Spam calls and texts are driving me fing crazy anyone have suggestions?

After repeated data breaches that no company really seems to give a s— about my phone is blowing up with literally hundreds of spam calls and texts month. I get and make MAAAAYBE 2 or 3 important calls per month, 180-200 of the rest are literally all spam. Anyone have any suggestions, apps ect that they have found refuge with?...

I like it too but I wish they would stop harrasing you with their database update, it’s so annoying!

New phone with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus: should I still buy a screen protector? (www.corning.com)

Basically the title, I received a new price with a significant price tag (at least for me). My previous ones I didn’t care much so they weren’t protected. Given that I’d like to keep this one in good shape I’d like to know your experiences: does it still make sense to buy screen protectors nowadays? If so, also on newer...

@Varyk @Thatuserguy @nottheengineer Thanks for your feedback lemmings, I think I’ll get one screen protector then, what are your recommendations?

I don’t want to use decimals in my everyday life

Don’t you use decimals for prices already?

I feel very stupid but isn’t OpenAI in Microsoft’s portfolio already? What’s really at stake?

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

This. It’s such a great service that it’s almost too good to be true. And damn they are fast

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

any Death Grips fans here?

Totally, and I miss them a lot!

I don’t know where you live but living single = paying the rent alone and that can be expensive. But childfree is good for your budget and also for the planet 👍

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

I agree sadly most of the content is there already

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

That’s true, and I believe it was to lure people from using Windows computer / make the switch. I almost forgot that they charged it at some point though, it brings back memories!

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

Can we can that one synced without having to pay something?

I remember that the only workaround available was something like folder setup on mobile which in turn had to be synced with another app in order to ensure WebDAV sync for instance.

Needless to say that this is really inefficient.

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

Thanks, I will have a look at this. I assume you didn’t ran into any sync issues since you started using this, right?

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

Quick heads up: I tried to setup the plugin for a Nextcloud WebDAV service I use and couldn’t succeed to a misconfig on the server side or a bug in the plugin. That’s too much of a hassle to switch, if someone has a better option please chime in.

@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

At the same time I hear you but still I feel like it’s still not acceptable to release half done or poorly optimized products and hope that they’ll be done over time. For those who pay for the product it’s almost an insult.

@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

What is the benefit of using this instead of Signal?

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

You can scan its content without getting thrown into trouble, I use an app like SecScanQR which returns the raw content of the QR code, that helps to assess if you’re getting into fishy stuff.

I’m Swiss but I reply because that’s an interesting topic 👍

Yeah please ride on the bike lane, I’m shocked to see how many people ride their e-scooters on the sidewalk

I’m a bit surprised by this, looking at common recommandations for PC laptops Lenovo is mentioned 90% of the time then alternative manufacturers like frame.work. What would be your recommandation then?

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

Thanks for sharing your experiences! My girlfriend has to buy a laptop soon and that definitively helps!

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

Thanks, I seriously considered getting one but their supply is still limited and I can’t get one in my country :/

I self host a few docker Apps, like Vaultwarden, Linkding and Paperless ngx

I do a Clonezilla image on an old 3.5’’ drive from time to time, most of my documents are stored on the cloud so I’m pretty safe in terms of ‘uptodateness’

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

Yes absolutely, and they are even stored on my own NAS 👌

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

I mostly use MacOS, my biggest gripe is how they are gradually making the whole thing look like your iPhone. I found it impossible to justify. It’s basically dumbing down the UI.

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

This is the only thing that I’ve been missing on Signal, that’s great news!

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

What’s so wrong with it?

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

We both agree that everyone should have its own distro, I’m on Pop_OS most of the time, but I used Manjaro for a while and I didn’t notice many instabilities… but well I’m a very average user!

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

Thanks, sadly I don’t have this and I stream directly from my own NAS via SMB / NFS / AFP

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

Do they puke often? Mine does maybe 4 times a week and I’ve been wondering if I should worry :/

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

Thank you, I’ll keep an eye on this!

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

Thank you for sharing your experience, I’ll definitely keep an eye on this and count the undigested food that it rejects.

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

I’m glad to read this, I’m on the same situation but sadly mine doesn’t snap that well anymore :/

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

Does someone know what service do they use to translate pages?

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

Thank you, I’ll have a look at this. I’m very impressed!

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

I agree, in the meantime I updated my browser and it worked impressively well for a new feature. I find it fast. Glad to have this implemented offline too. Nice addition to my favorite browser! 👍

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

Thank you for your quick answer, I understand! If that’s something deliberate I’ll abide and that’ll do.

Have a nice day!

  1. laziness / Convienence of not having to click after every load
  2. thank you but I was referring to the desktop interface / browsing

What’s so great on vim for the average Joe which isn’t offered by nano?

Does anyone else act more 'human' when solving captchas?

Whenever I have to do a captcha where you must select all tiles with bicycles, I know I can just click through super fast, but I feel like that might make the website suspicious, so I purposefully slow down like “Geez, this is a melon-scratcher!” or click and then unclick a tile like “whoops, silly me, thats an umbrella...

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

How? I’m interested too and that would be a great revenge on all the time I lost doing those

37, Switzerland, and I can drive a manual as much as I enjoy an automatic from time to time. The former is still the most common type of transmission even though the trend has been reversing over the years.

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

That’s a lot mate, how many weeks off can you get with this per year?

nameisnotimportant,
@nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml avatar

Orion

Thanks for the tip! Do you know any similar solution like this for iOS? I’m struggling to find a fully featured browser with decent ad-blocking capacity.

I’m on Connect which has been wonderful so far but I look forward to Boost as well given that it was my client when I was on Reddit.
