malamignasanmig,

agree. every time Linux games are mentioned in a thread, i always bring up 0AD. great design and soundtrack.

malamignasanmig,

i was like, why is an ostrich riding a bike? and why are the people at the back not happier with it?

malamignasanmig,

very well said. you perfectly explained how it feels when every decision you make ‘will not make a difference anyway’. some would say, isnt that indifference; i would argue no, more like helplessness and hopelessness. how much mental energy are you going to spend on someone continents away when you can barely survive in your own society.

malamignasanmig,

though i disagree with their sentiment, i sort get their example. it is not about practical need, but more of the object’s perceived value. the qran is valuable to its believer as much as food is to the starving. that was not a ridiculous comparison.

malamignasanmig,

and that is where conflict comes from. some value an imaginary god while others do not. it is idiotic to you, but not to them. again, i was not defending the idea, just the other commenter’s example.

malamignasanmig,

i first considered this when maps.me went to shreds. for a while, i used both organic maps and osmand for my cycling trips. the cleaner interface of organic maps won me over. my main gripe at that time was the absence of a route import function. the dev team added that recently. now, i can import both kml and gpx formats.
now, if there is a way to save the in-app planned routes, that would be a huge help.

malamignasanmig,

last i used it, it became a slow, resource-hogging, ad-riddled, bloated mess.

malamignasanmig,

that’s the joke, man. that’s the joke!

malamignasanmig,

thanks for this very exhaustive list. this is the first time ive heard of sewer divers - with no PPE - sounds terrible.

malamignasanmig,

smell-wise, theyre incomparable. mine got holes after 2 years. good longevity when my other socks’ elasticity are gone after a few months of use.

malamignasanmig,

shoes. though not technically expensive because i buy them used (they are expensive when bought new).
cheap shoes will hurt your feet, are easily damaged, and not repairable. the cheapest shoes i had lasted 2 weeks. leather ones can last years with proper care and resole.

bamboo socks. they have better odor resistance than cotton ones.

getting sick of my cheap earphones, on the hunt for a php500-1000 corded earphone.

malamignasanmig,

my first foray with linux was Xubuntu. transferred to MX Linux since but stayed with xfce. looking into having a go with xfce Debian. so satisfied with this DE, am not even tempted to try others.

malamignasanmig,

how the ios apps rendered this extra long image:
memmy: cannot zoom (cannot read it)
lift off: okay zoom, horizontal stretch
thunder: limited zoom, horizontal stretch
voyager: okay zoom, no distortion

malamignasanmig,

in my country too. and whats irritating is that most businesses and government services use it too . instead of, you know, improving their websites?

When was the last time a dream made you feel genuinely happy, and what was it about?

About 3 years ago I dreamt that I was in a downtown Chicago office interviewing for a fancy new job. For whatever reason my mom came along for the interview and was patiently waiting for me in the office lobby. About half way through the interview it began to dawn on me that my mom passed away over a decade ago. This realization...

thanks, OP. that was such a nice read.
mine is: having dinner with the woman i loved. we sat beside each other and talked the night away. it was punctuated by laughter and every word just seemed right.
reality is we dont talk anymore.

malamignasanmig,

for a moment there i thought you were referring to the Karen population of northern Thailand. great post, this is indeed an unpopular opinion.

malamignasanmig,

im using memmy and thunder. i would like to try the other apps on my ogse but they all require the latest iOS. i also like pixelfed but could only browse it using pixeldroid in android because of the same reason.
if its not unreasonably difficult, i hope devs will consider compatibility with older systems as some of us are not using the latest iphones.

malamignasanmig,

i sort of get them, actually. as a nontech person who shifted to Linux out of necessity, i just wanted it to work.
i dont have to imagine not knowing what a kernel module because i still dont, despite using it for years.

malamignasanmig,

interesting. i actually prefer the carousel over the old system.
i agree with you, for a lot of routes, the carousel system requires more walking and jeepney transfers (case in point: Philcoa to Makati). but what i like about it is that i can get on and off from it safely. indeed, it is just similar to the mrt- which may also be a plus to some of us.
rather than remove the carousell, why not plan for additional bus routes that will cater to other commuter-heavy areas?
qc has started on it. i have tried their libre buses and they were nice. they had bus stops and each bus had a map that showed the stop locations. pity there are only a few of them and they have no fixed schedule.

malamignasanmig,

agree, especially your point about lack of planning. while i concur that the carousel should not be scrapped because it benefits many, sana naman magkalong-term plan na sila for more bus stops that are not associated/dependent on malls. not necessarily part of the carousel system pero dapat connected. pwede naman ipagsama yun, more bus stops and commuter safety, if the govt really wants it. but this is not a priority for our car-flaunting public officials because it does not benefit them much.
one of the things i hope i get to witness in my lifetime is a Taipei/Singapore-level public transpo here in the metro pero malabo na mangyari.

malamignasanmig,

appreciate the fervor. but yeah, we have a long way to go. our mass transport system is something i did not really pay attention to, thinking that these problems always come with big cities. only after i have witnessed the commuter-friendliness of the mass transit in Taipei and Singapore did i appreciate how much different it could be.
also, government implementation should go hand in hand with change in commuter habits (ayaw talaga maglakad ng karamihan. magagalit pa sa driver kung hindi pababain sa alanganing lugar).

malamignasanmig,

i get you. yung comment ko na yun, makikita mo lang kung palagi kang nagjijeep. hindi naman kasi ginagawa yun sa mga bus drivers. i have stopped counting the number of rude passengers that demanded to be dropped off in illegal/inconvenient spots because they cant be arsed to walk for 1 minute. i feel bad for the manong jeepney drivers sometimes kasi tatarayan o mumurahin pa sila.
agree: this is one of the worse cultural imports we got from the US.

malamignasanmig,

as someone who has not learned anything about Malaysia lately, may i ask you to elaborate?

malamignasanmig,

which is also the common sentiment among those who responded to the question, according to the article

malamignasanmig,

sa mga nagpopost ng videos, baka pwede idaan sa piped or one of the invidious instances instead na youtube link. example: palitan ng yewtu.be and youtu.be sa url. would really appreciate this, nagtatry kasi ako iwasan ang youtube.

sa comments kasi, i can copy the video url and edit it after pasting sa safari. pero sa post, i cant copy the url, nago-automatic play sa youtube.

(hindi ko napapansin kapag nasa android ako because of newpipe. am trying out ios apps at the moment and unfortunately, walang newpipe equivalent)

maraming salamat.

malamignasanmig,

ako naman, si ee cummings. who not only avoided capitalization, but also apostrophes. kaya andami kong comments na grammatically incorrect (eg s vs 's).
also not a gen z.
mas icky sa akin yung pinipilit gumamit ng fancy words kahit hindi akma sa gusto iparating.
