I looked at LBRY for a while, but it kinda looked like the "trashy tabloid" section of the internet.

There should be a horror spin off with Willie Wonka long gone, the Chocolate factory abandoned, and Oompa Loompas going feral. A group of young adults exploring the abandoned factory come to realize that, every time they hear the "Oopa Loompa Song", one in their group is doomed. They lyrics of the verse provide clues as to who it's going to be.

Palia is brand new (still in open Beta) It's more focused on low-key crafting/farming and community, but opportunities to socialize are there.
;
Guild Wars 2 is my favorite "no subscription required" MMORPG that could work for you (but you have that one).
.
ESO Online is my favorite "subscription" MMO and I've met people there.
.
FFXIV is decent for socializing but, the hard-core gamers can stress you out. Works best if you join a low key guild that doesn't want to speed-run all the duties and crap on you for not being as good as they are.
.
General rule for MMORPGs in general is, find a guild you like and hang with them.

"Plutocracy" is the term for "Financial Oligarchy" BTW. Worth knowing the term if you live in the U.S. since that's kinda what we have here these days :/

I don't know, this person has done a lot of decent things in his life. I'm not inclined to judge him by his worst decision.

jkmooney,
@jkmooney@kbin.social avatar

Yea, I get it, some will disagree but, in the end, I'm a bigger fan of "call out culture" than "cancel culture". The former gives the person a chance to course-correct.

jkmooney,
@jkmooney@kbin.social avatar

Of course not. You know that, I know that, everyone reading this knows that, you are just being a troll. Stop, or get blocked.

Although, speaking as a fan of Mint who used it as my "daily driver" for years, I think the time has come for them to switch from Ubuntu to Debian and embrace Wayland. I know that, if I'd stayed with Mint, I've have gone to LMDE by now.

jkmooney,
@jkmooney@kbin.social avatar

Have to agree. They had a great start by enhancing Debian and being user friendly but, then they just kind of lost their way.

Meta discontinues Messenger Lite for Android, it will be unavailable after Sep 18. Users need to install regular Messenger app instead (beehaw.org)

I have not found any news article on this on a whim. Because my friends and family, I need to use Facebook Messenger, and Messenger Lite was a OK client - lightweight, no unnecessary features, etc., compared to the regular Messenger app....

That has got to be the weirdest effing story angle..... I mean, somebody went to a publisher, pitched that headline, and they responded with "Run with it".........

I like to use OpenRGB to monitor operating temperature. The CPU fan reads the CPU temp, the window in front of my graphics card reads the GPU temp, and, for now, I have my keyboard reading the NVMe temp (just recently installed the NVMe). My mouse color is set by Piper/libratbag so I know what preset I'm using.

You want the Hardware Sync plugin

jkmooney,
@jkmooney@kbin.social avatar

For controlling addressable RGB lights. The Hardware Sync plugin allows you to use various PC status inputs to set the light colors

I don't know, Linus is still trying to excuse and justify. It would seem taking him out of the driver's seat was the right call. As for the rest, they are responding because their backs are against the wall. Time will tell if they will really make any changes.

I'm not really that familiar with LTT. I did subscribe to his channel, mainly because I was bemused by him borking his PC by rushing an install of Pop_OS and Steam. ("yes, do as I say", if you recall). Reading the PC Gamer article, it appears he did the same, "just drive on without thinking it through" approach to this prototype cooler. I haven't watched a lot of his videos and anyone can make a mistake but, there is an expectation that a "tech expert" show a bit of diligence. Plus, if he's showcasing a vendor, he should make sure they have every chance to shine.

I think my favorite part of this is that "man rm" is probably a lot simpler than feeding this question to an AI bot.

jkmooney,
@jkmooney@kbin.social avatar

For those new to Linux......no, "rm -f <file>" will not do what the AI said it would do ;) Open a terminal, type "man rm" and it'll tell you everything about it...

jkmooney,
@jkmooney@kbin.social avatar

You can't. Furthermore, the consequences of "people pleasing" and "conflict avoidance" can do far more damage than the occasional bad rep. In fact, if you're consistent about setting and enforcing reasonable boundaries, you'll ultimately gain more respect in the long run.

I've been trying running a VPN on my phone as a matter of course lately (Proton). I'm assuming it not only keeps your ISP from knowing where you're going but, more importantly, advertisers and trackers as well.
.
....or do I have that last bit wrong?

jkmooney,

The particular GRUB issue (on UEFI systems) it's referring to hit EndeavourOS as well. It's actually what nudged me into just going with systemdboot. Also, to be fair, with Arch, it's a good habit to check the update notes on the website prior to updating.

jkmooney,
@jkmooney@kbin.social avatar

I've been with EndeavourOS for longer than that.....I WAS THERE MAN!.....I WAS THERE! . (also GRUB Customizer sucks.....IYKYK) . I would eventually get GRUB working again but, it was not the same. I went to systemdboot.

Been Alpha, and now Closed Beta testing an new MMO, Palia. (https://www.palia.com/). It's a "casual" MMO more around crafting and community building than the typical "Murder Hobo" dynamic. If it sounds interesting, check it out. If you do sign up, use my link (below) because I can get some cool in-game stuff if you do and you'll get an in-game fruit basket when it goes open Beta.

jkmooney,

I've used both. Manjaro, in their attempt to be "user friendly", winds up disconnecting you from what makes Arch good. EndeavorOS, on the other hand, is basically Arch nicely set up for a "daily driver" PC along with some nice tools of their own you can use or not at your discretion. I've also used just plain Arch and I actually prefer EndeavourOS of the three.

jkmooney,
@jkmooney@kbin.social avatar

I generally tell people on Manjaro to stay off the AUR. If it's not in their "curated" repository, then just go with the flatpak.

I thought that was the Heterosexual Pride Flag? You know, blue for a man, pink for a woman, and white for the purity of God's love between them.

You have no idea how apropos this is to an argument I'm current embroiled in.

jkmooney,

I'm currently trying both out, still deciding.....

I'm kind of agreeing with you....but nothing bad against kbin though.

jkmooney,

I suspect I will eventually go to just one account. If this "Memmy" app essentially connects the two, that could be a good solution. Do you use your same account for both? I created separate. Here I am on Lemmy
https://sh.itjust.works/u/JK_Mooney

jkmooney,
@jkmooney@kbin.social avatar

As I move between the two options, I think I kind of prefer the "simplicity" of the Lemmy interface as well. I wonder if I should throw my hat in the ring and create a server myself?

Mastodon or Lemmy

So I’ve been starting to look further into the Fediverse and using it a lot more than any other part of the internet at this point. I wanna know the reasons why people might prefer Lemmy or Mastodon, I have both but seem to lean towards Lemmy for some reason, but not sure why maybe it’s the simple design and you can find...

jkmooney,
@jkmooney@kbin.social avatar

Having tried both, I think I prefer Lemmy

jkmooney,
@jkmooney@kbin.social avatar

I gave Mastodon a look when Twitter started to get all "Musky". I wound up going with Counter.Social in the end.

jkmooney,
@jkmooney@kbin.social avatar

I guess I did follow people on Twitter, I had friends there....then Musk made it weird...

jkmooney,
@jkmooney@kbin.social avatar

I've been curious about going "both ways", but never acted upon it... ;)
