DerisionConsulting,

Is there any way to turn off the gold highlight on new comments? It makes things harder to read, and it’s also quite ugly.

otter,
@otter@lemmy.ca avatar

Yea I’ve noticed that too, I have been refreshing the page to get rid of them

Shadow,
@Shadow@lemmy.ca avatar

Try the different themes maybe?

DerisionConsulting, (edited )

I am using Lemmy.ca without loading any different themes, and it looks like the ugly gold does not highlight new comments anymore. Did the admin team change something?

The only remaining ugly-gold comments I have seen are ones that have the admin shield on them.

Edit: Never mind, this comment now shows as ugly-gold for me, as did another that I saw that was 8 minutes old.

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

I’m looking into building a temporary custom theme for both darkly and litely that removes this highlight, at least until there’s an option to disable that feature.

ono,

Gold? Looks more like the color of baby poop. It’s both ugly and difficult to read the text upon it.

Sigh… Here’s hoping darkly gets a better highlight color.

Along with the YOLO up to the new version, comes new bugs!

github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/4288

0.19.1 hopefully coming soon.

avidamoeba,
@avidamoeba@lemmy.ca avatar

Time to upgrade to 0.19.1-rc1!

Shadow,
@Shadow@lemmy.ca avatar

Yeeeeep, done.

avidamoeba,
@avidamoeba@lemmy.ca avatar

This upgrade is gonna be one of those.

Shadow,
@Shadow@lemmy.ca avatar

“this” upgrade? 😁

avidamoeba, (edited )
@avidamoeba@lemmy.ca avatar

Note that Jerboa 0.50 which is still the latest in the Play Store is broken with Lemmy 0.19. The newly released 0.53 should work but it’s not on the stores yet.

Suggestion:

Check that the compatible Jerboa version is on the Play Store before upgrading Lemmy. That way non-technical users like my wife won’t see breakage. Or alternatively upgrade several days after the official Lemmy release.

someguy3,

How can I get the 0.53 version of Jerboa?

Vilian,

fdrold or download the apk from their github

joshhsoj1902,

Does fdroid have the update? The latest version it’ll give me is 52.

NicoCharrua,
@NicoCharrua@lemmy.ca avatar

GitHub is on 54,
IzzyOnDroid is on 53,
F-Droid is on 52,
Google Play is on 50

avidamoeba,
@avidamoeba@lemmy.ca avatar

And 52 does not seem to be able to login. It seems like the fix is in 53.

lazylion_ca,

I pulled 0.0.54 off github and cleared the data off my phone. I still can’t log in to lemmy.ca using either Jerboa or Eternity

NicoCharrua,
@NicoCharrua@lemmy.ca avatar

54 worked for me on lemmy.ca

avidamoeba,
@avidamoeba@lemmy.ca avatar

Importantly, the signatures of the F-Droid build is different than the one from Github, is different than the one for the Play Store. As a result, you can’t update an app installed from one of these sources with a build from another. 😮‍💨

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

Yeah, lesson learned :/

I’ll compile a list of apps and see how we can track which one are ready for any API breaking changes before we do the server update.

avidamoeba,
@avidamoeba@lemmy.ca avatar

I’d just delay the update for a few days up to a week. That would give a chance for most maintained apps to release updates via their respective channels. Then I wouldn’t have to care and check for specific apps.

Shadow,
@Shadow@lemmy.ca avatar

The app developers were warned like a month ago that this would be a breaking change, they had lots of time to release patches and there’s been a few large instances on the beta of 0.19 for well over a week.

IMHO It’s not really sensible for us to go test the apps and then hold back on upgrading just because one of the dozen apps isn’t compatible yet.

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

What’s even worse is that the Jerboa developer is one of the Lemmy dev, he could litterally see this coming a mile away :/

But on the other hand he’s at the mercy of Google making the update available whenever they feel like it.

avidamoeba,
@avidamoeba@lemmy.ca avatar

It’s why I wouldn’t test at all. I’d just wait a bit. Or I’d update after Lemmy.world updates. 😅 Little extra work that way.

DerisionConsulting,

Most of the aps can’t even distinguish between subscript and strike-through

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

FYI Jerboa is now at v0.54 on the Play Store.

avidamoeba,
@avidamoeba@lemmy.ca avatar

I just updated before seeing this comment. 🙌

Pxtl,
@Pxtl@lemmy.ca avatar

The highlight on new comments is ugly as sin. Do not want.

DerisionConsulting,

It’s absolutely atrocious, and it reduces the contrast, making things harder to read.

Fiivemacs,

Me not knowing wtf you guys are talking about with this ugly gold thing that has never shown on my jerboa program on my phone

    F-Droid seems to still be on 0.0.52

    You may need to update you repositories. It’s been on .54 for a couple days.

    [edit] Scratch that, I had added a repo which had the updated version sooner and forgot about it.

    dom,

    Since this update i haven’t been able to log back into liftoff. Any solution to that yet?

    thayer,

    Liftoff hasn’t seen an updated release in months, and unfortunately it won’t work again until it does. It’s a good excuse to try some alternative clients…I’ve switched to Voyager for now and have been really happy with it so far.

    zcd,

    Aww yeah we can block instances now

    TheWaterGod,
    @TheWaterGod@lemmy.ca avatar

    This is the thing I’m happiest to see and I hope it helps Lemmy grow more. Being able to block the NSFW/porn instances is such a quality-of-life improvement. I’ve got nothing against porn, but it’s a bad look if anyone can see your screen and every third post is nudity (even if it’s blurred).

    zcd,

    Oh this already exists, you can block all NSFW posts

    TheWaterGod,
    @TheWaterGod@lemmy.ca avatar

    I’ve seen that option but unfortunately not every NSFW post is NSFW because of nudity. Like some of the post in the Ukraine community are marked NSFW for war reasons.

    caseyweederman,

    I kinda expected a Reddit-disruptor to split gore off of nsfw from day one.

    mp3,
    @mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

    Same, I still want to see some non-pr0n NFSW stuff so that really helps.

    clgoh,

    Can’t log into alex.lemmy.ca .

    grte,

    I wouldn’t be surprised if the various front ends won’t need to be updated. The mobile apps do, I imagine from the 2FA changes?

    smorks,
    @smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

    it looks like it’s not yet compatible with 0.19: github.com/sheodox/alexandrite/issues/85#issuecom…

    mp3,
    @mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

    Alexandrite has been updated to work with 0.19, you should be able to sign in now.

    Rentlar,

    Clearing app data and updating to Jerboa v.54 fixed my problems logging into lemmy.ca. Glad to see the new features. I can finally put lemmynsfw.com to rest from my feed.

    Arghblarg,
    @Arghblarg@lemmy.ca avatar

    Cool!

    However, I notice upvote/downvote and community block actions appear to break when using old.lemmy.ca on desktop (guess whomever maintains that theme has work to do… just noting here).

    EDIT: Whoops, my bad for not reading further down, others have reported. Thanks.

    mp3,
    @mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

    mlmym (old.lemmy.ca) has been updated, should be fixed now.

    Arghblarg,
    @Arghblarg@lemmy.ca avatar

    Hooray! Thank you devs!

    TheWaterGod,
    @TheWaterGod@lemmy.ca avatar

    There seems to be an issue with uploading large images. I don’t know if anyone else has noticed it but I’m getting the error when trying to upload wallpapers to /c/wallpapers. I think it might be related to file size? Or maybe file format? It’s a 13MB .png file. I don’t remember running into issues with the old version when posting similar content.

    https://lemmy.ca/pictrs/image/e986e8a3-2059-4f5e-a7d2-e3e7eb6b9598.png

    Shadow,
    @Shadow@lemmy.ca avatar

    Pictrs wasn’t touched in the upgrade, try a different file format? Might be the png

    TheWaterGod,
    @TheWaterGod@lemmy.ca avatar

    Thanks! I’ll try converting the file format and see if that’ll work. I successfully uploaded a JPEG last night, so maybe it just doesn’t like PNG files anymore 🤷‍♂️

    Shadow,
    @Shadow@lemmy.ca avatar

    Let me know if you still have issues, but might take me a day or two to dig.

    Rocketpoweredgorilla,
    @Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca avatar

    old.lemmy.ca is having issues with the update as well. voting doesn’t seem to always work, and I couldn’t post from it. Not a huge deal, there’s always the normal mode.

    Shadow,
    @Shadow@lemmy.ca avatar

    Yeah might take a bit for those apps to be patched

    Albbi,

    I left old.lemmy.ca to upvote you.

    mp3,
    @mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

    You can go back to it now, it’s been updated :)

    mp3,
    @mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

    Thanks, also added a mention in the sidebar, and I’ll update the banner on the frontpage when something changes.

    Shadow,
    @Shadow@lemmy.ca avatar

    This one should work now.

    Rocketpoweredgorilla,
    @Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca avatar

    Seems to be so far, thanks!

    troyunrau,
    @troyunrau@lemmy.ca avatar

    I am really liking Scales, Auto Expand Media, and Open in new Tab. Very nice QoL improvements.

    droopy4096,

    Voyager seems to be OK after upgrade, Eternity however spits 404 errors on upvotes etc

    otter,
    @otter@lemmy.ca avatar

    Try logging out and back in

    droopy4096,

    interesting. while annoying it seemed to help

    otter,
    @otter@lemmy.ca avatar

    My understanding is that every app and frontend should have required a quick log out/log in after this upgrade since the authentication stuff was upgraded. So it might be good to do that on Voyager as well, or keep an eye out for issues

    It’s annoying though I agree

    NENathaniel,
    @NENathaniel@lemmy.ca avatar

    Thank you!

    and updates on if we’ll be able to donate to lemmy.ca in the near future? I know non-profit status was a goal before

    mp3,
    @mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

    @Shadow is working on it but I can’t go into details.
