Google Disabling Phone 2 Factor? (lemmy.today)

EDIT: You know, after some time to cool off, Google Authenticator 2FA can still be enabled and isn’t being phased out like the less secure SMS 2FA, so it’s really not the end of the world here. The chance of permanent lockout is avoided, even if the whole Google Prompt system is still wack.

doctorcrimson,

You actually have to buy the unlocked bootloader version of phones directly from Google, not something the vast majority of people could accomplish on their own. It’s a selling feature they provide so they can cut out middlemen at carrier services like Verizon (either that or Verizon locks it themselves, idk). I feel like if they wanted to detect that a device hasn’t been used in months or years before requiring you use it and only it for 2FA, they could.

doctorcrimson,

Ah man, if I see one more west coast white lady in a YT short explaining their 5min superfood meal prep when we all know there is 0% chance she swallows a single bite of food with that much exotic pepper and ginger…

I’m gonna fry rice and quinoa in Pineapple pulp out of SPITE.

doctorcrimson,

/s is required for all sarcasm on the internet, mate

doctorcrimson,

RIP I was finally getting some exposure with breadmaking shorts and now the platform’s on it’s knees.

doctorcrimson,

If you sign in, then they start threatening to lock video player on your account unless you disable, then they do. So I guess we’re all just gonna sign out and be lurkers now.

doctorcrimson,

Odysee kind of has a white supremacy problem, and also is financed by a crypto scheme so…

I really wish there were a proper alternative that just feels like an even slightly less evil version of YouTube but there currently is not.

doctorcrimson,

I was pissed a month ago when they installed cloud backup bloatware.

Can you imagine? Me giving them MY entire hard drive, for FREE?! And as part of the Windows Experience Package it cannot be uninstalled or disabled, all I can do is block with in the Firewall Rules.

doctorcrimson,

I think “afraid” is the wrong wording, it’s mostly about Time Saved vs Time Wasted, for a lot of industries it’s a lower cost for Windows at the moment but I think it’s about to shift especially when the Windows market in India and China finally topple.

Luckily we’ve already begun developing tools to help detect AI Images with higher accuracy than a human curator.

doctorcrimson,

Especially depending on the nation or district a person lives in, where CS can have even broader implications like everything from IT Support to Engineering.

doctorcrimson,

I said “with higher accuracy than a human curator.” You didn’t really build upon that, no offence. You also didn’t upvote despite literally repeating something that I said. You just like to take up space in people’s inboxes? I’m trying not to be an asshole about it but I feel legitimate confusion about the purpose of your reply.

doctorcrimson,

Commercially available AI Detection algorithms are averaging around 60% accuracy, that’s already a 12% increase on the data shown in this study.

doctorcrimson,

It already exists, the human accuracy was only 48% average in this study. It’s really easy to beat.

doctorcrimson,

With the direction you are forcing this conversation, away from practical examples and our current reality, the two of us are operating purely off hypotheticals. With that in mind, you could completely skip reading the rest of this comment and it won’t impact your life in any way, shape, or form.

If you think about it, the changes in the models working off data from the internet would actually make the unchanging defensive model (and to be clear it’s wrong to think that the AI based Defensive model would be static either) would make the defensive model more accurate over time because the less than 99% accurate generating models would eventually feed back into themselves dropping efficiency over time. This is especially true when models are allowed to learn and grow off of user prompts because users are likely to resubmit the results or make generative API Requests in repeating sequence to make shifting visuals for use in things like song visualisers or short video clips.

doctorcrimson,

Banned in tourneys since 2005, have a spliff

doctorcrimson,

Depends on the year

doctorcrimson,

Its sad that anybody believes Planned Parenthood was giving abortions on the government dime before the Trump Admin defunded it. It simply is not true.

doctorcrimson, (edited )

And, Heavens Condemn it, the freedom to Masturbate?!

HERESY.

/sarcasm

doctorcrimson,

Consent requires sentience so no animal can consent regardless of power dynamic.

doctorcrimson,

TBF there are Bill Clinton statues. One went up in 2009 on Bill Clinton Boulevard.

Theres not much for Donald Trump so far, some anti-trump activist displays and a small gold statue at a CPAC event, and hopefully it stays that way for a good while.

doctorcrimson,

I intentially skipped all that hype on Starfield because I don’t trust Bethesda, and it’s starting to look like I was right.

doctorcrimson,

I use Edge whenever something needs to stream on a Windows PC, unlike other Chromium builds it is capable of hardware acceleration and therefor 4k streaming. Whenever you watch 4k on Google Chrome it isn’t really that high quality.

doctorcrimson,

You can add as much context and nuance as you want but at the end of the day the hardware usage is locked behind a door that Edge has the key to and Chrome doesn’t.

doctorcrimson,

They are on higher end machines, but they don’t have the same capabilities of Edge on Windows. If it were Chromium on some other OS then they would probably be functionally equivalent.

doctorcrimson,

I love that quote, that’s so accurate. Especially with how many funerary schools are primarily Buddhist in Japan along with the vast majority of their burials. It’s actually uncommon for a mortician to prepare a body for a wake.

doctorcrimson,

Obligatory “It wasn’t folded 1000 times, it was folded 11 times giving it more than a thousand folds.” Fun fact, the older traditional Japanese forges were basically assembled from mud found right there on the rivers where they found their low grade iron, and this process was kept alive by spiritualism and tradition conservatives, so it’s honestly a miracle they assembled anything long and sharp at all. Most of the iron in Japan is considered low grade Pyrite at only 46% iron, while other places in the world had access to Magnetite with up to 72% iron before any refining.

doctorcrimson,

I switched an old delapidated version of QBit a few years ago for Deluge, they’re both cool I guess.

doctorcrimson, (edited )

Yeah, honestly, small town landlords and building owners have to keep up repairs and constantly monitor the situation so that the tenants don’t burn down or cause an infestation that tanks a 200k USD miminum (it goes a lot higher from there) investment that wouldn’t have been payed off for 13 more years as per the contract for deed.

They also have to file all the receipts, run background checks and keep documents on their tenants, and keep their leases up to date. All of this has to be securely stored for like 6 years.

There is a lot of risk involved in getting shelter to people who need it the most in the USA. Not everything can be a charity, if you’ve got a problem with that system then you don’t have an issue with landlords you have an issue with corporatocracy and real estate moguls on a much larger scale using a necessary resource as a semi-fungible currency. More than 1 in 20 homes in the USA are owned by Chinese investors. I’m sure there are some bad apples but the majority of non-affiliated landlords are just doing what they need to do to minimize financial risks and stay afloat.

Sometimes things like Lawyer Consultation Fees, Eviction Serving fees, Vacancies, and Water Damages forcing you to replace the flooring, the boards, some insulation and vents… It can run into the negative multiple months in a row. Sure they get some of it back after Tax Season, but they still had to pay in Quarterly Taxes up until that point so in order for it to work they need a lot in savings.

doctorcrimson,

Most people living paycheck to paycheck don’t qualify for a 20 year loan for land and a home even in the case of crappy manufactured homes. Plus, if they ever defaulted, they would lose the home and probably quite a bit of the equity as well, depending on local laws.

doctorcrimson,

Tap to Pay

spoileruwu

doctorcrimson,

My only gripe with this is the use of “boys” which implies young and thats wrong.

doctorcrimson,

Toothpastes sometimes use Glycerins derived from animal fats which are industrially available in the forms of pig lard and beef tallow.

doctorcrimson,

Yeah Agar Agar is cool

doctorcrimson,

It wasn’t all that bad, most of the really horrible crimes were committed by the CIA. Army Grunts were there to clean up afterwards. I think a lot of the infrastructure developments and border security policies in the Middle East actually truly helped alleviate the radical wahhabi islamic militant groups that were created when the USA toppled democracy in the region during and after WWII.

doctorcrimson,

It’s not really a rate it’s a bonus. It doesn’t say annually, it says 35k… and… a job.

doctorcrimson,

TikTok is a Chinese Military run platform.

doctorcrimson,

It was also written in 1946 or 47 but published in 1948. See the pattern? They swapped the 4 and 8 and published a dystopian future of the far off year 1984, lol.

Sorry, I just love that little fact.

doctorcrimson,

No but actually yes.

doctorcrimson,

Ahem,

Fuck Ass Bitch Motherfucker, Kill Fuckers with Their Own Fucking Cunt Shit, Goddamn.

Thank you for your time.

doctorcrimson,

Sounds like something a 4channer would greentext about.

doctorcrimson,

I love you too, bitch.

doctorcrimson,

Then why would they still leave in all of that data collection software? The app copies your photos, contacts, and text history. I’m not saying you’re a liar, but it seems pretty ballsy for an American based company to do.

doctorcrimson,

Having an actual dictator who can only be removed by his close peers makes China a lot more of an Oligopoly than a Communism, my dude. I think by strict definitions the USA is probably more socialist than the CCP.

doctorcrimson,

Lmao bro can’t remember a conversation we’ve been having for a week straight.

doctorcrimson,

So if they pay somebody else to murder people then it’s okay, in your words?

doctorcrimson,

Cope

doctorcrimson,

Trying to justify murder of thousands with some hard cut cope-amine.
