What search engine is currently showing the most useful results? What other tricks do we have aside of adding “reddit” or whatever internet community to the results?
Definitely. So many searches lately will return results that only partially match the search terms. What’s even the point of searching if you’re just going to show a bunch of unrelated results?
The Wikipedia definition seems to indicate it has origins as a racist term and I’ve never understood why unix users have adopted this terms instead of something benign like “themes” or “theming” which I remember being in use long before I ever heard “rice”. So what gives? Why use “rice” instead of “theme”?
Hi, I am a guy in early thirties with a wife and two kids and whenever I go on youtube it always suggests conservative things like guys dunking on women, ben shapiro reacting to some bullshit, joe rogan, all the works. I almost never allow it to go to that type of video and when I do it is either by accident or by curiosity. My...
Because ‘conservative’ content gets a lot of engagement (ie ad money). The more they recommend it the bigger the audience, the bigger ad payout. They’re literally monetizing hate.
Iv seen posts with people substituting rape with r@pe. Other than bypassing filters I can’t see a reason to censor just 1 letter that doesn’t actually censor the word? I see if you fully censor the word, but even still context completely ruins the censorship.
Good god, that content is so awful. Sports, shootings, parenting. So glad we have Lemmy. It feels more like the old internet where it’s mostly tech nerd focused.
This may be more of an “out of the loop” thing, but I’m new to this site and I’m noticing that lemmy.world seems surprisingly bereft of any substantial NSFW content. I’m surprised! Isn’t the adage that porn motivates technological progress?...

Do you consider the term "rice" or "ricer" to be racist?
