This sucks. I love jocat and all his videos. This is the second creator sheet Lindsey that had quit due to harassment of shit stains. I'm fucking tired if this being the Internet and I don't even have to deal with death threats to my family like they do.

@Neato@kbin.social avatar

There's way WAY too many generic and store brands for them all to just be QC rejects.

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

It's stealing. Training is theft. It is NOT like "a person looking at art in a museum and gaining inspiration". AI has no inspiration or creativity. It's an image autocomplete algorithm using millions of other people's images as bases to combine and smooth out. That's all it does. If I took a bunch of Monet paintings and creates some brushes in Photoshop and used it to create a new work, those brushes would still be theft. At best, it'd be a collage art piece I'd have to credit Monet for.

It's popular, very memeable, has a long history, and most importantly: there's 2-3 series of it running right now. So it's topical and being engaged with.

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

Exactly. Charalanahzard did a video on this a few days ago I thought was really good.

Essentially what you said: it's not really an issue. It only seems like one because there's a demographic that's intensely jealous and controlling.

A male to male electrical cable with wall socket plugs is a fire hazard. There are some made to be used to connect a generator to a house but it's a really bad idea.

How are you going to stop them from cheating?

Neato,

I love this. "We have a plan but we can't tell you.". Peak uselessness.

This but perhaps crippling depression as well.

Do you like, not understand how party politics work?

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

Yeah. How dare people want to protect trans rights. The gall.

I actually use timeline. Does this mean it will no longer work on a browser?

This is total sales? Kinda reads like concurrent players which would be wild.

Starfield design lead says players are "disconnected" from how games are actually made: "Don't fool yourself into thinking you know why it is the way it is" (www.gamesradar.com)

apparently this is in response to a few threads on Reddit flaming Starfield—in general, it’s been rather interesting to see Bethesda take what i can only describe as a “try to debate Starfield to popularity” approach with the game’s skeptics in the past month or two. not entirely sure it’s a winning strategy,...

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

That's the difference between art and just a product. Starfield is just a consumer product. It sold because of heavy marketing.

If you hold up sales as a measure of success, you deserve every possible criticism.

Marketing Company Claims That It Actually Is Listening to Your Phone and Smart Speakers to Target Ads (www.404media.co)

A marketing team within media giant Cox Media Group (CMG) claims it has the capability to listen to ambient conversations of consumers through embedded microphones in smartphones, smart TVs, and other devices to gather data and use it to target ads, according to a review of CMG marketing materials by 404 Media and details from a...

And you can’t teleport in there. And summoning a devil or warping the castle is forbidden. And…”

That's just forbiddance. Just need 1 wizard with 6th level spells to ritual cast it once a day for a month.

If those owners figure it out they should hire a lawyer to buy it and parcel it out b/t all of them so they can expand their fences or just to prevent someone else.

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

Yes. Pathfinder 2e has a good one.

Rolling a nat 1 or 20 doesn't mean Critical success/failure. It means it moves the success status up or down one: Critical success, success, failure, critical failure. In addition, that game also specifies that a critical is also achieved by your result being +/- 10 of the result.

So if you're attempting a DC 35 check (arguing with a god, let's say) with a +2 mod, a nat 20 would get you a result of 22, a critical failure. But a nat 20 bumps it up one success, so you get a regular failure. Whereas if the DC was 25, a 22 is still a failure but your crit means it's a regular success.

This has middling applications in D&D 5e, though. PF2e's DCs and skill bonuses are not constrained by 5e's Bounded Accuracy. So they can vary a lot more. In D&D's case I had to pull pretty much the highest possible DC the game suggests so there's not a lot of use cases for this. But it's still a better system for including criticals on skill checks. And this is why 5e doesn't have them normally.

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

It's more that it's just more work for the DM in this case. Every time a skill check is called or considered, the DM has to reconsider if the character considers this a routine or trivial task. You can see this in the stats: if the character's modifier is 5 or less than the DC, it's trivial. But you also must consider even without a high mod vs DC, is this a task the character has performed hundreds of times before? I try not to come up with solutions, or utilize WOTC solutions that make a lot more work for the DM. Especially if there's already a rule or slight tweak that makes sense and prevents this work: in this case, no crits for skill checks.

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

If you're seeing them here, there was quite a bit here where posting old memes was a thing. It wasn't just then making it to the fediverse, but nostalgia posting.

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

I just noticed something about this scene from R&M: they have solid color wallpaper. Do people actually do that? I think I only ever saw patterned wallpaper. Also the idea you can just grab the paper in the center implies such a degree of hand strength to be silly.

Don't forget the mortgage rates are sky high so even people with 20% can't really afford to buy. Corporations buy for cash.

How to intentionally get terminated from a job without sacrificing unemployment benefits?

My friend is a customer service rep who is ready to retire. Her company is talking about layoffs with 13+ weeks of severance, but when she asked (anonymously) if they were accepting volunteers, they said no. In case she’s not one of the ones told to clean out her desk, what are the ways she could get terminated while...

(novice) Why would you get UDP packets multiple times? UDP doesn't check for acceptance I thought.

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

Wait, this isn't The Onion?

Well firstly Mr. Founder, your employees mostly AREN'T SHAREHOLDERS! Why would they care about other people's profits? They work at Panera, not as part of some start-up. Their individual work isn't going to meaningfully impact on whether or not Panera closes their stores and they lose their jobs. So why should they give a shit? Do YOU care about how viable their wages are? Maybe you should make all your employees shareholders and they've have some incentive to want the stock to rise?

I thought you were good at business?!

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

Use it the first time it's needed. Always use it. As a DM I often expect people to use their stuff. Besides, having low resources makes for interesting decisions. And the DM will know if you're all out of resources anyways.

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

Then you have casters blowing max slot every fight and trivializing them.

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

You can play fighter or warlock. Dnd limits extreme power with spell slots and charges. Otherwise they'd have to nerf the upper power level. Can't have people casting fire storm every few minutes. It'd ruin balance AND ensure you had to cast that every time to deal with increased threats.

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

Most classes are long rest classes. Any caster besides warlock is.

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

Then you're going to have boring spells that do damage akin to cantrips. No one wants homogenization.

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

Cool. And that exists in that game. But that's not the core of dnd.

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

That's exactly what fly is for. Level 10 parties aren't challenged by simple terrain.

Also it's a game. Your can run yours preplanned or improvised as much as you and your players like.

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

It's to prevent nuclear war. If everyone voted to invade or harshly punish a powerful country they could respond.

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

They could contract PR out to a firm or team on a part-time basis. They absolutely need someone in PR and marketing. They released a trailer on the fucking Game Awards and the single thing they are most known for is lying to players about their product.

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

So...what do you do in this game? We've seen movement and very basic NPC interactions. Building entire or part of buildings automatically. But that's it. They mostly just showed off pretty, but almost entirely empty landscapes.

They are also doubling down on procedural generation. I hope they learned from NMS that procedural generation can be useful but only if there are interesting things to do that get generated. If you generated the same set of boring landmasses, there's no point. I saw nothing in this trailer remotely new.

Also their trailer's text was hot garbage. "A fantasy earth". No shit, really? No one would have got that from the fucking dragons.

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

Will it? We didn't see any combat, nor even complex building that both titles have. I guess I really just hate these kind of trailers that show next to nothing about the actual game. All it does is raise questions and annoy me.

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

So what's the core gameplay loop?

We are shown exploration but little to find besides landscape. We are shown building simple houses with prefabs. We see very basic npc interaction to your presence. But that's it. NMS biggest issue is that there isn't that much to do and it's depth is shallow. I'm seeing nothing here to dissuade that.

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

That'd be fine, though? Not an OS expert but if you move it, the computer knows where it goes any can pause and read/writes and utilize RAM for it's in-use version. But if it tries the same thing when you deleted it, it's going to have nowhere to put the results of whatever it's doing. Also if the computer is just reading a file, it may assume you might not want to delete it.

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

How about a Saturn 5 rocket? While we're just making shit up about what truck owners ever do.

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

How about a fucking sedan?

The Ford Fiesta, a subcompact, can tow 2,000lb. For the vast, vast majority of tow jobs a standard car with a hitch will be just fine. Fuck, half of England tows RVs across their country every summer and they mostly drive cars smaller than Americans.

Oh, and the person driving that Kei truck? He likely doesn't own it, it's for his job. Trucks are work vehicles. Almost no Americans need pickup trucks. It's a luxury status symbol that's highly dangerous. The few times someone needs to haul shit, you can rent one and then you don't have to worry as much about scratching the pristine bed that 99% of American truck owners never use.

People care about the color of the bubble, even if you don't. A LOT of place's don't regularly use SMS.

Neato,

I forget where I saw it but I watched a video that showed how in 69 it would be so difficult to fake the shots that it was easier to just go to the moon.

Flood insurance is 100% unaffordable. Even insurance companies are subsidized by the government for flood.

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

Yep. Something like 88% of new builds in the US are built from the start with HOAs.

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

Any track, not any artist. You could have a hundred tracks getting hundreds of streams a piece. Maximum before cutoff would be about $3/track. Not a ton but could be hundreds of dollars. And combining that from dozens to thousands of artists potentially in that boat.

The same reason merchandise sellers are on Amazon even though Amazon forces them to lower prices and make less: if you're NOT on Amazon, people just won't find you. If you're not on Spotify, you don't exist in the music world to some people. Because otherwise where else will they search for you? Youtube Music or Apple Music, both pay sites. Otherwise you're having word of mouth or searching manually.
