This weekend is my first test of the waters with ads and leaflets for The Closed Tunnel at YALC (Young Adult Literature Convention) in London🫣 You may see one page from it below 🤗
Of course, the book isn't finished yet, so it's just an invitation to my newsletter, where I plan to send out gifts from time to time.
It’s my first contact with the big world, and I'm super nervous🙈 Just send me some good vibes, please 🫶🏻
@bookstodon
After watching Foundation I was curious about Asimov's Robot books.
The stories so far (I Robot and The Rest of the Robots) are quite simple and a bit crude, but they are also refreshing in their simplicity.
I see the stories as Asimov's take on the advances in robotics and computing he witnessed. It's funny in a way that the robot themes in science fiction haven't changed all that much since then.
@btrinen@Liesvanrompaey@bookstodon Asimov was specifically trying to critique the "evil/rebellious robot" trope that became the legacy of R.U.R. by presenting a paradigm of autonomous robotics in which such a scenario was impossible
@Liesvanrompaey@bookstodon I loved the way he designed the 3 laws of robotics and then challenged those in his stories, trying to find a way around them to get the robots to harm people.
NEAR-FUTURE NOIR THRILLER, set in a Pacific Northwest sodden with “broken weather,” combines lots of action and a colorful cast of characters for a highly entertaining read. B PLUS
@arensb@sciencefiction@reading@bookstodon definitely! I somewhat selfishly wish he had been able to complete the Dirk Gently series and written a lot more books! Really greatly missed.
I’m pretty well-versed in Star Trek lore, but it’s always nice to get another perspective. After reading the article I had a brain storm. Lucile Ball was [amazingly enough] a big wheel at Desilu and pushed for the second pilot. She must have liked the first one because it dared to have a smart woman in a position of power. I’m sure many other people have had that notion, and I think it’s funny that it took me so long to see the obvious.
Trying to find more #StarTrek folks to follow. If you see the mention of that hashtag and this post let's meet. I promise I always try to be nice. All Trek is Trek.
@ksiazki
Very interesting novella. Wells puts us in the mind of a security robot that's slipped its leash. The book takes us through its struggles, and the struggles of those around it, to wrestle with its humanity. I really enjoyed this, and am looking forward to the rest of the series.
@noodlemaz@DejahEntendu@bookstodon It's a much better read for me than WITCH KING. I was initially drawn into that world but after a couple chapters, the layers and layers of world building weighed on me and I put it down.
Systems Red didn't have that. I could jump right in and felt at home.
@katrintheresa@bookstodon I re-read it because I’m on a mission to read all of Moorcock’s ‘Eternal Champion’ books in order—some I’ve never read before, but many I read as a teenager.
@wgahnagl@ttrpg for me it seems to be something about the fact that the setting tend to be so large I can not grasp it. Often it's planets that's just a city, or just one ecosystem. Other times I just find the plots and players wander off into the great wide space. But, I still long for it, as I feel there are so many stories to be told.
