I don’t care what people say, the most important historical event in my lifetime was the discovery and release of the lost Steely Dan tape containing The Second Arrangement

For me, it was The Beatles’ new “Now and Then” track. A couple of things to mention though:

  • I was born after 1996. This is the only new Beatles song released in my lifetime that hasn’t appeared as bootlegs or the like. Unless Hell freezes over and they release “Carnival of Light”, this is the only opportunity I will ever have to experience a truly new track by the group.
  • I didn’t have as strong of a reaction the first that I heard it. Or the second time. I suffer from TMJ, which tenses and aches my jaw and puts pressure on my inner ear, oftentimes dampening my hearing. It wasn’t until late the date of release that my jaw popped and released the tension which it had had that day and I could hear clearly. The first thing I did was put on the new song so I could experience it in its whole. And there were so many layers to it that I couldn’t hear with the first listens. There was a mix of appreciation marred by the frustration of how fleeting the moment was, not just from being part of the once in a lifetime zeitgeist but also a brief moment of physical relief and undamped senses.

There’s this recently uncovered tape that I was referencing. It’s decent quality, but definitely not as pristine as what Steely Dan is known for.

I was more meaning material that was written/recorded decades ago, but that’s notable too

Unsolicited ads are implicitly anti-user, especially when they impede or interrupt access to content.

People are allowed to break the rules of their own religion at their convenience but other people must always abide by those rules. “It’s ok when I do it”, so to speak.

At least you’re not being anti-semantic

Well the spammer just hit this community and in my report of their post I asked for them to be banned from the instance so we’ll see what happens with that. There should be a more clear and streamlined way to directly report malicious users to any instance’s admins to block them.

Was the video you linked to supposed to substantiate this claim?

“Returns” is a really odd choice of word here. The samples have not been on Earth before.

Creating a URL to host an image prior to publishing a post/comment seems like a security flaw

When using the web browser to draft a Lemmy post/comment that contains a direct image upload, the instance creates a self-hosted URL that publicly shows that image prior to the user deciding to publish that post/comment. This creates a liability in several ways:...

I searched on Lemmy for anybody else raising this concern but I didn’t see anything about it. GitHub is beyond my understanding unfortunately, so anything with that is foreign to me.

How do the advertisers know how frequently in-video ads have been skipped? Do they ask for historical data on this from the YouTuber before brokering the sponsorship for an individual video?

While it was great to see a bunch of Clone Wars stuff in live action, the sparse and foggy environments felt glaringly low budget. I wonder if they could have gotten a better effect by using the Volume for a backdrop.

Though it may seem weird to have a 19 year old and an 14 year old leading the front lines of a battle, keep in mind that they’re technically older than their clone troops.

Anakin’s “You look old” line felt like a poke at viewers complaining about Hayden not being de-aged much in the Obi-Wan show.

I can always do with more Mon Mothma, but I thought it was odd that it makes her visual appearance inconsistent with RotJ. She’s reverted back to her pre-OT hairdo (and seemingly hair color) and went from looking like Genevieve O’Reilly (RotS, Rogue One, Andor) to looking like Caroline Blakiston (RotJ) to later going back to looking like O’Reilly in Ahsoka. I recognize the limitations of live action story-telling and the use of actors’ likenesses, but to have consistency in-universe there seems to be three options:

Either:

  1. All depictions of Mon Mothma that take place during or around RotJ are animated instead of live action
  2. All live action depictions of Mon Mothma that take place during or around RotJ have Caroline Blakiston’s likeness digitally added onto the actress stand-in (à la Peter Cushing’s likeness for Tarkin in Rogue One or Mark Hamill’s likeness in The Mandalorian/BoBF)
  3. Blakiston’s appearance in RotJ is canonically replaced with a new performance by O’Reilly (à la The Emperor in TESB Special Edition or Anakin’s Ghost in RotJ Special Edition)

None of these options would be easy for me to swallow, but I’d like to know your thoughts on this matter. Am I just overthinking and fretting about nothing? Do you think Genevieve O’Reilly was briefed about when the Ahsoka series takes place?

Edit: Come to think of it, there is precedent in live-action for what happens when a character is first portrayed by an Actor A and, by necessity, later portrayed by an Actor B in scenes which take place each before and after Actor A’s scenes (sort of). In TESB Special Edition, Boba Fett’s voice was redubbed by Temuera Morrison for the sake of continuity with Morrison’s portrayal of Jango and his clones which incidentally also yields continuity with Morrison as Boba in The Mandalorian & BoBF. The semblance of original (voice) actor, Jason Wingreen, was removed from canon.

Yeah, the visual continuity is something that I can look past in this case. It would be a nice-to-have, not a need-to-have. Retaining the actor also isn’t relevant for cases where a transformative event or an extended period of aging has occurred (ex. unmasked Vader in RotJ, Anakin growing up between TPM and AotC, Obi-Wan between Kenobi and ANH, Boba from AotC to The Mandalorian)

The Galactic Standard Calendar was established in S3 of Mando when they mentioned Taungsdays. Interplanetary commerce and travel would essentially require a standardized time and date system as well. The simplest answer is that Mr. Krabs just wrote a clunky speech.

I just pronounce the new name as “ks” since that’s the sound which the letter X generally makes and it irritates sycophants. Also, if the site URL still has Twitter as its base then it’s still an acceptable name
