I haven’t tried Linux on desktop in years but I would like to explain why power users might prefer not learning the command line: they don’t want to learn/memorize/understand the commands needed as that would take away from other things they want to spend that time on, I’m not sure why gui doesn’t hold that friction but it doesn’t
I would like to add that this was considerably recent, they pulled out of China deliberately when they were asked to censor search. Idk what changed but there have been too many changes there to pinpoint what’s the actual reason.

I have always hated it for this, but hating on Google is so popular that you can use what’s basically a website full of lies (of omission?) and get upvotes
They even include rebrands as killed, like what even… and I’m not talking about Google Play music, that was actually killed. One example is tez, the Indian version of Google pay that got rebranded to (you can guess it easily) Google pay.
I gave it a try because I kept reading how it’s so good on tech subs on reddit, turns out it’s worse than Chrome… and it only got worse (with the Bing AI stuff, which was supposed to be even better)
I now think those redditors might have been astroturfers.
Welcome to the boat, I tried edge from all the people recommending it on reddit and I hate it

I subscribe to the emergent properties theory, that our consciousness is an emergent property, same with our intelligence and the two different personality traits that appear on the brain being split into two hemispheres are on that path.
I do wonder though if being split introduces any differences from being born with a split, as in does being part of a whole create those traits or if those would’ve happened regardless of when the split happened and being whole works like you described with some personality traits suppressing the others.
I also like the idea of incremental loading, even if it’s not that relevant anymore. Also, I don’t think your example of generation loss is enough as it’s just one image, I would like to see multiple randomly picked images passed through the same process but if the results are the same as here or barely anymore loss than the best option for any given image I do think that’s a good result to aim for.
Is there an actual specific reasonable interval or does it vary person to person (of course putting aside any specific issues like muscle injury in the area for an example)
You misread that comment, they are saying that the power generation will be detached from the grid if they go this way and then if the AI gains control of nuclear bombs (separate thing from what the article is about) like shown in fictional stories they’ll not have a reason to not use it as they won’t be afraid of affecting their own power generation

That’s what they’re saying I think? First they saw Germany, then they would’ve seen America? Though idk if those people were immigrants or the second generation of immigrants
But considering sliced bread is treated as an amazing invention (at least the phrase “best thing since sliced bread” would have you believe that) then maybe whoever invented sliced bread was also responsible for inventing sandwiches.
As for what people did before sliced bread? I’ve seen people tear pieces from a bread loaf and use it to soak liquids, so I assume that was the method used for all uses of bread.
Every few years I think of that idea, but then we might need to also account for the ease of learning for people with different language bases and the acceptance rate (because of all the nationalistic bs imo)

I am not in the US and not locked into a contract and neither is anyone I know IRL but nonetheless we do upgrade at the same cadence. As for the people who upgrade their phones yearly, unless they’re keeping the old phones in a locked box I think it is not that bad if those old phones see use as an upgrade for someone else (either given or sold as a second hand device) or even if those phones run duty as a makeshift device.
I personally think it only becomes a problem if it’s literally e-waste or if the majority of people were upgrading yearly (which is again because it’ll lead to the first problem but felt like putting it separately too). If it’s playing some role in the world it’s okay¹ in my book.
^(1: I wonder if people who use their old phones as a secondary device (eg: a music player for running)^) ^(are creating e-waste or not. As in if it would’ve been better if they used only one device for both purposes and either gave/sold the old phone or didn’t buy a new phone in the first place. After all one could make the case that battery degradation would make them need an earlier upgrade)
