The regular Google store won’t let me install it because it “doesn’t work on my device”. I would love to decide that for myself please. Nice to see F-droid has no such limitations.

It was damn pretty; exteriors, interiors, and nature. And the combat mechanics were fun and well done, imho.

I don’t really care enough about the HP universe to care about whomping willows, broom flying, school rules, or that a 3rd grader shouldn’t really be able to murder an entire army of bandits, smugglers, goblins, and local magical aggressive fauna in a single school year.

I might just be into the cottage core aesthetics probably, maybe thats the reason I loved exploring every part of that world.

Truth. Mostly its the first movie shown to media students because there is simple concepts and camera tricks there, and its always best to start with the basics.

Thats a good question to those who have spent 1K+ hours in Skyrim and Fallout 4. Why go back? Skyrim didn’t even have a base building system.

I’ll bet you’ll be back for the first big expansion. And that seems to be BGS’ bet too.

Meanwhile BG3 has gotten massively quest patched, added user requested features, a few new companion endings, etc, all within 2023. And that game was in better shape at launch than SF was.

emptyother,
@emptyother@programming.dev avatar

Same. Haven’t found one I like the smell of yet. I’d rather shower more often than use them.

emptyother,

Im a big fan of “you can either pay me to fix this issue, or fix it yourself” model. Nobody should be pressured to maintain a open source project once they’re done with it themselves.

emptyother,
@emptyother@programming.dev avatar

I make lot of decisions on emotions too. The joy of helping people. The pain of seeing others suffer. Admiration of what people create. Fear for someones safety. Anger of hearing about unfairness.

What I don’t get is why so many of these “emotional” people dont seem to have any emotions like that. How is it to live like that? Only living with emotions like fear for oneself and oneself only? This isn’t a fight between logic on one side and emotion on the other. Not science versus beliefs either. It is empathy versus greed. The only emotion these assholes has is a fear of losing whats “theirs”, I’m pretty sure. And if scientific reasoning says its smart to share, of course they disregard it.

Simple: For most people (not everyone) even the thought of it releases stupid happy drugs in brain. It suppresses the feeling of disgust very effectively. Free will my ass, we are chained to those brain chemicals.

Weirdly enough a lot of humans are very opinionated on who are allowed to think about who, even if the brain chemicals doesn’t give a shit. Its all a big mess really and earth would probably be better off if humans didn’t produce these chemicals.

The guy from that Castaway movie.

Damn. Spot on. Not a farm, but a proper house in a rural area with outside space enough for various crafting projects. And a garden. And a cat.

Im dead tired of living in a 5x3 firstfloor apartment with a single window and an outside area under tight control by a HOA. Teenage me enjoyed cramped, spartan living arrangements. Now if only I had money enough.

emptyother,

Radicalized by Cory Doctorow, the first story there called “Authorized Bread” is VERY relevant to this topic. Thats the future we might be heading into. Ugh.

Find it really effin fascinating. But then keep dressing in mens clothes.

I have a fascination with gender swapping (and general body transformation) but it has never extended to clothes. I dont get why its so often clothes and crossdressing that other people of this kind enjoy. I just would appreciate a different body. And lower height. And not being so scary-looking. But being socially able to dress in female clothing doesnt interest me at all.

emptyother,
@emptyother@programming.dev avatar

I’m not. I’m not that uncomfortable in my current body. Just small annoyances. And the wish to try something new. I guess.

Like I seem to glance at the clock every day around the same time, wondering how long it is until my workday (or schoolday in my younger years) is over. Somehow its always exactly at 13:37.

emptyother,

I’d rather have my games voice actors on a livable wage than gta6 out early. We probably have to wait a few months or more until the game is bugfree anyway. And an additional year’s wait for it to come out to pc.

Zeal got Net Framework. The download for it is huge. And not particularly good. Lot of just class definitions with no guidance. DevDocs has a request/voting thingy (somewhere, I dont remember where, just that I’ve seen it) which documentation we want them to include next.

All these docs, both devdocs and zeal, is auto-generated from existing and publicly available docs. The doc apps only advantage is a single source and faster and easier search.

emptyother,
@emptyother@programming.dev avatar

Nice. Why use ‘-’, and not ‘+’ like we are used to from google? One argument against ‘-’ is that some people use it as part of their name.

Steam exclusives and nobody bat an eye.

Not that any other game launcher/store can measure up to steam. But you lock yourself out of a lot of good games these days if you still avoid other launchers.

emptyother,
@emptyother@programming.dev avatar

A patch?! A big one this time?

I’m looking forward to return to it… As soon as im done with Alan Wake, AC Mirage, BG3, Cities Skylines 2, and Cyberpunk 2077 PL. Jeez, what a few great gaming months it has been.

Can’t LGBT+ be included unless its meaningful? I dont like that “pandering” argument. It is too easy to misuse, too subjective.

I want them included in bad shows as much as in good shows. I want a random background person to be gay just as much as an important character. Best case would be if we didnt even raise an eyebrow on seeing a LGBT+ character and rather critizise their acting or plot instead of blaming “pandering”. I dont hear anyone call forcing a unecessary romantic straight subplot into a plot for “pandering”.

I’ll bet (without knowing for sure) Roddenberry’s idea of the Federation didnt start out as a police state. But like with currency, it is hard for many writers to imagine humanity evolving past the need for policing our own and enforcing laws.

No one can agree on what woke actually means

Truth. Word trends take some time to spread around the world, and by the time it reached me it was used mostly as a derogatory term. I could not figure out what it meant from context. Initially I thought it was related to red-pillers because it was used by the same kind of angry people.

I had to look up the definition eventually.

The fourth planet has a few advantages… Like theres no people there. No war despite being named after a god of war. And it has robots!

When you have a place to live and can afford a bucket of candy, I think it is an obligation to everyone who wants this tradition to continue to stay at home (yours or someone else if youre having a halloween party) and give out candy to the kids and compliment their costumes.

But other than that, nah, no age limit as long as you can still say thanks and enjoy it.

Deleting the content of that overlay folder seems to have worked. Just don’t delete the folder itself or it complains about it missing.

Just within software development:

  • JS (I’m using TS everywhere now).
  • Php (old project I’m hoping we’re getting rid of).
  • VB (old code was somewhy written in VB).
  • MySQL (feels like Oracle doesnt really care about its C# connectors).
  • SQL-queries directly in code (I’m pushing as hard as I can for any kind of ORM, but somehow my fellow devs doesnt find it as practical).

Browsers. Firefox hasnt given me reason to doubt. Yet. And I find that odd. Still uses it. Because every other big browser have given me reasons.

Generally “free” stuff from big companies is giving me more and more the heebie-jeebies. Even if they have good reputation. But there’s NO WAY I could ever pay for everything I use. Nor donate to every deserving person who has given their free time to create and publish FOSS.

I’ve always felt theres multiple sides to Microsoft. Theres devs making a damn good and simple product. Then comes the enterprise devs that over-engineer the product. Then theres the marketing coming in and try to buy up competition or bundle the product with other products to force it on people (MS way of advertising). And THEN the suits either ruin the product for money or shutting it down for not either making enough money or for not helping their enterprise products make money (like for example VSCode is a product that helps MS make money on Azure).

emptyother,
@emptyother@programming.dev avatar

I hope nobody would willingly try to beat that.

I’ve fallen asleep behind the wheels before. No amount of coffee, sun, cold air, or noise managed to keep me safe those few kilometers back home.

emptyother,
@emptyother@programming.dev avatar

Only 15 years ago? Jeez, that game feels ancient by now. The kinda game us old nerds bring up whenever kids brag about FarCry 3 and up.

I hope I’m not the only one who loved the gun jam mechanics? Or the way a NPC friend could drag me out of combat if I died, and only give me a basic pistol? Gamers today are so inconvenienced from setbacks and accidents outside their controls. Losing equipment just doesn’t happen anymore. And if it does, its called a survival game or survivor mode.

Oh. Damn. I’ve been listening to those songs for a decade.

I spend 60% of my life in front of it, might as well splurge on quality and comfort.

(Bad decision A: Spending almost 2/3 of my life sitting on a computer. Bad decision B: Using money on computers that I SHOULD save up to eventually affort a house loan)

Friends, family, and even people you briefly meet, rat you out. Often without them even knowing by sharing their list of phone contacts.

Eh… They chose to use the email protocol to send each emoji?! So external users or third-party clients (or school and work accounts for some reason) will be spammed. Won’t a bunch of gmails get marked as spammers then?

emptyother,

No, you heard wrong. We’re good at googling, not coding.

emptyother,

Librarian. Author. Then game programmer.

Now I’m a senior fullstack software developer. And it is honestly fun to chase bugs, no matter if they’re my bugs or someone elses. Also I didn’t need any university education for this. Went IT trade school, learned programming myself, got job as 1st line phone support, then was promoted to developer when I found and fixed bugs before it reached the devs.

Still would have loved to go the librarian path too. Maybe in the next life.

If all it took was a terrible explosion to discourage you, probably good you never took that route.

emptyother,
@emptyother@programming.dev avatar

I didn’t mean it that seriously, but I can see it wasn’t taken as lightly as I hoped. Sorry, I should have done better.

As a kid I understood that space travel was currently extreme sport and how damn brave (or crazy) one had to be to risk ones life for science in that way. But that was in the 90s and not in US. We were taught about it early. Still didn’t end my hope for colonies on Mars soon.

emptyother,
@emptyother@programming.dev avatar

US could need more movies with how police are supposed to act. From over here it seems like all US cops think they are action heroes up until bullets fly and they turn into undertrained cowards in overprized gear.

emptyother,
@emptyother@programming.dev avatar

Jup. And then you have to catch yourself before selecting because the content you are seeing are about to be switched with web results in a second…

And then, as you wait for the program to load, because you are already on a roll you switch to another window and continue working. But the program that is loading and updating and showing fancy launch animations keep stealing the focus over and over instead of staying in the background at least until its done.

Being effective in Windows is difficult.

emptyother,
@emptyother@programming.dev avatar

Lot of new apps, like for example Windows’ Phone Connection, have a minimum width instead. With unhideable columns. Often chat programs that does this. Also annoying. And weird that they build apps to look like mobile first designs, but then refuse to be useful on PCs when I scale the window to a vertical rectangle.
