dangblingus,

I don’t understand, out of all of the things that we teach students in schools, out of all of the things that people don’t demand justification for learning, why Maths gets all of the flak. It’s the foundation on which the universe exists. If people don’t understand that they’re not just learning trigonometry “just cuz” then they probably don’t have much of a career in STEM planned for themselves. Which is fine, but western society’s blindspot for STEM is 100% attributed to the intentional undermining and dumbing-down of the education system.

We regularly don’t give students justification for why they learn grammar, biology, chemistry, physics, visual art, and music. But as soon as you show someone a standard polynomial, they lose their fucking minds.

dangblingus,

I think the issue is that most Fediverse instances share the same values of a socialized and decentralized internet/social media, and despite Threads federating, we know that Meta is a for-profit massive corporation that exists to create a centralized data scraping network.

dangblingus,

Star Trek (esp 90s Trek and esp TNG) is extremely formative for most Gen Xers and Millennials. It’s unapologetically nerdy and has themes of tolerance and empathy, and establishes a utopian vision for the future that (to most people) is unfathomable. When we’re not on Lemmy, we’re talking about Trek with people in person.

dangblingus,

Rude! That lady isnt fat at all!

dangblingus,

Today on Food Wishes. We will be. Making. A delicious dish. So delicious. In fact. That you will want. To make it again and again.

dangblingus,

Dunkey. Mind you, he just had a kid so I think he’s put out some lower (but not phoned in) effort videos in the last couple of months, but his comedic voice and the banal way he mocks games and gamers has always been consistent.

dangblingus,

Scott needs to go back to making 12 minute videos. I can’t deal with 45 minute - 2 hour long videos of him talking about the Virtual boy.

dangblingus,

H3H3. As soon as they got notoriety for their defamation lawsuit against the cringe pickup artist guy, they abandoned making reaction videos and instead became a trashy podcast.

dangblingus,

I can’t even follow the logic most of the time. It pre-assumes you’ve dug as deeply into the movie as they have and have already moved past surface level continuity errors. Also, it got cringey any time they’d remove points for “hot chick moment” or “liking this scene humanizes our channel”.

dangblingus,

At this point, how many different ways can you build a PC then benchmark it, all the while shitting on top tier equipment like it’s for brokeasses? You made a server and put the highest capacity drives in it you could afford? Cool bro.

dangblingus,

Also Funhaus. They used to be funny, then the shtick got old, then they all started making announcements they were leaving Funhaus for greener pastures…and now they’re all back at Funhaus doing the same old thing. Ehhhhh.

dangblingus,

idubbbz is finished. He went too far and now he can’t salvage what made his channel so great. Wayyyyy too obsessed with drama and not his own thing. Youtube is a different place now. He should go back to doing bad unboxing videos.

dangblingus,

Just so contrived. Even before the harassment allegations, their videos just seemed so corporate. That’s the Conde Nast influence, but it makes for such milquetoast content.

dangblingus,

JONTRON. OOF. FUCKING TRAGIC.

dangblingus,

He’s not an organic tech reviewer. All of his devices are sponsored. He exists in a completely different world than the vast majority of his audience. Money is not an object for him and he promotes always having day 1 tech. He essentially shills for whomever is giving him today’s device to review and he’s been very pro-Apple in his editorializing.

dangblingus,

Remember when they had all 3 channels firing on all cylinders? Vsauce for mind blowing science videos, Vsauce2 for awesome shorter format wtf internet widget videos, and Vsauce3 for gaming science stuff. One of the best eras of YT.

dangblingus,

In case you’re wondering, it’s called “Gonzo Journalism”. He’s following in the footsteps of Hunter S Thompson.

dangblingus,

Even though you’re completely right, there are 2 issues.

Most people are status quo adherents. The threat, even a real threat, of a totalitarian dictatorship take over of their country won’t ever be perceived as credible because in their mind “it’s just not possible” (at least in western nations). Second issue is that most people don’t understand, even in a post-Snowden world, what surveillance is actively being performed on them. A percent of a percent of smart phone users are even aware of what PRISM is, and most people don’t understand how that information can be weaponized against them.

Getting people to care about privacy means educating people on how computers work. But we’re about 40 to 50 years too late for that.

dangblingus,

I’m not sure leftists are concerning themselves with bad faith “all men are scum” debates. Attention seekers and rage baiters on the internet may style themselves as socially and ethically conscious (which is funny that that gets its own discrete political ideology…huh) but no true leftist seeks to divide the working class along sex/gender lines. It’s definitely not a top 10 talking point of leftist politics.

dangblingus,

But when the game’s mechanic is beating a singular person who’s sitting right beside you, skill matchups dictate the fun. But this is probably why I play Third Strike alone lmao

dangblingus,

Black Ops 3 was always humbling. Hard carrying lobbies all night and then get absolutely wrecked by a team of gravity spikes.

dangblingus,

While also doing body horror.

dangblingus,

Yes! Please develop the back story more! We want to see how the DS came to be! Plant some seeds for DS2! More Lea Seydoux! More Die Hardman!

dangblingus,

Until you make Norman Dinkus drink too many, then it comes full circle and becomes a bona fide Kojima moment.

dangblingus,

Thats his trademark. I dont want to play a game where all of his wacky crazy ideas get sanitized in the name of having mass appeal.

You think modern audiences can look past his hilariously terrible character names?

dangblingus,

Why, during any debate about the carbon tax, does no one ever demand accountability from the corpos and oversight from the Feds?

Why is it legal for corpos to arbitrarily raise prices to offset THEIR tax? Why do we waste time calculating individual tax refunds that include climate tax rebates when it should be a tax paid by the corpo to the government as the cost of doing business?

dangblingus,

Im all for charging more taxes on high emissions goods, but allowing it to be a fuck you to the consumer that has to engage with capitalism and not the corpos who dont have to offer high emissions goods, kind of blurs the whole “Earth is dying” conundrum we’re in.

Right, its my fault for buying gas for my car that I need to go to work to keep society functioning. Its not the gas companies fault or the car manufacturers fault. Its totally my bad for wanting a livable wage the only way you can get one.

dangblingus,

Why is it always the worst rap music imaginable? Like, I’m a hip hop fanatic, old school, new school, trap, g funk, boom bap, conscious, etc. But why is it the most asinine “i took a xanny now i’m fucking your girl” type shit?

dangblingus,

The “my parents are so lame” gambit.

dangblingus,

Björk deep cuts. That’ll fuck with them.

dangblingus,

The 1 downvote you have is from a sequel trilogy fan.

dangblingus,

Makes sense. Normalizing smoking isn’t cool. It’s one thing if it’s in a movie or TV show, but Twitch has the pretense of being real people who can have parasocial relationships with their fans and influence their behavior. Kids don’t need to see or be influenced on that level. At least the nudity or sexuality will be properly labelled.

dangblingus,

It was never video games only. My first introduction to Justin.tv was the fact that it had 24/7 Seinfeld streams.

dangblingus,

Bankers famously HATE boobs.

dangblingus,

Yall know there’s free porn on the internet right?

dangblingus,

What is there to comprehend? Linkerbaan said they want to watch Twitch but without feeling awkward seeing a bunch of titty girls on their living room TV. Dkarma’s solution is to advise them to stop watching Twitch. It’s not my advice, but the A to B logic is sound.

dangblingus,

Yep! Youtube is a great resource for finding footage of competitive games!

dangblingus,

Considering how similar the audience interactions work, I could see Amazon buying OnlyFans and integrating it into Twitch.

dangblingus,

In certain instances during gameplay, having a scrolling 16:9 perspective will ruin puzzles and progression that hinges on the discrete screens of the original world map.

You have DNS ad blocking, but not IP encryption or DNS rerouting. DNS rerouting encrypts your plaintext DNS lookups, but your packets are still very much sniffable. If you aren’t using a VPN + DNS filtering/rerouting, you’re not anonymous. Also, if your girlfriend is away from home, she’s probably completely unmasked on the internet. Same with you. Your phone keeps that metadata. Also, Facebook and Instagram all use tracking software that tracks your activity even if you close the apps. It would be wise to delete your facebook and instagram accounts as they aren’t really necessary to live a happy life and they are actively spying on you.

If you really need to share photos, I’d recommend flickr or photobucket, and if you need to talk about yourself, get a blog. Your actual friends and family will find a way to stay in touch with you.

dangblingus,

Seems like a stupid decision to make remote play from PS5 system agnostic when your own handheld device doesn’t even work with it.

Like, ELI5, what kind of executive decision making strategy is at play to completely undermine your unprofitable portable hardware?

Your Smart TV Knows What You’re Watching (themarkup.org)

These TVs can capture and identify 7,200 images per hour, or approximately two every second. The data is then used for content recommendations and ad targeting, which is a huge business; advertisers spent an estimated $18.6 billion on smart TV ads in 2022, according to market research firm eMarketer.

dangblingus,

Doesn’t mention what circumstances it’s tracking your watching habits. If you’re watching an obscure movie on DVD, is it still looking at frames? Does it have to be through a streaming service being run on the TV? Does it recognize content being run on modern game consoles? Not a very informative article.

dangblingus,

Bah! Reading! But that is concerning. Looks like I’ll be disabling my wifi credentials on my TV later tonight!

dangblingus,

Yeah. Ive seen this same article posted every year since Sony premiered Ghost of Tsushima across the road from the LACC. Before that, they said it was dead when they banned booth babes. It also hasnt existed for the last 3 years.

We are very well aware it’s dead.

dangblingus,

Some of my favorite E3 memories are pre-youtube watching SHADY ass streams in 144p of E3 coverage.

dangblingus,

The industry only exists in its current form because of hype and fomo.

Most Albertans don't want the province to pull out of CPP, survey finds (www.ctvnews.ca)

One month after finance ministers met to discuss the Alberta government's intent to pull out of the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) public opinion polling by the Angus Reid Institute suggests there's little desire among Albertans or the rest of Canada to see Alberta leave the plan.

dangblingus,

Better keep voting against your interests, Alberta!

dangblingus,
