Noob question: What's special about the first layer?
Not so long ago I bought my first 3D printer. It hasn’t shipped yet, but I’m gathering knowledge so hopefully I’ll be able to use it when it arrives....

Been using prusaslicers default PLA profile with issues and this is my first roll of PETG, so I just selected the corresponding profile for that....
I’m creating a board game that has custom 3d pieces. I’d like to test out my print before I send it to the game manufacturer and also want to make demo sets. They need a huge tooling fee before they’ll do samples. There are app. 10 designs and no bigger than 45mm....
I was playing with my POP2 3D scanner, scanned this toy fish of my kid’s and 3D printed the resulting scan. I had to manually draw the spots on it, but really happy with how it turned out. Pictures don’t do it justice just how exactly the same they are in hand. Not all of the textures came through though.
I’m looking to start keeping hardware for prints that need additional parts to complete them. A Pi case that I printed needed screws that I don’t have on hand and needed to go searching for some....
I’m in the market for my first non-resin printer and the 3 pro seems pretty popular. The 4’s are now out and available and I was wondering what the community verdict on them is?
So far I am happy with it, though I wouldn’t make another kit at least not without a drill.
I just changed my stock Ender 3 hotend to a Volcano to get back to a more durable printhead after wrecking my Creality Spider head and have gotten it to where I can print something monolythic (like a brick or boot dryer type thing that doesn’t have much actual detail) without much issue, but printing something with any detail,...
Was gifted some old lights that were designed to be stuck into holes in wood. Didn’t want to drill holes that big into my kitchen cabinets, so I designed and printed these holders that can be screwed to the cabinets and hold the lights. Also the lights are surrounded by it, so they don’t glare. Here are the results:...
I got my Kywoo Slim printer last week, and it’s done well for its price of £200, although it was slightly bad at detail as it would drag the filament along with it, rather than the filament adhering properly to the build plate....
Personal opinion:...
Last Saturday I ordered a Neptune 4 Pro from Elegoo's US site and I'm super excited to upgrade from my Anycubic Mega S. I'm still waiting on it to ship though and was wondering what Elegoo's shipping timelines usually look like for these. I'd read that they usually ship from their warehouse 1-3 business days after ordering, but...
I keep adding more tool holders to this as I find the need. Still have one blank area to fill, but it’s mostly there.
It seems that most of the drywall mounts that I looked for printed in a vertical orientation, which is not good for strength....
This is a cry for help. I have a Monoprice Voxel which is basically a Flashforge Adventurer 3. Owned for about 3 years now, and still have only a slight idea as to what I am doing. I have been successful with small prints, little thin walled custom functional prints, and they do fine. Trying to print anything longer than 3 hours...
Any most have upgrades for a mostly stock Ender 3 running on a 8-bit board with an original bed? Changed out bed springs and tube already.
After a few hickups I finished building my MK4 kit and Tukkari enclosure. The first few prints have been fantastic....
Edit: imgur is flagging it as potentially containing adult material. It does not.

Hi all...
I just got into 3D Printing (got my Ender 3 two weeks ago) and I’ve been loving the experience! Learning lots of new things as well as making a few mistakes and learning from those....
Any suggestions on what nucleotide chain to print out?
I’ve done some progress on it and it’s now on Printables...
