The DV cam footage leaked not too long after the lossy .3gp-quality ones. The quality is better although Katrina Halili is still unrecognizable, which begs the question why she had to go around telling the world it was her. Yes, the scandal is named after her, but the other vids also claimed to be of other actresses (Mariana del Rio daw yung Brazilian, Bianca Araneta naman yung isa) too.

I’m a huge fan of artistic freedom, and it allowed works like Piss Christ and The Devils to exist, albeit not without scandal. The latter has yet to have an uncut print to this day.

That said, I also think everyone should be accountable for their actions. Alam mo naman na catholic country ito and that people react harshly (but not as extreme as Muslims) to slights towards their religious icons, but you still did it anyway. Mideo Cruz, Carlos Celdran, Dolphy when Father Jejemon came out, the girl who wrote “I can do all things through ME who strengthen ME”, are just some people off the top of my head that drew flak for their actions. Although dressing Jesus in drag has never been done before and is arguably worse.

Gusto mo maging edgy, fine. But don’t pretend to be a victim sabay taunt pa na “sige lang damihan nyo pa”.

This is why I stopped making jokes about religion on social media. To be clear I’m not an atheist or being blasphemous, it’s just that dark humor works when it offends. Ayun, offend it did. Dami ko friends and coworkers that ended up unfollowing and ignoring me or halatang may tension. It’s not for me to say na mababaw sila. I had a choice to pick other jokes and I chose religion. I had a choice to set it to “Only Me” but I didn’t. I take ownership for it and have no ill will. I just kept my jokes to private tweets moving forward.

Buti hindi kaagad ako kumuda nung kumalat viral video na yun, haha. Turns out nasa Mindanao raw si Sara the whole time.

The cop also said “VP” so it could probably be VP of a company, or he meant VIP.

I think the moral lesson here is that, as much of a prick Sara is and how this isn’t within the realm of what she would do, we still need to be critical of any tweet or video we see that isn’t from a reputable source.

On a related note, the problem with complex passwords is that it doesn’t apply to old people. Not only are they computer illiterate and memory-challenged, they’re typically the ones with plenty of money.

This was Raffy Tulfo’s main gripe. The PCSO lawyer/spokesperson explains that 1) it’s only a test run to check if it’s viable, and 2) the pandemic showed that they need to think of alternative ways to generate revenue in case people are not allowed to venture to lotto outlets.

Despite this, Tulfo just kept on yelling and talking over her with his “PaAnO aNg MgA oUtLeT” tirade, lmao.

In fairness, ang galing nung troll army. Mukha talagang organic. Saw one of their posts on the FB group “Manila Furniture Buy and Sell” asking if ACASA (her furniture business) is a scam because they haven’t delivered her orders for months now. Maggie herself replied and said they were looking into the backlog seriously. Then a day later, it’s allegedly the ex trying to make a mountain out of a molehill.

The government has been trying to phase out jeepneys for many years now because of “ThE eNviRoNmEnT” but isn’t actually doing anything realistic to help them with the transition. The new jeeps cost about 2.8 million pesos ($50k) and it’s literally impossible for a driver to pay for that with their earnings.

Jeepney drivers combat this move by staging protests and threatening to not go on trips for days to a week, and the government gets cold feet and postpones the plan. The government then revisits this months later without a better solution and the drivers obviously would be still against it, and the cycle continues.

The next “we’re serious!” date is December this year, and drivers that couldn’t afford it, will be trained for other jobs instead… but how they’re going to do that is a mystery because they don’t have the budget for trainings or even the personnel.

This is just a quick Cliff’s Notes. There are other factors in play like drivers being forced to sign with co-ops that would shoulder the payment for the new jeeps for now and the driver pays through them. BUT there’s also an option for you to keep your rickety jalopy jeep just as long as you sign with a co-op, which is weird because isn’t the point of the phase out to get rid of old jeeps? Hence, the whole argument that this is just ultimately capitalism preying on the poor.

I rode EV jeepneys back in 2018 daily while I was still working a desk job. While they’re certainly more environment-friendly, convenient (I can finally put my Beep card to good use), and retained the aesthetics of traditional jeep (contrary to the incorrect criticism that the look is going extinct), it’s actually quite nightmarish as a commuter during rush hours.

Since drivers still generate profit by hitting their “boundary,” the age-old problem of jeepneys stuffing their vehicles more than the ideal capacity is still rampant. This is twice as problematic with e-jeeps because windows are kept closed due to the AC. So, it’s tight and there’s little to no airflow. To make things worse, drivers also try to save fuel by turning the AC low.

Basically, if the government wants jeepney drivers to roll with modernization, they need to address the elephant in the room, and that’s their daily wage. They’re not going to upgrade their jeep unless the financing options make sense. They’re not going to agree to a fixed salary (another part of the modernization program) because they make way more money with the current system that incentivizes ferrying more passengers. Government never addresses any of these issues and just trots around the same old “ThE enVirOnMeNt” talking point that other Filipinos parrot, as if they enjoy driving a smoke-belching, gas-guzzling heavy steel tank.

I said before that De Leon’s constant jokes about death is dark humor and intended to provoke, so I’m not bothered by this.

But at the same time, our society has progressed already that suicide and death are no laughing matter for some people. Joey, being an old relic, just isn’t cut for the world anymore and refuses to read the room and adapt.

Some places have their own “weird” delicacy that throws people off. Dogs in Yuan, maggot cheese in Sardinia, undeveloped ducks or stewed frogs in the Philippines, and so on. So, I’m not going to knock this at all.

Tbf, I’ve read about this as a teen a long time ago (GQ) and was fascinated by the irony of having the guinea pig in a cartoony sketch on the wrapper while seeing their corpse through the plastic.
