Next week’s games look great.

I’m such a sucker for artsy games.

Do you want me to tag you next week when I post about the new free games?

lazycouchpotato,
@lazycouchpotato@lemmy.world avatar

Greatly appreciate it, but seeing as I’m chronically online, I don’t think I’ll need it :)

Aside from maybe 1 week, I’ve collected all the Epic freebies.

Wow, I remember playing this waaaaaay back in the day on PC. And then I heard it was coming to the 3ds and got it there.

Gullible, to games in Cave Story+ free on EGS

If you haven’t played it, do it. It is to metroidvanias what Mario is to platformers. Ridiculously influential game.

Iunnrais, to games in Cave Story+ free on EGS

I played the crap out of the original release. Does + offer anything more than higher resolution graphics?

MrScottyTay,

I might be wrong but I think it has a different translation script

it has remastered music aswell iirc

M500, to PCGaming in [Epic Games] Cave Story+ | Free / 100% Off

This is an amazing game. I played it a bunch. My understanding is that this game was made by since Japanese student by himself.

It was a free game, but they remastered it at least once, but I think they did it twice.

It’s a Metroidvania style game.

It has a near mechanic where you’re weapon gets more powerful the longer you go without getting hit.

It’s pretty easy to power up your gun, so it’s not a huge loss if you do get hit. The music is also pretty decent.

The original is free and imo is way better.

DoubleCat,

Care to elaborate pls, why is it better?

bungle_in_the_jungle, to gaming in Caves Story+ free on Epic Games

Calling this the “most well-known indie game of all time” is a hell of a stretch if you ask me.

rikudou,
@rikudou@lemmings.world avatar

Yep, I never heard about it before.

artichoke,

Yup, but when the game launcued in 2004 it was true. These days it definitely isn’t the most well known but back in 2004, cave story was considered a huge success for the indie game scene

TwilightVulpine, to gaming in Caves Story+ free on Epic Games

Amazing game. I'd recommend it for everyone.

aaronstc, to gamedeals in [Epic Games] Cave Story+ | Free / 100% Off

If it’s free on Epic, why are you linking to Steam?

123,

Some people prefer to look at the Steam page for reviews, description, etc.

aaronstc,

That makes sense.

yanyuan, to gamedeals in [Epic Games] Cave Story+ | Free / 100% Off

A repeat, but it’s a good game.
Next week’s SpellDrifter looks like it’s not my cup of tea (Steam link).

sederx, to gaming in Caves Story+ free on Epic Games

duplicate?

The_Hunted_One,
@The_Hunted_One@beehaw.org avatar

Doesn’t appear to be, at least from Beehaw’s perspective. It’s possible you saw another post on a separate instance, as it was crossposted to several instances.

sederx,

Oh no I meant the game was already given for free in the past

SomethingBurger,

Yes, from December 2020.

Shrimpbread, to gaming in Caves Story+ free on Epic Games

Great game, and from my knowledge the publisher screwed over the developer so its not like He’s getting less money for it being free on Epic

Landmammals, to games in Introducing the Epic First Run program

Remember when Epic opened and started a huge astroturfing campaign against Valve for taking 30% commission?

Years later the Epic store is still trash without basic features, and now they are pushing for exclusivity.

Sharpiemarker, (edited ) to gamedeals in [Epic Games] Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak (100% off / FREE)

Has anyone played this? Is it any good or shovelware?

EDIT

Looks like it’s by Gearbox, so it can’t be all bad.

tiberius,
@tiberius@lemmy.ca avatar

Published by Gearbox, Developed by Blackbird Interactive.

Sharpiemarker,

Hmm, Blackbird aren’t on my radar. Is that good or bad?

tiberius,
@tiberius@lemmy.ca avatar

I really like their Hardspace: Shipbreaker. Better hope it’s good because they are creating Homeworld 3.

ryathal, to games in Epic First Run: six-month exclusivity for 100% revenue share for developers

While it requires setting up your on site to take money, Steam has always allowed developers to create keys for free. They can sell or give those away for 100% of the revenue indefinitely.

merthyr1831,

Humble Bundle does pretty much that from what I can tell. Surprised more games don’t come to the humble store
