papalonian,

I’ll never not overspend on a PSU. I’ve always looked at it as: every time I turn on my PC there’s a chance it’ll explode. Why increase that chance to save $100?

papalonian,

I guess I should clarify what I meant, since you’re the second person to point this out to me (no fault to you, I wasn’t clear).

I’ll always pay for high quality in a PSU, even for non-critical systems. My main PC, home server, and shit box emulator machine on integrated graphics app run the same PSU, only the main PC is a higher wattage.

An old friend bought an RGB PSU in like 2018 despite my best advice. I wonder how it’s holding up… bought the first of my three PSUs two years prior to that and still pushing electrons like new

papalonian,

You’re right, the PSU doesn’t care how much money I spent on it.

But a shitty $50 no name PSU is probably gonna blow up before the $150 unit from a solid company with a well established history of quality parts

I’m not saying more expensive PSUs are better, I’m saying that better PSUs tend to be more expensive. Obviously that exploding PSU from a few years ago isn’t better than a cheaper one simply because it cost more.

Never thought “I buy good stuff i have confidence won’t blow up” would be such a controversial take

papalonian,

How many screen taps does it take to scan your food and send it to the microwave vs typing in the time like normal?

papalonian,

How would a long bendy applicator help with this?

papalonian,

Brennan Mulligan has entered the chat

papalonian,

Is it simply a requirement to have Shart/ the party healer rock the Blood of Lathander? She got it on my first group playthrough, then my Pally/Bard got it, and now my Wiz/Cleric.

It doesn’t even give any kind of healer buffs (besides getting downed and healing nearby allies) and yet every time I get it it goes right to the nearest support character

How often do you use "AI" to reply to your messages, if at all?

The recent chat bot advances have pretty much changed my life. I used to get anxiety by receiving mails and IMs, sometimes even from friends. I lost friendships over not replying. My main issue being that I am sometimes get completely stuck in a loop of how to formulate things in the best way to the point of just abandoning the...

papalonian,

Um, don’t you know this is Lemmy? You’re supposed to be insanely protective over all aspects of your privacy. If I found out that someone copy/ pasted a tidbit of a conversation I was in after stripping all personal info from it into an LLM, I’d change my name, forge my birth certificate to alter my DOB, move states (twice), get a new phone number and shoot that person in the face. It’s the only way to keep the government or corpos from spying on my very secret very important conversations.

papalonian,

I leave it in for too long because you’re supposed to let it sit and warm the whole thing evenly.

Then I forget about it until it’s a little too cold.

papalonian,

The moon lander is great. It’s my favorite set. I also have the ISS and Thanos’s infinity gauntlet. But the lander was crazy fun to build

papalonian,

Gonna say they probably don’t if they’re consistently getting kicked out of groups

papalonian,

Yeah… there’s a good number more than that. Hag’s lair is another one, moonrise towers towards the end of the act, Wyrm’s Crossing after the Iron Throne…

papalonian,

Or maybe the lich is just an asshole and wants them to keep looking

papalonian,

What else would she call her…?

papalonian,

I’m in the top 0.5% of J. Cole listeners, who has 44.6M listeners monthly

papalonian,

I wish I could suspend my disbelief in videogames as well as I can for movies and TV shows.

“Is this the bad guy?”

" ‘Bad guy’? No! I’m simply a highly regarded mentor figure with a mysterious past who -”

“Alright this guy’s gonna betray me”

papalonian,

Haha, I love this guys’ videos. Spot on.

papalonian,

You can list 100 other forms of tracking if you’d like to, but the point the person is trying to make is they specifically don’t want tracking on their exact purchases.

Buy something on a credit card and the CC company knows exactly what you bought, where you bought it, when you bought it etc. Unless you’re a really high profile target, no company is going out of their way to get all that info when you buy something in cash.

Your argument basically amounts to “why would anyone put a lock on their front door when someone can climb their fence, smash a window and climb through?”

papalonian,

to make lame excuses about stupid shit like using cash

I don’t think anyone is making (or needs) an “excuse” to use cash. They’re simply stating why they do it and for some reason you feel the need to explain how they’re somehow “wrong”.

I swear, people on this website will try to convince you that your favorite flavor of ice cream is wrong.

papalonian,

Really depends. I have two cards that basically show me a receipt when I view the details of the transaction

papalonian,

I’d like to second the large flash drive idea. You can get a couple of them and a case to keep them in for less than $50 total and have multiple layers of redundancy

papalonian,

but if your character isn’t trained in intimidation,

How does one “train in intimidation”? The 20 str dragonborn barbarian with a giant halberd on his back needs to write sentences to learn how to look scary? Will they be taught by their 8 str gnome bard with a flower in his hair how to show someone he means business?

papalonian,

Can’t believe I’m the first in the thread to say I grow that shit myself

papalonian,

Yeah, where I live it’s legal to grow (with some restrictions) so I was able to just go to a dispensary to get clones. It won’t be quite as easy for you, but assuming you’re getting your weed from “a guy”, depending on your relationship with them you could start by asking them if they know any growers and if they could hook you up with clones or seeds.

In terms to equipment, it really depends on how fancy you want to get with it. You can look up equipment guides online, but honestly I would start with just the bare minimum and see what you need as you go. You’ll develop your own growing style and find out what kind of tools you need to implement it; you don’t need every single tool available for growing.

If you have any hydroponic stores in your area, chances are it’s ran by a bunch of stoners who know that 99% of people shopping there are growing weed. Stop by there and see what’s up; you can say you’re growing tomatoes if you don’t feel comfortable saying you’re growing weed

papalonian,

You can grow outside, but it depends on the climate. I’m from the US in a region that’s very well known for being great for growing bud outdoors.

Try looking up outdoor growing for Germany, specifically in the area you live. Not only the weather, but the soil and amount of daylight/ night time they get matters too. During the first part of the grow, your plants need at least 16 hours of sunlight, and at the end during flowering you need as close to 12 hours sunlight and 12 hours dark as possible.

papalonian,

I’ve never understood the “all the notifications!” arguments. This community is filled with Linux enthusiasts who redesign OS’es for aesthetic pleasure, you guys can’t turn off notifications from apps you don’t want notifications from?

papalonian,

Smart watches do a lot more than just deliver notifications. Control music, send/ receive calls and texts (you absolutely can type with ease, at least I was able to on mine), calculator, smart assistants (Google / Siri), GPS. The list goes on.

Also, I said to disable notifications you don’t want.

papalonian,

That’s fantastic. A smartwatch can too. They’re used for different situations.

People can try to show off how much smarter than everyone else they are by trying to “prove” the smart watches are useless, but fact of the matter is tons of people find use out of them so it’s kind of a pointless argument.

papalonian,

A smart watch doesn’t bring anything of value for people like me.

That’s completely fine. But why feel the need to try to convince everyone that they should feel the same? If I see someone using something I personally wouldn’t use I’m not gonna try to tell them “oh my XYZ can do that”, “wow why don’t you just use a XYZ?”, “seems pointless when you can just blah blah blah”.

It happens whenever done interesting new thing comes out, there’s people that use the thing, and people that don’t and make sure everyone knows why.

papalonian,

There’s dragonborn in d&d too, but they’re quite different than those in Skyrim

papalonian,

Except for when it’s like the one plan I made that I was actually looking forward to

Just gives me confirmation bias that I shouldn’t make plans

papalonian,

because 2 out of every 7 Novembers tends to have a fifth Thursday.

Hey, including this one!

papalonian,

That’s how people feel about the idea proposal in your meme, lol

ETA I agree the two party is stupid but unfortunately getting “everyone to start voting third party” has never worked every time it’s brought up

papalonian,

There’s a breakfast joint near my place that has amazing hollandaise sauce. The meal I normally order comes with eggs and an English muffin, I order a side of the sauce and make my own eggs Benedict to go with my main meal.

papalonian,

I wonder if there was a moment where he was like, “oh haha, very funny guys. Sure it just crashed into the WTC, totally.”

papalonian,

Al Qaeda: “HAHA OH SHIT I GOT YOU GOOD YOU FUCKER”

papalonian,

Yup. Guilty as charged. If I need two pages and I’ve got like 1 3/4 of a page, I’ll copy/ paste my entire report into chatgpt and ask it to make it a little longer. Then go through the changes, modify the bits I like and cut out the parts I don’t.

Sue me.

papalonian,

Exactly. Last 2 years of highschool all of my major writing classes understood this and didn’t have minimums, just write as much as you think it’s necessary to cover your topic.

Most of my college courses have a minimum and maximum. Like they want to read exactly 2-3 pages per student. Annoying.

papalonian,

Invites 10 people over (but he has no friends) then proceeds to start making out with one of them in front of the other 9. Solid

papalonian,

I asked my chem professor this question last semester. He said that single molecules are considered gases.

papalonian,

Yup. The way he explained it was that it is technically a free flowing substance that is “expanding” to “fill” the container it is in. The density would be impossibly low, but the entire container would be said to be filled with the molecule

papalonian,

But this is also why Kbin is the best technology, combining both platforms.

Can you explain this a little further? I was on kbin originally, but jumped to Lemmy after boost came out. From what I’ve seen they’re more or less the same experience, but I’m not super educated on the intricacies of the Fediverse

papalonian,

Reading this, it’s clear that you’re much more familiar with the series than I am and probably know what is found in “good” Mario games better than I do. But I really enjoyed Super Mario Galaxy on the original Wii when it came out, I was maybe 11 or 12 and sunk tons of hours into it and have been getting the itch to replay it since I have All Stars on my switch.

I’ve also heard nothing but good things about Odyssey (still haven’t played it despite owning the game)

papalonian,

I don’t know anything about Tor and at this point I’m too afraid to ask.

papalonian,

I still know incredibly little about the Tor browser and how it works, but I appreciate your response!

I guess I don’t understand what the difference is between using the Tor browser and just using a VPN. I’ve also got very little idea what a “node” is so that’s probably my issue haha.

papalonian,

That brought things down to understandable levels for me. Thanks! Think I’ve got a grasp on it and kind of considering getting it myself.

papalonian,

You keep saying that like it’s some god awful thing that someone is putting content into a community… If the posts are in line with the community, why does it make a difference if one person posts 30 times, or 30 people post once?

When people see a community they’re interested in, they’ll often go to that specific community and browse the content posted. If it’s a newer community with like 4 posts, the user isn’t likely to join/ subscribe. But if they have a page or two of relevant content they can make a better decision on if they want to stay.

papalonian,

I’m finding this way funnier than I should, thanks
