I love bridges. If I see a cool looking bridge, I want to cross it, especially if it goes somewhere that I’m not familiar with. Same with stairs outdoors. They feel like an adventure to me.
I adore mechanical stuff that looks too complicated to comprehend on the first look, old sewing machines, old typewriters, mechanical calculators, knitting machines, clocks and watches, marble tracks etc. I was abysmal in school math, today I’m collecting old mechanical and electronic calculators and slide rules (and use them & show 'em to the kids at schools) Scales and maps are another obsession. Maybe because we were too poor for mechanical toys like Meccano or better Lego technic when I was a kid? Btw I loved the sesame street episode with the what-happens-next-machine as a very young kid. Then again, my wife says I have mild ADHD or something in that direction, idk.
Do you play an instrument? Or just own a flute or harmonica? The turkeys at my wife’s uncle’s place LOVE music, they even sing along. Gobbelgobbelgobbel. Hilarious! There’s a German word,“Truthanschottigkeit” - it means the sudden urge to play the bagpipes for a turkey. …nah, there isn’t, but would be nice if there were, right?!
Pretty much the title. I’ve been watching more realistic super hero shows like The Boys and Invincible. The reoccurring themes is that with great power comes great immorality....
People don’t need super powers for that, it’s so easy. Crack open the way for the ego drug and they do anything. Nobody is immune. The “holier” the person, the easier it is.
When lockdowns were coming to an end, there was an influx of people asking travel related questions on r/france. Something I wish existed at that time was a francophone equivalent to r/VisitingIceland, which is an incredible resource and community when it comes to making your travel plans to Iceland....
Don’t get it. Just drive over there, it’s not that there’s a border of some sorts. About 2 hours on the Autobahn from here (no speed limit btw, could crank my shit box to 166mph if I want it to die soon)
I tried my whole life to get up early, one day I just gave up. Started my own company, bought a house - now I live and work like nature made me. No, I wear clothes, it’s just the sleep. Btw it’s interesting when you’re hiring how many people are like that and love the hours. I can recommend that to every night person.
I rocked a Samsung Alias 2 for 4 years before I got an iPhone 5. The e-ink keyboard was awesome how it changed when you flipped the screen open to portrait or landscape.
I don’t know, the last one was maybe a Motorola clamshell, but from the “old” ones I had a Bosch GSM909, yes, they made phones. Barely usable and horribly expensive to use. But it had a blue 2 line display. A BLUE DISPLAY. Woooooow.
It’s so very interesting, I recently walked into the bank that kicked me out 15 years ago. They actually knew who I was (small town bank where I grew up), they crawled so far into my ass to get me & my company back that day, I could taste their hair styling product. Very satisfying just to say" remember, you kicked me out because of a few bucks over my limit? Yes? Good! Today you learned something. Bye" Pure Bliss. Those assholes. Edit: Germany here.
So I replaced the battery of my Graphing Calculator and my Headphones just recently, and now i’m left with 2 batteries that I don’t how to dispose of....
In Germany I bring them to a “Wertstoffhof” (recycling station), open 24/7, they’re all over the country (not all are 24/7 open, but they are daily open)
I don’t know what the whole fuzz was / is about, it’s years now that I unwillingly watched ads, anywhere. So easy, piehole, newpipe, avoid any Microsoft shit, you just have to be ready to learn a bit, it’s not rocket science. Ok, rocket science helped, but that’s not the point…
Gee, it’s almost like corporations are gouging consumers so badly that their market advantages are being lost due to greed. Inflation this quickly isnt real. I never understood how anybody can eat that crap. One walk through our garden and I have a free meal. If you don’t have a garden, go to your local farmer, it’s dirt cheap. You can even order great meat for a fraction of the supermarket torture stuff. Ah one last thing - get up from your sorry ass & cook.
It’s called “Simpsoning” or “Groening” in the entertaining industry: do something really great, then do it for so long and get worse and worse for so long, that people actually forget that it was great at some point in time.
When we lived in turkey 1982, my father was building a dam, we had a turtle masked “Mathilda”, she loved clover blossoms and wasn’t exactly small. One afternoon my mom had made her toenails with red nail polish. She was sitting there and reading the papers while my father and I were watching the turtle, coming like that picture here veeeery slowly for her toes. What can I say? Turtle bites, mother screams, we laugh, turtle flies, we still laugh, mother curses like a sailor. Turtle ok. Mother not so much.
Suits that actually fit. Does nobody know anymore how a man in a suit is supposed to look? They all think they’re so fashionable, instead they look like they walked with a paper suit through a steam bath. Awful.
Sorry, more public transport works only to an extent, many examples over the world. Germany, for example, makes it kinda hard and hurtfully expensive to even get a driver’s license. Above 2000 Euro and at least a year in the cities. Many just give up. But that’s not the way either. I for myself would simply forbid large SUV and other large vehicles in any denser populated areas, massively support the hydrogen and fuel cell technology, stop listening to the greedy mofos who tell everyone electric cars are the future, they are not in the current state of development, only for short distance deliveries. Movement of any goods on rails, small (electric, hydrogen) vehicles to the shops. More space for bicycles is a way, but it works only to an extent, too.
i’ve grown increasingly, increasingly tired of youtube lately. the exhausting shorts advertised everywhere, overwhelming thumbnails, sensory overload and just generally a really piss poor site. Is there anywhere someone like me can turn to?
On mobile devices have a look on newpipe and libretube, you’ll find them over f-droid or as APK directly. It’s been months since I’ve watched ads. Don’t forget to donate, it’s very easy, even if it’s only one buck, they’re fighting for a good cause.
