Hi guys! For the past… ever, I’ve been putting my health and fitness aside. I tried a few times to get into the habit of exercising to no avail. I’m not overweight or anything but neither am I strong or flexible as I want to be. Mainly because I don’t want to have health troubles later in life. HOWEVER, to get started I...
In my case it has been perseverance and dedication. I’m 120kg and 6ft4. I feel ok, but I am at least 15 kg over weight. I have two kids, and I realised I was getting less able to do things they wanted to do with me. The timeframe where they will actually want to do things with me is getting shorter too, so I’ve been running to improve my health and general fitness. It’s painful, difficult, and I end up pretty sore, but I’m getting a little bit better each time, and I’m sticking with it this time. So I guess to answer your question, you get started by deciding it’s time and the various reasons you have are important enough to keep trying. I let my health go during the pandemic and I really needed to do something about it for my family. If you’re able, I would start with brisk walks, that gradually turn into periods of jogging on the walks, which gradually get longer… Good luck

I’ve just come back to running after getting COVID for the first time. 3.5 years was a pretty good run, and I was actually thinking I might be immune… I’m not.
First few runs after recovery were difficult and I felt like someone was sitting on my chest most of the time.
This morning though, I managed 6.79km in 39m14s with the doggo, and felt pretty good. Needed a few rest stops, but I’m getting it back, which is satisfying.
Actually just went for my first run in a few weeks after having COVID. Kept it short at 3k. A few coughs and I didn’t feel like I was filling my lungs - will need to take it easy for a little bit I think.
Madonna. the Girlie Show tour in Melbourne, something like 1993 I think. I (a 12 yr old boy) went with my sister and her friends (3-4 years older)… Man I felt awkward throughout - having a crush on one of my sister’s friends did not help.

This was my album. A friend gave it to me on tape with Definitely Maybe by Oasis on the other side. I saw them a few times in Melbourne, once at a uni for O-week which was amazing, the other at a bigger venue in the city. City gig had smoke machines, I got conjunctivitis and couldn’t open my eyes for 3 days after. I missed 2 of my final school exams and had to plead my case for special consideration to sit them later.
I also loved Swallowed, but they didn’t ever match the Sixteen Stone album. I think they just released something didn’t they?
I’ve been a little under the weather, so had a three day break instead of a two day break in between runs. Ran my fastest 5km in a few years as a result. Still a minute or so off my pre-covid record but felt pretty good during the run. Slight tightness in my right calf though towards the end. Time to get the roller out.
Hey. I thought I’d give this a shot, just a general chat thread about running… eg. How was your run today, how are you tracking, how’s your training going for that race that you decided to go for etc… if it’s popular, maybe someone knows how to write a bot to post weekly or monthly? (I don’t)
No recommendations other than to go to a shop that will fit you, IE. Observe your running style on a treadmill, then fit a shoe that’s appropriate to your gait.
Have you been spending hours trying to pass a level? Or maybe you are completely addicted to a newly bought game. Do you have a question about a game or would like to share something else? In the Weekly Discussion Thread, you can do it all!...
I saw various articles saying you should get new shoes every 300-500ish miles, but I’m skeptical if they just want you to spend more money by saying that. Do you follow this advice, or do you put more miles on your shoes than this? Do you think 1000 miles on a pair of shoes would be too much?...
Garmin 245 music. It’s a great watch for my purposes, running, hikes, steps, basic health stats etc. The sleep tracking seems to pick up my in bed reading so not very accurate. The one I’m wearing is a refurbished replacement that Garmin provided (free of charge except postage after a bit of back and forth) on account of the development of the dreaded white spot - Garmin forum link about it. So apart from that issue, it’s a great watch.

I have a Garmin. I mainly use it as a time measure. Yeah it has stats and stuff, but it also lets me store some music on it so I don’t need to run with a phone.
I absolutely hate “smart” TVs! You can’t even buy a quality “dumb” panel anymore. I can’t convince the rest of my family and friends that the only things those smarts bring are built-in obsolescence, ads, and privacy issues....
I need to de-huge a huge room. I thought making some sound absorbing panels might help. I found this video, which is great, so I’m going to try this. Having trouble finding thermally bonded polyester though. Is that a common thing, or is it a niche product.
