This was born out of a couple of comments I left on peoples posts of them asking for a clear explanation of key fediverse concepts and them saying the explanations made things a lot clearer for them....

And now something certainly no one asked for: a new Marketing Concept for Mastodon! Let’s face it: the bird icon and the whole birdy concept of Twitter was perfect marketing. It just was. Its so effortless, casual and simply fun. And now that Elon Musk gave it away - why not claim it for the Fediverse? The moment is almost too...
That was pretty useful option on reddit and Im missing it on lemmy.
Does anyone know if Lemmy automatically strips exif data from images posted?...
I think this is one of the best ways to make the Fediverse mature....

The beta for groups will release later this week, which won’t be federated initially. Federation will be added afterwards....
It seems anytime I try to check out Mastodon it is always some negative political view or affiliation of why X, Y & Z is bad. Is this just what most people like boosting or is it a sign of botting to push negativity over the more positive headlines?...

Here’s the thing. I’m a mod for a small-time community for a niche interest, !castles I’m also on Mastodon, and was before my Reddit exodus. I follow #castles as well as a few other related topics on Matsodon, so I get quality toots, such as this: mastodon.scot/, that I wish I could just crosspost over to my community....
I do not know whether anybody else has already said this, but Lemmy could really use a feature that would allow individual users to block instances. I think it could have spared some of the defederation word wars that have been going on lately, since that would be an individual choice rather than a collective one....
Make only each account’s 5 most recent upvotes effect post rank. In effect this would make vote sellers need to make many more accounts to be useful, they would need to churn upvotes....

I'm assuming most of us here want a large community. The reality is most people aren't into technology nearly as much as many of the people actually on the Fediverse. For other people who are into tech (like myself and a lot of people here), the federation technology itself being promoted as a core component of the appeal makes...
Is there a network for rating movies and seeing the ratings of other users in the fediverse?...
Like in a one column, auto scroller type ui? Jerboa is already like this for mobile, but I can’t find one for desktop
I’ve been on Lemmy for some time now and it’s time for me to finally understand how Federation works. I have general idea and I have accounts on three federated instances, but I need some details....
EDIT 3: All good now, the DNS has done its thing and defed.xyz is fully operational! Once again, thank you all for having checked out my tool, it means a lot to me....
