porkins,

The solution is to base it upon the user session timer.

porkins,

I see it as a hot tub with a bar top. Kinda cool for hanging out.

porkins,

This isn’t someone stealing food from the grocery store to feed their kids… But it is a topic being overblown for rich people’s benefit.

How is it overblown? It is a real issue with law enforcement in America. People are being permitted to destroy and steal property. We need to get to the root cause of what’s going on their. It’s due to failures on multiple fronts. You can’t just say ignore it because capitalism bad. Capitalism is a founding principle of this country’s economy. You can’t play the card that these people are protesting corruption because others are enriching themselves by stealing goods. That’s not noble in any way and doesn’t help employees.

porkins,

I was the president and founder of my high school’s board game club and I fucking love Stratego. It took me a while to get used to the new numbering system, but I can play that game for hours with the right person.

porkins,

Haven’t gotten any notification messages about it. I don’t think I turned them off either.

porkins,

Venus has similar gravity to Earth. It is just about the same size and density. The atmospheric gasses can be turned into many different kinds of compounds provided enough energy and you could theoretically mine ore from the surface. It is much closer to Earth than mars as well. We recently detected through spectroscopy gasses in the atmosphere that are associated with the byproduct of life, so scientifically, it makes sense to have a science facility above the atmosphere to experiment further. The reality is that it’s more technically achievable to send a facility in orbit around another planet than to build a ground facility. Far less fuel needed. The gases in Venus’s atmosphere might also be able to be used as fuel.

porkins,

A large number of probes have been landed on Venus already throughout the 70’s. They were able to take pictures and measure temperature on the surface for about an hour at most. That was over 50 years ago. I’m sure we are capable of constructing machines that can withstand the conditions for much longer now. In 30 years though we might not even deem that necessary and just capture an asteroid and orbit it around the planet and build the base of operations atop that.

porkins,

And in the darkness bind them…

porkins,

I use Memmy and have a porn account and a non-porn account. On the non-porn account, I block any porn communities that show up in the All feed and eventually I stop seeing them.

porkins,

I forget the name of this game, but remember liking it a lot.

porkins,

Cool. Memmy is the best, but what is the purpose of a native kbin integration if it’s already federated? Are we able to view and not post or comment?

porkins,

To my understanding, a network switch will relay your MAC address, so it’s sounding like that is what your range extender is. You would need an actual wireless router. You could get a wireless mesh router pair, so you have both a new wifi and range extending. I’d then disable the wifi on your main router. It sounds like they make you use your ISP’s router, but it’s also worth trying to disconnect that and plugging your new router direct into the modem instead to see if you need the ISP router at all. Also, you’d need to whitelist the new device with the ISP.

porkins,

Conspiracy theory nonsense?

How is this nonsense?

According to a review by the HHS, the facility in China’s Wuhan, where Covid is said to have first emerged, has violated biosafety protocols and is not complying with US regulations.

They disregarded bio safety regulations.

The lab, located in the city where the Covid pandemic is believed to have begun, has faced intense scrutiny due to its reported security lapses and over research that has been carried out on bat coronaviruses.

Specifically COVID research.

Intelligence officials of the Joe Biden administration have been pushed by lawmakers to release more material about the origins of Covid. But they have repeatedly argued that China’s official obstruction of independent reviews has perhaps made it impossible to determine how the pandemic began.

China is conspiring in obstruction per the top leaders of the land.

porkins,

Are you questioning the factuality of The Independent as a news source or did you fail to read the article? The claims of safety regulation lapses and Chinese obstruction are coming from the Biden administration directly. Are you indicating that they are fraudulent?

porkins,

The article is this post

porkins,

The article is the very post we are commenting on. Also, here is something else.

porkins,

This does not negate the HHS claims that the lab was being negligent and unsafe.

porkins,

Ketchup and MSG are the secret ingredients in my marinara sauce. I go as far as to use proper other ingredients likes San Marzano tomatoes, fresh basil, and garlic, but I am fairly certain that my special additions to the recipe improve it. I’ve been told never to utter this to an Italian mother.

porkins,

Just standard Heinz works fine. Only a squirt or two seems to round off the flavors, giving just a hint of sweetness. Heinz ketchup is intentionally well balanced through countless trials with consumers. The exact proportions are super proprietary. People shouldn’t use any other brand because no one has invested nearly as much in getting the formulation correct. I don’t understand what you mean by not knowing what Marinara sauce is.

porkins,

Marinara is the most basic of Italian sauces. It is the red sauce on pizza and the default for most pastas at standard Italian restaurants in the US. I’d be surprised if you couldn’t find it in Italy since it isn’t like how Americans take a food like tacos and completely alter the original recipe. Sure, they make all varieties of jarred marinara in the grocery store where some are much better quality than others, but the basis is pretty much tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, salt, pepper, oregano, basil and something to add sweetness like letting a carrot stew in it, adding sugar, or a squeeze of ketchup per my shortcut. Most recipes call for whole canned San Marzano tomatoes that are crushed while you simmer the sauce. This allows for a nice chunky consistency. The olive oil is always supposed to be the best you can find, so extra virgin olive oil works since you aren’t really cooking it at sauté-level heat.

porkins,

I privatized my predatory government loan and am getting no handouts because I made the fiscally responsible decision. Only irresponsible people get relief. How fair is that?

porkins,

Not a fair comparison at all. Polio can’t resurrect the dead and fix its past mistakes. The government can. I paid the predatory rate for years before getting smart about it. It kept me from generating wealth and drove me deeper into debt due to the lack of free cash flow. The government made its money back on my loan and was just profiting off of me for years to come. Not a fair system. When they said the loans would turn on again the first time, I pulled the trigger on a lower interest private loan. The damage was already done though. They owe me a check if everyone else gets money wiped away.

porkins,

It’s the truth. I went from a nearly 8% interest government loan that was presented to me as a normal thing to do and something that I would be able to afford with a good job to a 3% private loan. I should have done it years earlier, but didn’t really know any better until the government took much more money than the loan was worth. The system is fucked.

porkins,

Yes. The 8% interest rate on them was brutal as well.

porkins, (edited )

That isn’t really a winning move either honestly. At least I dropped my interest rate 5%. The problem is that any scenario trying to provide relief is heavy-handed and doesn’t consider all circumstances. Just because I am in a better place now doesn’t negate the damage that was done by not being able to pay much of my principal for many years due to the predatory 8% interest rate. They do need to make it up to people who realized that turning the loans back on and only helping some people was going to screw over the rest. I found some relief, but it was after being swindled by my government for almost 10 years and still having just about the full amount of my loan left to pay off. They sell you on the idea that higher education will land you a job that can pay the loans off in no time, but that really wasn’t the case. I’ve finally gotten to a good salary, but had to endure unnecessary financial constraints. Definitely not having kids. Can’t afford that for sure. If we are going to provide welfare, better not pick and choose poorly. I’d argue that providing me with more free cash flow is better than someone with a low income job. We shouldn’t subsidize lack of motivation or irresponsible procreation by people that can’t afford it. The idea that someone without a job can have kids and get welfare for it and I can’t get that same benefit due to my salary so can’t have kids is sickening. I’d be more interested in UBI for all than fucking over people by playing favorites with taxpayer money. I am not a charity.

porkins,

In a manner-of-speaking. The government can correct its past mistakes and make people whole again.

porkins,

The government loan was predatory. Was too young to understand the implications of the decision and had no baseline data to judge other than some examples that they provided as to what the salary expectations of someone coming out of the school would be and how long it would take to pay off the loan based upon that. Lo and behold, the government examples were totally unreasonable. The whole thing was a scam by the government in cahoots with higher institutions. Universities are extremely expensive because they know the government will fund the loans. I would have rather the government said no to me than offering a loan that was the equivalent of taking on 100k in credit card debt. People that say that the government protects you by taking their loans are full of it. The government makes sure their loans supersede bankruptcy. You are right that everyone’s circumstances are different. I do feel that certain people are less deserving in the same way you feel that I am. The only thing that would be fair is to treat everyone equally. Fiscal liberals want equity over equality and that’s kind of annoying because it creates classes of people. If we go that route, expect there to be criticism that some classes are not as worthy. I don’t agree with that, but if you are not going to treat everyone equally, then let’s have fun deciding who is worthy enough of my tax money. In my opinion people who pop out babies with no remorse shouldn’t get handouts.

porkins,

Agreed. This is clickbait. They want people to think that they kicked off the fat passengers.

porkins,

If it were in the center, everyone would need to walk around it. This is more efficient for the foot traffic.

porkins,

Was definitely a rockets kid. I always wanted to go to space camp. Still do and I’m almost 40.

porkins,

How do you query the database?

porkins,

The devs hold extreme political views. They are on board with the Tiananmen Square massacre being necessary and shit like that. Like this post says though, there are plenty of instances that are totally run by normal people. Additionally, the Lemmy server code is open source, so that helps to ensure that it isn’t doing anything nefarious behind-the-scenes.

porkins,

In the lead developer’s GitHub, he sympathizes with Marxism including those that committed atrocities.. He apparently censors lemmy.ml with this in mind. Since it is open source though, I can trust that other instances might be better maintained. There is no way I’ll use any personal information in my signup because this all probably is going to China.
