doctorcrimson,

Had me nodding in agreement until that last line.

Cruz’s Crime is not “100% society’s fault.” Cruz literally and figuratively pulled that trigger. At best maybe a 50:50, but to completely absolve Cruz of any wrongdoing is asinine.

doctorcrimson,

As an engineer, I think if we add a larger load to the top of the blade then we can probably get away with the full 1000 without sharpening or swapping the edge out. Sharp edges have a lower force requirement but a blunt edge will still work with enough force.

If we need a test group I think the Sackler Family are an ideal target.

doctorcrimson,

Coal is actually split into four types

  • Lignite
  • Subbituminous
  • Bituminous
  • Anthracite

And there is also Graphite which is technically different from coal.

Former Commercial Zoning = Inner City

People are going to fight bare knuckle for that kind of residence at a reasonable price. They charge out the wazoo for small apartments in that area.

doctorcrimson,

Can you imagine if a Biden fanboy made a post about how manly and beach ready he is? No, because only a deranged person would say that about any 70+ yo politician.

Trump cultists were literally expending every braincell on fantasy fueled denial.

Elon Musk gives X employees one year to replace your bank - ‘You won’t need a bank account... it would blow my mind if we don’t have that rolled out by the end of next year.’ (www.theverge.com)

“If it involves money. It’ll be on our platform. Money or securities or whatever. So, it’s not just like send $20 to my friend. I’m talking about, like, you won’t need a bank account.”...

doctorcrimson,

It’s twitter but Musk lost the rights to the brand identity despite overpaying billions for every share of the company so he calls it X, now.

doctorcrimson,

Sounds exactly like when your employer wants you to sign up for those stupid paycard accounts instead of fill out a direct deposit form.

doctorcrimson,

I wonder if it’s possible to get a bunch of these, daisy chain the processors, and span hard drives until it can install and run Monster Hunter World. Lack of VRAM is the only foreseeable issue.

doctorcrimson,

The PC version has probably the worst optimization of any game I’ve ever played. It’s an incredibly lazy console port, framelocked and all.

doctorcrimson,

I realize the irony of me talking about latency as a concern given my absurd above suggestion, but I think the bus speed would slow dramatically if it only relied on regular RAM.

doctorcrimson,

Meh, I’m pretty close to my ideal inner self. My abs are uneven but aside from that I’m gorgeous.

doctorcrimson,

Darktable is cool, it’s great with a GIMP workflow, but let me just say it’s possible to use CC Stopper and GenP to install and use Lightroom Classic without paying for it and it works really well.

doctorcrimson,

Adobe Creative Cloud requires a Subscription Fee and/or Credit Card Info to install a program, but with CC Stopper you can disable network activity in Creative Cloud and patch it with GenP to restore the normal Install buttons without using a credit card. Then, after installing the programs you want, the GenP has another tool that removes the paywall from the programs.

The limitations are the cloud reliant features such as generative fill in photoshop, and the non-classic version of Lightroom is inoperable, but for Lightroom Classic and most of the other programs and features it all works seamlessly.

doctorcrimson,

Fun fact, out of 168 wars fought in over the last several thousand years in which they were included, France has won 109, lost 49, and drawn 10.

doctorcrimson,

Wait, what? Where do people in Montana think they live? The south?

doctorcrimson,

I would consider the Rockies as their own distinct cultural and geographical region, tbh. Most of Montana that I’ve ever seen wasn’t in the mountains but that could just be a matter of perspective.

doctorcrimson,

You guys should see some of the water physics modders put in Skyrim. They’ve even got some crazy rainstorms.

doctorcrimson,

YouTube Ads: “You are a MAN with a GUN and you will MURDER EVERYONE if it means you can PROTECT your FAMILY”

I don’t even know, or care, wtf they are selling but they missed the target audience with that one. That’s the cringiest fetishism I’ve ever seen in my life.

Disney is gouging customers with a near doubling of subscription costs. (sh.itjust.works)

Disney is raking its customers over the coals with a 75% price hike for their annual subscription (originally $80.) People wonder why piracy is on the rise.Multiple commenters are saying I’m off base about the 75% price increase. My payment less than a year ago was $79.99. Here’s the proof.

doctorcrimson,

Feels like an egregious misuse of the word “gouging” but I understand the sentiment.

doctorcrimson,

The term is generally reserved for, especially in legal cases, goods that are required to maintain a minimum quality of life but are in finite supply. If you were to suddenly increase the price of food, water, or communication technology during a widespread emergency, you would be committing a very clear case of Price Gouging and in most places found in violation of the law.

However, Disney+ Streaming service is the epitome of a good that is NOT necessary to live. It’s a minor luxury with no positive impact on the consumer.

doctorcrimson,

That would be Pepe the frog, a cartoon character whose sad face was initially turned into a meme called “feels bad, man” but then it was adopted as an icon for downtrodden heterosexual white men and incels, and eventually became recognized as a Hate Speech Icon that certain “Anons” use purely because they think it’s cool to be edgy and rebellious.

TLDR: It’s a symbol like a modern swastika.

doctorcrimson,

IMO there is no need to take back a hate icon, many people including myself dislike the icon and it can stay buried forever. Imagine trying to make a swastika cool again: NO THANKS BRO.

doctorcrimson,

Seems like a mistake to place the danger zone on that side of the Kerem Shalom goods crossing, but then again they left that moron Netanyahu in charge so I’m sure that’s no mistake.

I heard Egypt actually warned Israel of the exact date of the initial attack and Israel still failed to react, it becomes harder every day to think this whole war wasn’t the intention of Israel leadership.

doctorcrimson,

Maybe if 30% of the population weren’t trying to re-elect one of those people for president it would be easier.

doctorcrimson,

LMAO imagine being an apologist for pedophilia and human trafficking and then judging others.

doctorcrimson,

Tara Reade’s story is purely hearsay, and she didn’t come forward until Biden was running for president 26 years later. Everyone who worked in that office at that time said it would be totally out of character and they’ve never heard anything like it.

All that stuff about Obama is whataboutism and honestly the man looks like a saint compared to Trump and Bush.

doctorcrimson,

My point is very clear, if people want Epstein’s list of associates and people who paid him to see justice, then they need to vote accordingly, and definitely NOT for the guy who was good friends with Epstein and visited his island many times.

doctorcrimson,

First of all, if a hearing is held in congress and not by the DOJ, then you’re absolutely expecting too much to think anything will be done for justice of past crimes. I don’t think the Senate or House can do anything on this topic other than keep the government funded. Historically, Congress has never shown the capacity to prosecute outside of changing how laws are enforced, which is moot because everything Epstein did is already illegal.

Second, I assure you there are active investigations to many of the names in the list, but not much incriminating evidence was found for the more than a thousand people he had some form of contact with over the last couple of years due to their discreet methods of conducting business. A lot of relevant court documents only recently became unsealed since trials started in 2016. Many new contacts were revealed at the end of the Virgin Islands Civil Lawsuit as well. Ghislaine Maxwell got 20 years, Sarah Kellen could be next as Federal Judges have expressed interest in charging her as early as the conclusion of the Maxwell trials in January 2022, JP Morgan have spent 13.8 Million USD on legal fees in the case and will pay 290 Million in reparations for facilitating the financial side of Epstein’s business, Deutsche Bank will pay 75 Million, etc. To claim that nothing has happened and nothing is being done is ignorance.

As much as some people would love to blame and execute Bill Clinton, for example, all he ever did was borrow the man’s plan on a trip to various charity medical sites across Africa that Epstein was unrelated to. So then where do you draw the line? Epstein made it his business to go to parties and shake hands with the influential. He disguised himself as a wealthy venture capitalist for over 2 decades before being outed as a trafficker.

In fact, almost half of Maxwell’s charges were dropped because there wasn’t enough concrete evidence and some of the charges overlapped with a previous conviction where they were granted immunity in a plea deal for state level charges. That’s how hard it is to get a conviction for a crime with only witness testimony. It’s like pulling nails. But it can be done.

doctorcrimson,

Listen, I can say that any number of past employers raped me, but why does that alone constitute evidence? Tara Reade has plenty enough to gain from lying, and nobody who worked there corroborates the claim. They even called it absurd.

doctorcrimson,

Present it. She literally published a book and accepted paid speaking events. Accusing Biden pays all of her bills. Last I heard the only people who were willing to side with Reade was her mother and her neighbor. If there were a sexual harassments claim in a government office then there are normally large paper trails and documented statements involved.

doctorcrimson,

Oh no he touched their shoulders. Clearly that justifies you comparing him to a literal rapist. /s

Google Disabling Phone 2 Factor? (lemmy.today)

EDIT: You know, after some time to cool off, Google Authenticator 2FA can still be enabled and isn’t being phased out like the less secure SMS 2FA, so it’s really not the end of the world here. The chance of permanent lockout is avoided, even if the whole Google Prompt system is still wack.

doctorcrimson,

If installing linux was a feature sold to you by Microsoft, and then Microsoft removed the ability for the feature to work on Linux, then that would be accurate.

doctorcrimson,

I never have and will never ask to use 2FA via the device. This isn’t sown, it’s just crappy design.

doctorcrimson, (edited )

The problem is they are turning OFF the SMS and instead sending a special dialogue to a nonexistent device for the user to hit a prompt. The device was never used, though, and it was never set up for 2FA. My default has always been SMS which they are now disabling.

doctorcrimson, (edited )

SMS could potentially be a secure form of Data Transfer if companies weren’t allowed by limp dinosaur legislators to gut your phone for any useable data with a simple app, but yeah I can see how it’s current state is lackluster.

You’re wrong, btw, the Google Prompts feature is Default and cannot be turned off.

doctorcrimson, (edited )

Outside of a private server, I’ve been using Yahoo Mail for like 23 years tbh

doctorcrimson, (edited )

Cool but that doesn’t fix the fact that the default method is one that literally does not function and can result in a permanent lockout. Though, I admit, SMS is way less secure than the Authenticator App.

doctorcrimson,

No, I’m telling you, it’s on by default when you purchase a Google Device. It doesn’t need to be set up.

doctorcrimson,

A device. The fact that any device is getting a google prompt and it cannot be disabled is the issue.

doctorcrimson,

It’s not constructive to answer your question instead of explain the situation to you for the 8th time. There is only one device and it was wiped and can never be recovered, not even by restoring the OS, but the Google Prompt is still the default option forever now. I found this mildly infuriating.

The best solution is to use something like Google Auth since only the SMS is being phased out. Do you understand now or de we need to repeat this again and again?

doctorcrimson,

Not striking per se, but if you piss them off they could start turning away the majority of applicants so they don’t have to deal with society’s more desperate. The corporates already do that anyways, though.

doctorcrimson, (edited )

There are fewer good landlords than bad ones, but the good ones work hard to maintain their investment and provide homes to families despite it being a liability. These properties are majority purchased on loans, after all.

doctorcrimson,

7Up for my homies who can’t have any caffeine, though, solid A-B tier.

doctorcrimson,

I don’t trust Equifax with my financial records but creators are expected to trust basement dwellers with access to their accounts? Maybe I’ll make a dummy account just for piped.

doctorcrimson,

We were probably focused on other things these past 3 years…

doctorcrimson,

Okay but a very small Caveat about the Godot thing, the main developers of Godot also got a large boost in funding but that doesn’t actually help maintain the engine because they have released statements that the two companies finances are separate and investment in W4 Games does not maintain Godot. This pissed off a lot of major contributors at the time.

doctorcrimson,

A before and after of a young woman installing all the necessary packages for her work.
