I know torrenting over Tor is bad, because it steals bandwidth from those who really need it. But if I had qBittorrent (binded to Mullvad) running in the background and then started running Tor Browser, would that negatively affect the network?
I see the argument made a lot that you shouldn’t take away bandwidth in the tor network from people that really need it, but consumed bandwidth is way lower than the total available.
Yeah it’s Nathan for you. In this episode he goes to a food place that always has really long lines and proposes they let people with a really good reason cut the line. The guy on the right made up an excuse to cut the line, so they told him he was the 1000th customer and he won a prize (can’t remember exactly what it was, but it was to get him out on the boat), then they had a fake family shame him once he was out on the boat.
Hello, with the recent NSO hack in the wild I thought I would give lockdown mode a try. Turns out wefwef/voyager doesn’t want to play nice for some reason. I am posting this from memmy app. Would you mind taking a look into the problem? Thank you!
This is a workaround to exclude it from lockdown mode:
Settings -> Privacy and security -> scroll all the way down -> lockdown mode -> scroll all the way down -> configure web browsing -> you can exclude the app from the list there
To exclude specific websites:
Open the site in safari -> click the aA in the bottom-left -> website settings -> unchceck lockdown mode
The most likely issue you’ll encounter is that it blocks almost all message attachment types, so if someone texts you an image, PDF, contact card, etc, it will completely block the attachment.
I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux!
Should be no tracking. As long you are using a vpn, your public IP address shouldn’t be visible to YouTube and freetube doesn’t load the tracking scripts used by YouTube. It makes api requests to fetch only the video content.
But it isn’t that it might be problematic in the future, it’s very likely that it will. Look at what happened with RIAA and youtube-dl, reddit and film studios. The movie and music industries are very trigger happy when it comes to suing anyone even remotely related to piracy.
Also picking and choosing which sorts of liability you’re exposed to is normal, it isn’t an all or nothing situation.
I really dislike ad driven publications. I’m not opposed to paying for quality news publication, but for something like NYT, there’s only a couple articles a month I come across that I’m really interested in reading. You’re currently using Lemmy, which is developed by these people: (mstdn.social/@feditips/106835057054633379), but software that’s developed by a guy that was a little mean is too much?
True, but that’s also the case with grapheneos. There are several contributors and Daniel Micay has stepped down from the project as well, so if he is your only issue with using grapheneos, he isn’t there anymore.
Also, while Daniel was definitely in the wrong in that situation, it is worth mentioning he had been swatted several times at that point and was understandably angry, it was just definitely mis-directed.
