Melonpoly,

The story wasn’t great, but the gameplay was fun… until I discovered roads which felt like it took away from what I found fun in the game.

domi,

Same, the mountains redeemed it for me though. Building a network of zip lines was fun.

I got it for free on Epic, tried it, and uninstalled it after the first Monster Energy ad. Fuck that shit.

Kecessa,

New studio, they had to get financing from somewhere, worst case get the director’s cut upgrade whenever it’s on sale, it cost me 5$, so I got 100h of gameplay for 5$.

Maestro,
@Maestro@kbin.social avatar

Nah, pass. I'm soured on the game now. And there's a ton of other great games to play.

limeaide,

I got the game for $7 on fanatical last week and yesterday whenever I was playing it, I went to go take a dumb and there was an ad for an AMC show.

Really took me out of it tbh.

Kecessa,

As I said, no ads in the director’s cut and otherwise, new studio so gotta get funding somehow… They didn’t use a funding platform as far as I remember

eldesgraciado,

Monster Energy AD? For real?

Goo_bubbs,

Yep, it’s the most shameless ad I’ve ever seen built into a video game.

Maestro,
@Maestro@kbin.social avatar

Yes. This post apocalyptic wasteland in the far future is littered with cans of Monster Energy drink which act as healing potions. So it's not like you can avoid them either.

This is total sales? Kinda reads like concurrent players which would be wild.

Fitzsimmons,

It’s a time travel game where stuff from players’ games bleed over into each other so who’s to say what “concurrency” actually is, really?

Aussiemandeus,

I never finished this game, but damn did i enjoy how relaxing it was

Colorcodedresistor,

Relaxing!? For me it’s like the movie Running scared. the moment my porter boots touch grass I’m sanic, miss me with that time rain and stranding zones i can deliver packages all day just try hittin’ me.

Cethin,

I thought it was really relaxing… until it suddenly is super stressful. By the time you finish the game the stressful parts aren’t an issue anymore though.

Colorcodedresistor,

i had like 4 strokes the first time i started getting pulled into the inky abyss 12/10 would porter again.

Aussiemandeus,

Yeah i will admit the ooze shit got to me a lot haha. But that took it from casual relaxation to heart pounding back down to thank fuck its relaxing again

My take on this game: I don’t understand the hype. You just have to carry stuff on your backpack between places, stumbling like a drunken idiot.

Sorry, I played many games over the years but can’t find anything in this to get me hooked.

wcSyndrome,

Have you played the game? While true, you can boil down the game to “you deliver packages” there’s a lot more to it. There’s planning your equipment and weight distribution, evaluating the best route and adapting when something unexpected shows up, the give and take of the social strand system, etc.

It’s for sure not a game for everyone and I don’t begrudge anyone who says they don’t enjoy it but the one liner that pretty much everyone boils it down to does a disservice when describing how much is actually involved

Aussiemandeus,

Yeah the social world building system was awesome

Quazatron,
@Quazatron@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, I played the game. I still have it installed, so I’ll try again.

Some games will hook you from the start and will not let you go until you finish them. Some will have you return even after you’ve finished because you enjoy being immersed in the world.

This one felt like too much like reality to be fun, having to do heavy labour carrying stuff while being punished by black stuff popping up randomly from nowhere…

It probably boils down to personal tastes, I’ve had this issue with some other games like Hellblade, Control, and Prey.

It’s clearly not the grinding aspect because I’ve clocked 350 hours on Skyrim.

Let me have another go, and I’ll get back to you.

delitomatoes,

The entire bar building aspect/async multiplayer is hidden from the trailers. Might not be as fun if player counts are down

Gameplay wise, it’s looks fucking boring.

Everything else-wise, this is the probably closest we’re gonna get to Kojima making a film.

EncryptKeeper,

It’s really a great ton of fun, but you have to find logistics/transportation/exploration and a little stealth fun. It’s not a “Little something for everyone” type of game. But if you like games like Snowrunner, truck simulators, or Elite Dangerous or if you just have a penchant for hiking/mountaineering, it’s the only real AAA game of its kind and you’ll like it a lot. Also while the story is somewhat nonsense, the worldbuilding and general “vibe” you get while playing it really revolted it above even it’s gameplay.

XbSuper,

Hmm, I’ve always assumed I would hate this game, but I love snowrunner and trucking sims. Maybe I’ll pick it up while it’s on sale.

EncryptKeeper,

It’s actually kind of funny because that new Snowrunner spinoff game looks to have been inspired by the gameplay loop of Death Stranding too.

4am,

They’re adapting the game into a movie, it was announced quite recently IIRC

Kecessa,

engadget.com/a24-will-help-bring-the-death-strand…

I don’t understand why a movie instead of, at least, a mini series…

sugar_in_your_tea,

I always wished they’d make a Yakuza miniseries. Hopefully this trend of film/show adaptations of video games continues.

Kecessa,

Get Uwe Boll on it, stat!
