DerisionConsulting,

A website that doesn’t just use lazy titles like " (new game) is the mix of (game that sold well this year) and (game that sold well 5 years ago) you’ve always wanted"

DerisionConsulting,

If you’re not a fan of this type of behaviour, I recommend playing a TTRPG that isn’t D&D.

D&D has gotten a bit of an “LULLZRANDOM!!11!!” reputation, possibly because of the content creators needing something whacky to get views, or just because of how mainstream it is. If you need to stand out in a crowd of thousands being extreme, novel, or whacky has the lowest effort for the highest reward.

If everyone at the table finds the game fun, then you are playing correctly. I find this behaviour exhausting and would tell the players that it needs to stop unless someone else wants to GM.

DerisionConsulting, (edited )

I am not here to shit on D&D. If you’re having fun, then it’s the right game for you and your table.

D&D is a rules medium game that is based around combat, but isn’t great at combat being balanced at combat where every PC is basically immortal. The game itself doesn’t really set a tone, which makes different people have different expectations of what the game “should” be.

Because of it not-quite-being-great at anything, people tend to want to push limits, or add homebrew.

Edit: A rules lite system with a set tone will also prevent this level of silly, if that’s not what you want

DerisionConsulting,

It’s absolutely atrocious, and it reduces the contrast, making things harder to read.

DerisionConsulting,

Is there any way to turn off the gold highlight on new comments? It makes things harder to read, and it’s also quite ugly.

DerisionConsulting,

Most of the aps can’t even distinguish between subscript and strike-through

DerisionConsulting, (edited )

I am using Lemmy.ca without loading any different themes, and it looks like the ugly gold does not highlight new comments anymore. Did the admin team change something?

The only remaining ugly-gold comments I have seen are ones that have the admin shield on them.

Edit: Never mind, this comment now shows as ugly-gold for me, as did another that I saw that was 8 minutes old.

DerisionConsulting,

Anytime you see an article full of links, you shouldn’t click any of them.

The little notice at the bottom:

GameSpot may get a share of the revenue if you buy anything featured on our site.

I mean, look at these links (I have made them unclickable here)

anrdoezrs. net/click-100770772-15232592?sid=subid_value&url=www.gog.com/en/game/rollercoaster_tycoon_2

dpbolvw. net/click-100770772-15232592?sid=subid_value&url=www.gog.com/en/game/yakuza_complete_series

DerisionConsulting,

Only for windows. Those on Linux will just need to continue to emulate

DerisionConsulting,

Is this supposed to link to an article?

Edit: I am assuming it was supposed to link to www.usatoday.com/story/news/…/71815263007/

DerisionConsulting,

I’m not an app person, but it seems like none of the Lemmy aps are up to snuff.

Does the ap you use handle Subscript and strike-through correctly, or does it cross them both out?

Video appears to show officer with knee on protestor's neck, police say it didn't happen (www.cbc.ca)

A group of protesters that demonstrated at a rally in support of Palestinians over the weekend in Toronto say a man who was protesting was injured during his arrest — which included an officer kneeling on his neck, something Toronto's former police chief said officers are not trained to do.

Titles like "This game mix [game] and [another game] to give a [appreciation words] challenge" are really getting that annoying?

To me, honestly, no much. I can see the SEO efforts: if you have to talk about a game called “suckass” probably… very few people will click on the title. But when they put [GTA] and [BALDUR’s GATE] for a generic fantasy game where you steal stuff, you can see the magazine publisher is that hungry for click....

DerisionConsulting, (edited )

The most annoying part, in my opinion, is when the game isn’t actually like the games it mentions.
“You need to survive and also build a base” does not make a game the same thing as Valheim.
“There are dragons” does not make a game Skyrim.
“Contains an elf” doesn’t make a game BG3.

DerisionConsulting,

Honestly, that depends on if it’s KB or just provincial court. If it’s provincial court, it kinda depends on the judge/region. Alberta provincial judges seem to like being called “Sir”, not-so much in Saskatchewan or Manitoba

DerisionConsulting,

Shadowrun: Okay so you has a weapon that can attack the darkness? Great.

What’s the the DV and AP of the weapon?
Let’s start on your pool so add your Agility Attribute and weapon skill together.

What’s your personal reach plus your weapons reach? okay, that’s lower than the Shadow’s reach by 2, so take that out of your pool

You took 7 damage so far right? okay so minus another 2 from your pool.

Okay, now roll your pool! 7 hits because of your EDGE limit. Pretty good!

So the shadow, let me see… It’s going to parry because it counts itself as a weapon, so -5 to initiative to add it’s skill to the DEF pool, now add the intuition attribute and reaction attribute to the DEF pool, it took 2 damage which is -0 to the pool… okay I can roll now, I got 5 hits.

So, 7-5 is >0 so let’s add your DV from your weapon, so you have (7-5)+(2+STR) and the AP of the weapon was -3. So, looks like this shadow’s Armor is less than that, so it’s going to be physical damage.

So, now the shadow will roll BODY+Armor-3 as a pool, then subtract it from your hits… and it got 4 hits. So 5-4= 1, you did one damage.

…oh sorry, you have 6 more attacks this turn? And your teamates are summoning ghosts to deal with the Shadow, and Sarah is going to …hack the shadow?

Okay, give me a second…

DerisionConsulting,

I’m not sure it truly fits the definition of emigration if the people leaving Canada aren’t from Canada and sometimes haven’t become citizens yet.

DerisionConsulting,

This survey has some pretty useless questions. Someone “strongly agreeing” that they believe something is not the same thing as that belief being fact.

These warehouses probably awful. I don’t want opinions, I want examples of actual risks and situations.

DerisionConsulting,

They might not have everything, but they might have the data on events that are bad enough to claim worker’s comp.

Those numbers would’ve made this article. As it stands now, it’s someone telling us about what someone else says about what someone else says about what others feel.

DerisionConsulting, (edited )

But that would require basically every Canadian city to be already connect to some rail network. But that would cost too much and take too long. It would almost need to be nationalized and have been completed 1800’s. Maybe even specifically sometime in the early 1880’s.

DerisionConsulting,

Looks like the people are downvoting you are just being assholes.

I also touched EA or Origin since for almost 20 years, and the only racing games I like are things like Wipeout. So it looks like the games you enjoy aren’t titles that either of us play. I was hoping to see a game or two in your list that I either myself or my husband knew a workaround for, and could attest that it works.

I know that some people have had luck opening Origin games through Steam in order to use Proton, my husband has done that for some Assassin’s Creed games. Here is someone showing the steps for Need for Speed The Run:
toptensoftware.com/…/running-ea-origin-games-unde…

I also completely understand just wanting to come home and play the games you want to play without any tinkering. Use whatever OS lets you do what you want to do on your system. There’s a reason I run Mint now instead of something more cutting edge.

DerisionConsulting,

They aren’t really comments, they are closer to pictures of comments.

DerisionConsulting,

I am aware of what they have said their goal is, but it’s not how alien.top works.

It would also be one thing if a user opted in to have their own content mirrored, but it’s not a user-by-user basis.

Also, this is a discussion for those from Lemmy.ca, though I appreciate you voicing an opinion.

DerisionConsulting,

I had the same thought process as you did!

When I thought it was just people cloning their own accounts, I didn’t see why anyone was against it.

Once I saw that the bots weren’t made from a request duplicate made the the original user, and that they almost exclusively post outside of Alien.top, I was very against their existence.

DerisionConsulting,

A couple of years ago, an extra $10 would’ve made my week, or an extra $83.70 would’ve made my month.

Now, it’s closer to $10K, and it wouldn’t really significantly improve my life, it would just let me get a new roof faster.

Who's winning the war in Ukraine?

The media won’t give me great answers to this question and I think this I trust this community more, thus I want to know from you. Also, I have heard reports that Russia was winning the war, if that’s true, did the west miscalculate the situation by allowing diplomacy to take a backseat and allowing Ukraine to a large...

DerisionConsulting,

The goal posts for both sides are very, very different.

The invading Russian forces have basically failed their first goal; to fully take over Ukraine. They can now claim a minor victory by stealing more territory from Ukraine than just Crimea.

Ukraine’s goal was to stop Russia from wiping them off of the map. Things appear to have changed. Their new goal is to retake all land that Russia has stolen (including Crimea).

The war has largely been at a standstill for a while, and the only times that Ukraine has been able to make progress is when the word has given its attention and resources. Since “Israel vs Hamas” is the guerre-du-jour, Ukraine seems to be getting less of both.

So I may sound like a doomer, but it’s not looking good for the good guys. They have a much harder victory condition, and the resources that they have relied so far may be drying up.

DerisionConsulting,

3 or 4 times people reported me as a risk to myself on reddit, and this suicide prevention hotline bot would then send messages with long lists of number to call.

Turning this tool into a weapon against me, simply because I am pro-vaccine was just pathetic and gross.

DerisionConsulting,

I just realized that I have bought 2 games at full price in the past decade., Elite Dangergous, and BG3. I did back Wasteland 2 on Kickstarter in late 2013, but I think it was like $20.

DerisionConsulting,

What does being from the Netherlands have to do with shopping at Walmart?

DerisionConsulting,

She was on Sesame Street in the 1970’s, and one of her albums charted in Canada in 1992.

Legend is not the correct word.

DerisionConsulting,

Does anyone know when being religious stopped being gay?

Most popular religions seem to be anti-gay, so I don’t really know what you are trying to ask.

DerisionConsulting,

I think it was closer to 25 year, maybe even 30 years in some parts. I remember people beginning to realize how bigoted it was to use gay as an insult prior to gay marriage being legalized in 2005.

DerisionConsulting,

Brad Wall - born in Swift Current, SK
Chris Barber - born in Swift Current, SK
Largest donation that I saw in the GiveSendGo leak - Swift Current, SK

For being so small, Swift is far too involved in this.

DerisionConsulting,

If you have $10.00, you can get the names and addresses of the directors, officers, and shareholders of any corporation that was incorporated in Saskatchewan. The document you want is called a Profile Report.

If you know someone with a firm account (like Law or Accounting), you can look at most of this data completely free.

DerisionConsulting,

Yeah, the turnout was disgusting.

DerisionConsulting,

most Vulcans are a bunch of lying emotional sluts

Vulcans = twinks in their early 20s?

DerisionConsulting,

The article ends with saying that a 4-day work week will solve the problem, but it won’t.

The issue isn’t that Rebecca from the article needs to work 70+ hours, and they would be completely fine if it was “only” 64 hours. The issue is stated plainly in a quote earlier on in the article; Salaries have not increased at the same pace as the cost of living. No one should need to work 2 jobs in order to survive. Going from 70+ hours to 40 would be a much bigger change in the lives of the people in the article.

DerisionConsulting,

I haven’t really heard anything about her since gamergate, and the anti-SJW/feminist days in the 2010’s. I have seen her pop up twice in a week, both times in places where anti-SJW beliefs would not be welcome.

Are her views/take fairly shallow and easily swayed, has she matured as a person and changed her politics, or is she just an online creator following where the trends are for views?

DerisionConsulting,

In Canada yellow means stop, unless it’s too late to stop then you need to get through the intersection during the grace period before it turns red.

Does it mean something else in the USA?

DerisionConsulting,

A bookstore was vandalized.
The CEO of the bookstore created the HESEG Foundation.
The HESEG Foundation financially supports those who immigrate to Israel to enlist in the IDF.
The IDF is killing innocent civilians.

DerisionConsulting,

They are giving money specifically to people who move to Israel to join the military, not just to Israelis in general.

If the money was being donated to a hospital, orphanage, or homeless shelter, no one would be protesting.

DerisionConsulting,

Isn’t this just the Jesus strat?

DerisionConsulting,

Other than the major flaw of killing one person, Louis Riel did some really great work. His work set the stage for the Manitoba Act which is how Manitoba became a Canadian Province. They kept things surprisingly non-violent, again, other than Tom Scott.

It makes perfect sense for him to be the “honorary first Premier” some of our current premiers have killed people, DUI Hank Hill of SK for example.

DerisionConsulting,

Mz4250 has a very consistent photoshoot setup.

DerisionConsulting,

They might no longer have a Canadian/provincial health coverage since they live out of the country.
