wahming,

Think most apps have the blocking features, actually.

wahming,

Nobody’s talking about mental health, just their effect on society

wahming,

Would you list these mythical places?

wahming,

Or maybe /strike to indicate it’s over

wahming,

The URL may be dubious, but it’s a fairly standard point it’s making. Criticism of Israel is not antisemitism.

wahming,

Because sample size of n = 1

wahming,

They also had this ridiculous policy of not allowing you to browse their site without an account. I wonder if it actually led to signups. In my case I just got frustrated and blocked the site from search results.

Why are there so many conspiracy theories regarding soy beans?

Dear lemmy, someone very close to my heart is starting to fall into conspiracy theories. It’s heartbreaking. Among other things, he has now told me that soy beans are not supposed to be consumed by human beings and is convinced that despite the literal centuries of human soy bean cultivation and consumption, we shouldn’t eat...

wahming,

I protest, we’re not cannibals. We only eat non-Chinese ‘people’

wahming,

I grew up in Asia, and have heard the same thing there myself. Dumb people are universal.

wahming,

You seem to have it the wrong way around. It’s the regulations that are forcing Facebook to remove news content.

wahming,

Stop being pedantic. It was very clear what the effect of the regulations would be. We’ve seen the same scenario play out previously. The media industry decided to push for it anyway, and pikachusurprisedface when it turned out to bite them on the ass.

wahming,

There’s mods that highlight all interactables in the environment, so such a hidden chest wouldn’t last long

wahming,

Yeah, no story period. Which is good for some people, not so much for others

wahming,

Hence the current policy of not allowing news on Facebook Canada. Guess what, it’s not benefiting anybody.

wahming,

Guess who’s not getting a handjob?

wahming,

I guess the head of Larian Studios needs to resign and get a job at Microsoft, because he said essentially that.

wahming,

Huh. I thought the name sounded familiar, went back and checked my history. Yep, he was trolling a sync thread and getting into arguments over ads a month ago. Some stupid take about better to have no free software than ad supported. Can’t say I’m too surprised to hear this happened.

wahming,

Pretty biased take. The guy WAS toxic, I had dealt with him before. He’d just jump on any comment concerning sync to get on his soapbox, regardless of whether it was relevant. The community’s better off without that nonsense.

wahming,

Interesting read on the history of the suit. The actual purpose is not bear hunting, and is unknown.

wahming,

Seriously, it’s a product for sale. Don’t like the price, vote with your wallet and don’t buy it. What’s with the manufactured outrage for every topic nowadays

wahming,

Yeah, manufactured might have been the wrong word. Pointless? Uncalled for?

wahming,

Because you have the full choice to not buy and support it, if you think the price is unreasonable. It’s not a vital need, and nobody’s forcing customers to buy it. Housing, food, healthcare, we don’t have a choice. Buy or die. A video game? Not so much. The issue is not game publishers overcharging, it’s players who moan and whine… AND THEN BUY IT ANYWAY, thus ensuring the publishers will continue the practice

wahming,

They’re calling it robbery and disrespectful. I’m not seeing where the joke is

wahming,

Because it doesn’t qualify as bullshit. Company made a product, set a price. Either you find it worth the price or not, but either way what’s the reason to kick up a fuss over an optional good

wahming,

? The complaint right now is about the price, not the quality of the product. Are you saying they didn’t know the price when they preordered it?

On a side note, preorders are a scam. If you’re dumb enough to preorder a game in unlimited supply, that’s on you.

wahming,

I’m not saying they knew what they bought, I’m saying it’s on them for choosing to buy before they knew what they were buying. Seriously, people need to take responsibility for their choices already.

wahming,

In this particular case, it’s not on the publisher. The switch is an old console, and there’s only so much they can do with the hardware. It’s not a particularly big surprise to anybody familiar with the technology.

Why SHOULDN’T we hold consumers to task for their bad decisions? They are arguably making things worse for the rest of us, by repeatedly rewarding bad behaviour from companies. There is no good reason for them to preorder, they just had to be the first instead of waiting a day for reviews to appear. Well, if you’re going to be impatient, guess what? The risk is on you.

wahming,

I didn’t suggest fixing it. I said the consumers consciously made a bad decision, and they should take responsibility for it. I’m tired of grown ups acting like kids.

Source if you’re gonna accuse somebody of being a pedo?

wahming,

On which side? Because there’s a ton of things that are infuriating about the whole system. It’s entirely too open to abuse BY BOTH SIDES.

wahming,

What does a lawyer’s reputation have to do with the client? If I need a lawyer, I’m choosing based on affordability and perceived ability, not their politics.

wahming,

You… DON’T see a problem with prejudging a trial based on who the lawyers are?

wahming,

Congratulations, you’ve just proved you don’t understand the basics of the justice system, which is that EVERYBODY IS ENTITLED TO A DEFENSE, WITHOUT PREJUDICE

Do they believe earth is being carried on the back of a flea?

wahming,

If they’d done this right out of the gate, nobody would have thought that is unreasonable.

That’s ridiculous. There’s no technical way they can accurately detect repeat installs on the same device, or pirated copies. Which means devs will pay out the nose for no reason. The outrage exists for a reason

wahming,

It’s NOT based on downloads. Where are you even getting your info from?

wahming,

Here’s the FIRST sentence of your link

Effective January 1, 2024, we will introduce a new Unity Runtime Fee that’s based on game installs.

Here’s the details of how the plan will work a few paragraphs down, again from your link

Once a game passes the revenue and install thresholds, the studio would pay a small flat fee for each install (see the table below).

If that wasn’t clear enough, here’s the pricing table. Notice what it refers to? Hint: It’s not downloads

wahming,

Source that’s not you pulling it out of your ass? Because your own link disagrees with you

wahming,

There is a viable open source competitor, godot. The issue is that for many developers who have invested years into their current project, moving engines midway is a ton of effort that might break them financially.

Unity cancels town hall over reported death threats (www.theverge.com)

The Unity pricing debacle has taken an unfortunate, dangerous turn. In a new report from Bloomberg, the company has reportedly canceled a town hall meeting due to what the publication called credible death threats. According to Bloomberg, Unity CEO John Riccitiello was set to address employees Thursday morning, but the...

wahming,

It was a joke. The dev said if you buy their game, don’t install it. Come over to their house and play it on their computer, they’ll make you some food while you’re at it. Sounds like it’s been decontextualised beyond understanding
