deus,

I’ve always been terrified of dancing in public cause I can’t dance for shit but at the same time it was always something I’ve wanted to do. Last friday I went to a small party with coworkers and after drinking a lot I, for the first time, decided to join them and dance. Drunk me is just as bad at dancing as sober me but didn’t really care lol. It was fun and I had a great time. That’s all really, just felt like sharing a small victory. Maybe I’ll pick up dancing someday.

deus,

His mockery is entertaining but I live for his occasional honest and positive reviews.

deus, (edited )

Kinda late to the party here but I’ll share a couple of my favorites:

Melodysheep - video essays about science and science fiction with absurdly high quality animations and production value

Mustard - same as above, except about interesting and/or unusual real vehicles

Casually Explained - just a dude with a great sense of humor and crude artwork explaining random things to you

Sam O’Nella Academy - same as above, except covering very specific and much weirder topics

Biblaridion - his usual content is about conlangs (don’t ask, I don’t know either) but his ongoing Alien Biospheres series about speculative evolution is simply amazing

TierZoo - highly entertaining videos about animals and zoology, except it’s all a videogame

LowSpecGamer - as the name implies, he used to make videos about making AAA games run on potato systems but has since pivoted into making (great) mini docs about the history of videogames and technology

Cyriak - he doesn’t post often but the dude has been making the same kind of technically impressive and often disturbing animations for over 15 years now

deus,

Love most of your suggestions but I wouldn’t recommend Internet Historian. Dude is a plagiarist at best and a Nazi at worst.

deus,

Sure, here it is. As for the plagiarism accusations look no further than the latest Hbomberguy video.

deus,

Reject Cinema Sins, embrace Cinema Wins.

deus,

For me the main draw was always being able to freely explore their beautiful handmade worlds, be it Tamriel or a post-nuclear US. You always knew you’d find something interesting around the next corner. I’d be happy with this being just Fallout in space too but it seems Starfield is mostly procedurally generated and you can’t even drive any vehicles so in that front they lost most of my interest.

deus,

Here it is. I was going to paste the whole text in here until I realized what a monster of a poem it is.

deus,

I held a small snake on my hands during a school trip a long time ago. I remember it felt leathery, kinda rubbery, and not slimy at all. What shocked me the most though was that it was cold, which is not surprising since it’s a cold-blooded animal, but still felt so wrong to me as someone who had only ever been around cats and dogs.

deus,

Speaking of which, do we have a Lemmy version of r/patientgamers? I miss that place

deus,

Thank you, I just subscribed.

deus,

TIL the Dead Cells’ game dev studio is a worker cooperative with no hierarchy. That’s based as hell.

deus,

Pretty much. All I want is to be able to pay money to legally download old Nintendo games as simple ROM files, is that too much to ask?

deus,

Wait, what new ending? Can we fix her heart now?

deus,

Probably, but then again, if you enjoy making art then just do it. It doesn’t have to be beautiful, it doesn’t even have to be good, as long as it makes you happy it is worth doing.

[DISCUSSION] What director(s) do you think have the best filmography?

I was checking out the new season of Fargo, which made me want to rewatch the 1996 movie and I got to thinking, the Coen Brothers have a fantastic filmography. They have way more hits than misses and they make some of the most interesting movies out there. No Country for Old Men is probably one of my favorites of all time. So...

deus,

Hard agree on the Coen brothers, their filmography is absolutely stellar. Other than them I think Hayao Miyazaki deserves a mention here. Dude basically never missed in his entire carreer as a director.

deus,

If you don’t appreciate a good stick are you even alive?

The ultimate male hetero fantasy

If not friend then why friend-shaped?

deus,

if dolphins could survive on freshwater

Well, you’re in luck cause these guys already exist

deus,

I had the same hope back in 2018 when Bolsonaro was elected in Brazil. Maybe this guy is just pretending to be insane and will be more reasonable once he’s president. I know better now.

deus,

What do you mean? Kbin is nice.

deus,

I don’t think the locals are too worried about Japanese imperialism.

deus,

Same. To this day I can’t listen to Promiscuous by Nelly Furtado without being thrown back to 2006 cause my cousin had bought that CD on release and played it all the time.

deus,

I’d rather mutate. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from Pokémon is that sometimes evolving is just not worth it.

deus,

Or reusable bags. We have some here made of fabric(Or is it cloth? Don’t know the right term) that we’ve been using for years.

deus,

Women’s eyelids are the same as men’s. If anything that just tells you that if you want to become swole you should add more weight, not more reps.

deus,

They’re clearly not adding enough weight.

deus,

New Star Soccer! I was playing it today actually, I kid you not. I used to play it as a flash game all the time back in the day but it feels much better on Android with a touch screen. Such a fun little game to pass the time.

deus,

Weekend, get-get-get with us, you know what we say

deus,

Smartphones are so big nowadays I’d be down to using a flip phone instead, if only they weren’t still so damn expensive. I like that form factor and the foldable screen technology seems pretty mature by now. Also, closing the phone to end a call will never not be cool.

deus,

That’s great to hear. It gives me hope that The Wolf Among Us 2 will be as good as the first one.

Mozilla Senior Director of Content explained why Mozilla has taken an interest in the fediverse and Mastodon (techcrunch.com)

"the company looked at the history of social media over the past decade and didn’t like what it saw… existing companies that are only model motivated by profit and just insane user growth, and are willing to tolerate and amplify really toxic content because it looks like engagement… "

deus,

It seems to me they’re saying Lemmy needs corporate backing to grow? Cause if they were so bothered by the opinions of the Lemmy devs they could simply use Kbin instead.

deus,

The Lemmy devs have no power over instances they do not run themselves.

Pixar, 2025: What if aliens had feelings

deus,

There’s no Excel in heaven

God only supports FOSS software, they use LibreOffice Calc up there instead

deus,

Doing so on the desktop is easy enough. Getting rid of Android appears to be a much harder challenge, though.

deus,

Yes, I’ve done it myself following some tutorials online for Skyrim SE. It’s not as simple as on Windows but it’s definitely possible.

deus,

For once everyone is right

deus,

That’s a funny way to spell Pizza Tower.

deus,

The rest of it being ads, I assume

deus,

Maybe a communication device? That’s how it started at least.

deus,

How could you forget Solus and Void, they’re the best ones

deus,

I guess Cuba didn’t want to move to make room for it
