It seems to happen in a lot of areas today. This generation let a lot things erode because of it. I remember people defending the introduction of ads on to the internet.
“Its just a 30 second skippable ad. Stop complaining”,
“so what they collect a little data, they want to gear ads to their audience”,
“Its 4 consecutive 2 min unskippable ads, who cares. Not the end of the world”,
“they built a profile of you that lists everyone you know through social media using the tools and methods they learned from these ad systems. The profile lists all your motivations, wants and needs based off your favorite Mr. Beast shorts that they use to target political ads meant to radicalize you and if not you then your friends, Dada, uncles, moms, sisters. Shut up and drink your athletic greens.”
Seriously, you can just inject it without any harm?
I was at the CNE in Toronto recently and they had a free narcan table. The person was busy so I walked by. Now i regret not waiting
The city I live in has a fairly bad homeless problem and drug use that comes with it. Just last week I walked past some office workers who had to call an ambulance on a guy that was having troubles, not sure what the trouble was. The guy seemed out of it but was eating a sandwich but just out of it. The ambulance showed up as I walked past. And this is a common sight at lunch.
I just checked out your github. Your python “age guesser” repo and “name guesser” repo are top notch. Your unfinished “street address guesser” looks promising. The internet is thrilled for these three contributions
The homeowner who fatally shot a 20-year-old University of South Carolina student who tried to enter the wrong home on the street he lived on Saturday morning will not face charges because the incident was deemed “a justifiable homicide” under state law, Columbia police announced Wednesday....
A bit too late at the imaginary non event in your head?
But the definition of threat is what you described. It is a threat against your life which this was not and its why this is tragic because failing to assess caused an unnecessary death.
Then why are you firing on them if you have a gun and you haven’t taken other steps to protect yourself. Blind firing is not self defense its irresponsible and caused the death of an innocent kid
Except this person was not there to break in. And if the home owner took steps to meet the actual threat with a proportional response then he wouldn’t have killed the kid. Anything from shouting for the person to leave, to leaving the home and calling the police to also announcing he was armed and will shoot all could have prevented this. Which is why so many places have laws in place for this reason. This was a preventable death.
His intention was not to break in to someone else’s home. He was at the wrong home. Your example involves people being hurt which makes the example bad for this context. You stretched it pretty far and then accused me of playing make believe. Impressive
so morons dont stand their and wait to be murdered in their own home by somebody violently entering it.
Reality here shows you why you do use proportional
Dont try to equate an equal force argument with a home invasion in progress. The home invader has already shown intent.
Again, the reality is there was no ill intent. I don’t need to force an equal force here because its clear had it been used the kid would be alive. That is the point of proportional response. Killing anyone should not be done without proper due diligence which here it is arguable it was not. The kid was murdered because he made an innocent mistake while drunk. A mistake that happens often
Anything from shouting that you’re armed and will fire if they enter. Leaving the home if you’re able too. Warning shot. Visually confirming what you’re killing.
Home invasions are rare especially if you’re not connected to criminal life yourself.
And the kid fucked up. No doubt. Smashing a window, who wouldn’t think home invasion. But having a firearm to defend meant the home owner had time to take other actions and be safe. Actions weren’t taken. Actions that if taken would have prevented this death. Which is why many places don’t have these types of laws. Statistically you’re more likely to make a mistake than encounter a home invasion
So, give up your position and element of surprise letting them know where exactly you are
Yes, it isn’t Fallujah. Your position is in the house. Either they know your there or they don’t. If they don’t and you yell your armed the odds are they leave. Or in this case it would have opened a dialogue that would prevent the murder.
Just give them the house, Morrowind rules
You aren’t giving them this deed to your house.
Illegal
No
because it endangers bystanders and is reckless and irresponsible.
No it doesn’t. But I agree its a shame when innocent people die due to irresponsible gun owners
You mean like seeing an arm break a window and reach for a doorknob?
Unarmed hand but go back to first point about warning intruder you are armed and will fire.
Its the safest and quickest way to deescalate. If your house is on fire you don’t try to stay and fight it yourself. You get to safety. Same goes for home invasion. I’m not dying to save $500 TV. Standing ground only makes sense as last resort.
you would be charged for that.
No. Warning shots are warranted in some situations which this is. It sounds like you’re expecting more self control for warning shot and not for a kill shot
Why not reboot though. Its one of those things I don’t think really I want to go away. It saves so much time. I already know the story and characters. I don’t need 6 seasons and 2 films to build the mythos. Its all built into it.
Right. Undercover FBI was all like “hey hackers, press alt-f4 to check for hidden agents” and they did and then all the zombie PCs shut down and the FBI all cheered

I’m not saying anybody takes csam less serious. But I wish the American government Went after minor csam events as much as they go after copyright/IP violations. Its not like mike pompeo flew out to other countries to strong arm them into new laws to prevent csam like they have done with pirates who threatened Hollywood profits

I don’t think that’s right. Lots of mundane things get politicized by the right in a way that makes it very understandable to people who might not usually care why they should care. It’s why grandma knows about trans teachers but not right to repair. One side of culture doesn’t shy away from educating people or conflict while the other side hopes a cool thing takes off naturally in its own time ignoring how important it is to market ideas.
Specifically in the USA, but feel free to share your status quo. We live in the internet age, doesn’t that cut overhead with filing and make things cheaper?
In order to be cheaper we would need to flood the market with lawyers. But the number of lawyers is purposely controlled. Image if you regular people had access to lawyers. The chaos. Youd waste all the lawyers time complaining about illegal wage theft and union busting or excessive force. The system works much better when the law protects the people who earned it
The problem is there is no chance to refute any of it if you or other mods remove it. I can’t stand the conviction behind some of these beliefs but also I think its much worse to see it being removed
I’m aware. And I fully support the mods not allowing this place to turn into what r/Canada became. But it doesn’t feel right to me to remove posts just based on a commenter saying some bullshit but with enough conviction to say it as a fact.

I don’t think so. I think there’s tons of voting and posting. But I think wild chat bots is a whole other beast that doesn’t exist on the scale people think it does.
