A long time ago I used an app called Tinfoil Facebook that created a sandbox web browser style situation in the app. Gave it a nice UI and did not leave a trace. Switched to iPhone at some point. I wonder if it’s still around…

Lemmy is night and day with Reddit in this. Here you find immediate compassion and unequivocal denunciation of hate and disinformation regarding Jews.

Vs Reddit, on the other hand, which runs on polarizing hot takes and hate. They also love antisemitism.

It always sounds like Dan tried to be his friend the best way he could at the time, but Justin didn’t want to change, grow up or get better. They fed off each other probably. And meanwhile, Justin was abusing women and continuing to make everyone as miserable as he was.

It’s the difference between being an addict and recovering, and not. You just can’t condone any of that. Dan can’t be held responsible for another person’s actions, I’m sure he’s reckoned with his own ways via therapy and finding healthy relationship, and I get that trauma of having cared about and worked alongside a toxic person who was actually an Anchor, but got you career success.

But that’s the consequence. Justin crossed too many lines, had a pattern of behavior, and his victims brought a legitimate case. There’s no remorse from me.

What an ignorant hot take.

She was clearly afraid when they surrounded her and drew their weapons. I mean, my god she’s black and pregnant, and surrounded by cops harassing her for a false accusation. She was terrified it was the end. It’s not her fault. It’s theirs. And she can’t take it back. Read the damn article. It went against policy for that cop to stand in front of the car in the first place.

Further, this is why cops shouldn’t even fucking have guns. They are too dumb and quick to agro to realize they shouldn’t draw it ever. Especially for such a low stakes, stupid crime. When you start with the gun, it can only get worse.

That’s why people leave voicemails… you leave a verbal note of why you’re calling. And if the receiver prefers to read a text about it, several services transcribe voicemails automatically good enough to get the general gist. Or they can listen to them.

The point is that people usually don’t set out to ruin your day or misbehave, and you cannot control other people’s experience, expectations and preferences, only your own. So it’s on you to know yourself well enough to manage your boundaries appropriately with technology/tools, and possibly communication, and not to blame other people for “missteps”. When what they are doing is likely perfectly within the realm of reason to them.

Especially if they have a disability and calls are easier for them. If you have the disability, you can communicate your preferences but don’t expect people to know immediately. Set up your tech accordingly to communicate your needs. And acclimate where you can.

If things “escalate”… well… it’s likely your fault. We always need to look at our part first.

I’ve also heard it described as competence porn. Sure, characters / species are flawed and mistakes are made, but it’s often with a purpose and meaning. And you often see individuals working together, checking in with each other, apologies, acknowledgement / recognition of impact and good deeds and other ways of life (especially when other characters aren’t believed or understood at first), respect , tolerance, parenting, working towards personal growth, reflection, social justice. Complex issues handled with care and compassion. The pace of the shows always seemed determined by the clarity- no rushing. Usually there’s a resolution, or acknowledging the lack of one (that may be satisfying).

I haven’t seen a lot of the new Trek but the older stuff did all this quite well. Combined with soothing ambient space ship noise and decent midi music…. So good for mental health.
