had no business running them. I’ve long suspected that if you want to see 8-bit micros at their best, you’re better served hanging around in 1986 rather than 1989. Things were so much more achievable back then…...

ApeNo1,

So many great memories. This game and Ace were the two games that I received with my c64 many Christmas’s ago. Played Bomb Jack all through that Christmas night with my friend until sunrise.

ApeNo1,

Don’t you mean “Blue Steal”

ApeNo1,

You can be my partner in crime. I am just happy if people get a kick out of my smart arse remarks.

International chess federation FIDE: a trans woman "has no right to participate in official FIDE events for women" (doc.fide.com)

The international chess federation known as FIDE has published new rules that state that a person whose "gender was changed from a male to a female the player has no right to participate in official FIDE events for women until further FIDE’s decision is made"....

ApeNo1,

Um … what does gender or gender identity have to do with advantages or disadvantages in chess. Of all competitions where this is absolutely meaningless, surely Chess has to be nearly top of that list.

ApeNo1,

To not lose against a woman. This is not a gender gap. This is an experience gap artificially created and targeted at women via discrimination. It would be the same if say the discrimination was targeted at people with red hair because we thought they would steal our soul during a game or something equally stupid like that. The world would be saying why is no one with red hair in the top 100.

A true champion wants to test themselves against the best possible competition. A selfish coward just wants to win at all costs.

ApeNo1,

I imagine it has received more views, attention, and longevity than a video of him competently making a toasted cheese sandwich would have. Whether deliberately made badly or a genuine stuff up who knows.

ApeNo1,

Perhaps I am late to the party but I had never seen the term Linear TV used before to describe free to air / broadcast television. I can see the logic behind it.

ApeNo1, (edited )

It would only be in reference to video on demand. A lot of fixed broadcasts, live TV, are also available as streaming services that you have no control over and they just play sequentially.

Which now has me question whether technically linear tv and streaming services terminology as used in this title are accurate as they could be the same thing.

ApeNo1,

That’s interesting that your company is seeing this trend for VOD. As a fellow old person even prior to streaming services being a thing I used to record tv shows on a pvr from the digital broadcast and then essentially watch on demand. You could skips ads etc and watch free to air at your own schedule.

ApeNo1,

I will do a month of Plex Pass and see if I can get it going again. I struggled on google or the Plex site to find a really black and white position on this.

He whispered, “My precious child, I love you and will never leave you

Never, ever, during your trials and testings.

When you felt only one set of burning lips,

It was then that I smoked the crack for you.”
