timbuck2themoon,

Grits are mostly a southern thing. That said, they are absolutely awful IMO. I’d sooner try British beans with my breakfast.

timbuck2themoon,

Not sure you can get it other than adb but if nothing else just replace the screen.

timbuck2themoon,

?

Did they? I just got the notification via obtanium so figured I’d share. The title copies right off the URL title.

Edit- you might be right. It says 12 hours ago but the downloads are from 2022.

How Commute Culture Made American Cities Lifeless -- Yet There's Hope (www.youtube.com)

This video outlines some of the relationships between US commuting culture and the perspectives that it’s engendered about the role of the city. The, when compared and contrasted to other nations’ approach to city design and perspectives shows that it’s possible to have a city core that’s more than just a workplace....

timbuck2themoon,

Somehow there’s always a “death spiral” for public transit, especially now as people commute less. But somehow… There never is for roads. We never seem to have enough roads. Funny that.

timbuck2themoon,

One of us…

But honestly, I think you’ll find that a lot of the degooglers and such used to be big Google fans, etc. It’s just you eventually get tired of all their bullshit, constantly tracking and advertising to you, etc. And you realize you might need to pay for those services but you don’t trust a company like Google or meta, etc. To not track you still so…

You eventually move on and then you find new things bit by bit to replace all those services. Some free, some paid. Some amazing, some just OK. But at least you’re happier with some privacy.

timbuck2themoon,

It is but Waze is owned by Google.

timbuck2themoon,

To be honest… I’ve tried them again and still think they’re shit. Not nearly as bad but still not good.

YMMV.

timbuck2themoon,

Graphene is only on pixels but calyx supports at least a few more models including fairphones.

timbuck2themoon,

Did anyone confirm if you can unlock the bootloader on it or not? I know it was up in the air whether they would allow it.

timbuck2themoon,

If you edit files a lot vim is worth its weight in gold. Nano makes me want to kill myself as everything takes so much longer.

Nano is perfectly sufficient for a very rare edit.

timbuck2themoon,

Apple tv sucks anyway. I’d like to remind people that it’s near the end of the mls season and they still have no android mobile app. They actively piss on anyone not totally in line with their ecosystem, etc.

timbuck2themoon,

I’d honestly just stop using YouTube rather than deal with all this crap. Fuck Google

timbuck2themoon, (edited )

I’m really over people calling backups a security risk.

There’s a reason bitwarden, 1password, last pass, etc etc. allow you to export your passwords. They also all allow you to do so in an encrypted file.

Samsung joins Google in RCS shaming Apple (www.theverge.com)

Samsung has released a new video in support of Google’s #GetTheMessage campaign which calls for Apple to adopt RCS or “Rich Communication Services,” the cross-platform protocol pitched as a successor to SMS that adopts many of the features found in modern messaging apps… like Apple’s own iMessage.

timbuck2themoon,

Move on? Hell you could just move back to xmpp when people were using aim, gtalk, trillian clients, digsby, nimbuzz…

Some of us are old enough to remember the golden era.

timbuck2themoon,

Is altering not an option?

timbuck2themoon,

Usually it’s quite cheap, around ten or so bucks here.

Jeez, you can take this a little less personally. It was a suggestion.

timbuck2themoon,

I mean… I figure nearly half of us cities were designed before 1900, to some extent anyhow.

Like st Louis was incorporated in 1822. Plenty of cities were clearly designed before the automobile and then gave up the plot for Robert Moses bullshit.

timbuck2themoon,

Init scripts were simple? Man you haven’t seen a bunch of shitty init scripts then.

timbuck2themoon,

Your last question nails it. Why would you ever trust meta? And without a huge contingent of people going with you, it’d be hard to pay for a new social service that you could potentially believe won’t at all profile you.

timbuck2themoon,

You’re arguing as if wireless audio is somehow better as ps2, etc was replaced by something better.

It’s simply not. You either buy a dumbass dongle or have to charge yet another thing. Along with that you can’t charge and listen to music at the same time without aforementioned dumb wireless ear buds.

It was a money grab, plain and simple. The 3.5 Jack is still monumentally viable and an asset.

timbuck2themoon,

We ever figure out if this can be unlocked? I know it was then it wasn’t, etc.

timbuck2themoon,

Well that’s great because even if they include a jack you guys can all still have that.

timbuck2themoon,

Same. I think it’s worse because a green company should just have this IMO.

timbuck2themoon,

I love proton but I’d rather use SMS every damn day than WhatsApp

timbuck2themoon,

Works for me.

It’s layout isn’t amazing but it’s fine.

timbuck2themoon,

The flatpak works well for me. Always ends up using too much RAM but the latest versions seem to be better about it now.

timbuck2themoon,

For real. I’d rather use shitty SMS than be locked into a meta company.

timbuck2themoon,

Maybe it’s because I’ve only ever used it a couple times but it blows my mind people like the discord ui.

timbuck2themoon,

release.gnome.org/45/developers/index.html

Link to that is here for anyone else who didn’t initially see it.

timbuck2themoon,

Restic has been awesome honestly. I use it with resticprofile too just because I was a bit lazy with it.

timbuck2themoon,

Not an onion headline. Apparently that really is the new name.

timbuck2themoon,

Maybe made gaming desktop viable.

But that does a whole disservice to say desktop in general. Many of us have been running Linux on a desktop for years without issue and thanks to a ton of hard work by devs not employed by steam.

timbuck2themoon,

It’s funny- I use dokuwiki but my only gripe is I wish it was just standard markdown.

timbuck2themoon,

They are fundamentally incompatible. Their blog explains it.

timbuck2themoon,

I really liked jmp but it didn’t at all handle group messages well. When it does I might go back.

timbuck2themoon,

Have they fixed hcaptcha in dendrite? I ran it about a year ago as a test and just had small but frequent issues.

Maybe I’ll blow it away and try again if it’s truly about ready for prod use.

timbuck2themoon,

Do you have more details how you’re doing this? Using a custom executor still?

timbuck2themoon,

Ahh, I had skimmed over and didn’t see you were running it on k8s (so kubernetes executor makes sense. ;) )

This is good to know though. I actually just stood up a podman runner and it is vastly improved over what I had to do even a year ago if I remember. I’ll need to look into Testcontainers though too as we do use that. Good to know it’s at least progressing pretty well. Thanks!

timbuck2themoon,

Yeah and for that convenience you fuck over actual people in the city who need a place to live.

Sorry but fuck airbnb for this.

timbuck2themoon,

Let me put this here so it’s more easily understood- /s

I was being sarcastic to make a point. They are both fine and it’s good that people have choice.

timbuck2themoon,

I didn’t honestly say it was. I was being sarcastic to make a point.

timbuck2themoon,

Ahh ok. Sorry for my confusion then as well! All good here. Have a good one.
