Armor was a status symbol and includes sexualized designs to demonstrate the girth of your penis prowess.

As I understand it, it was also a sort of advertisement. It was basically saying “It took a lot of money to make this fancy armor, so I’m worth more alive and ransom-able rather then dead on this battlefield”

Just as a disclaimer: I can count on one hand the number of films I’ve seen in the theater but the answer is “none”.

Sludgehammer,

Only for a while.

Once the narrative changed he did comics showing the poor innocent insurrectionists being baited into attacking the capitol building. I think there were a couple “false flag” narrative comics too.

It’s like watching a child who stubbornly refuses to learn that touching a glowing stove coil is bad.

Sludgehammer,

Kinda hard to categorize. I mean, child me would have lost their mind over most modern games, but back when I was a kid in the late 80’s having a game who’s gameplay was more complex than “shoot till you die” was revolutionary. As such I’m gonna rank my three picks taking into account to the era they released.

Adventure. Adventure was a goal oriented… well, adventure game. That doesn’t sound like much now but at the time it was amazing. You had to move multiple items one at a time while dodging dragons (or killing them if you had the right item) to complete the game. Add in a item stealing bat and a item randomizer mode and for the time it was a truly amazing game for the time.

Chrono Trigger. Chrono Trigger joins time traveling with the standard “saving the world” storyline, but somehow it’s more than the sum of it’s parts. IMO Chrono Trigger is the pinnacle of the SNES JRPG with the perfect mix of taking itself seriously and just being a fun RPG.

Binding of Issac. One of the early “Roguelike unlock-a-thon” games BoI has just the right mix of “I want to unlock a new item” and “How broken will this run get?” that keeps me coming back. Granted, I’m combining the original Binding of Issac with Rebirth through Afterbirth here, but there’s enough continuity for me to group them all together.

IIRC there has been speculation that teosinte was originally cultivated for their stalks which were juiced much like sugar cane. Only later when a mutation got rid of the rock hard seed coat did it become a grain crop.

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

This has the feel of something that actually happened.

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

IMO Fallout 3 had it’s time frame shifted at some point in its development. I mean take Little Lamplight, it’d make sense if it were 5-10 years after the war, as would all the relatively pristine ruins everywhere. It’d also explain why getting fresh water was such a urgent priority… despite the wastelanders managing without for 200 years.

However, I’m guessing the “less then a decade after the war” didn’t square with the aesthetic and lore they wanted to do, so the time frame of the game shifted several centuries forward, leaving odd bits of “just after the war” lore and set pieces.

Hey, if a woman won’t put in the effort to grow extra limbs I’m just not interested.

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

Well… you gotta hand it to them, that’s a succinct summary.

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

It’s so great that I’m sure some dispensary is already using it.

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

I mean, to be fair both consoles are over a decade old. Still not happy about it.

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

However, without an alternative to get a lot of these games, it feels very shitty.

Well… while there’s no legal way to get many of the 3DS games, there are still plenty of alternatives available.

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

Eh, he’s probably just trolling, your point still stands though.

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

It’s amusing to consider that Musk could have bought one of the many dying alt-right Twitter clones and achieved the same results for billions of dollars less. But no, he had to turn Twitter itself into a dying Twitter clone.

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, IMO he was trying to do a pump and dump in the same style of his crypto pump and dumps, but he managed to make some legally binding statements while doing the pump.

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

Tesla stock is massively overpriced. I mean Tesla stock is going for $246, meanwhile Ford and General Motors stocks are going for $12 and $33 respectively.

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

The tiny Trump sticker is the cherry on top.

Sludgehammer,

The funny thing is that some medieval bricklayer made a conscious choice here, he could have put that brick paw-print down and made a flawless floor. Now, here we are getting a chuckle out of some unknown bricklayer’s little gag centuries later.

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

Glad I had headphones on when I clicked that.

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

Well, yeah. But I wasn’t expecting it to be that, uh… intense.

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t think it’s even about that, they’re angry because the want to be angry. The why doesn’t matter, if the current right wing outrage du-jour had been… I dunno, left handed people rather than trans people, you’d see all the same people working themselves into a screaming tantrum if a game or movie had a left handed person in it.

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

What gets me is this shows he knew how much of a disaster this was gonna be. It’s like saying “Hmm… before I shoot myself in the foot, I should sell my shoes!”

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

I can’t quite see it, but I’m really guessing there’s some sort of money laundering angle here.

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

I’d read a comic with bishie Batman.

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

Um… Obama isn’t the king of drone strikes, the Trump administration surpassed the total number Obama era drone strikes in under two years IIRC.

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

Eh, a camera can be useful, on the 3DS it’s great for scanning a QR code rather then manually entering a url.

And really at this point why not throw a camera on the Switch 2? The parts for a cellphone camera is like what… a couple bucks?

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

That’s not how a face lift is supposed to work.

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

IMO Mush was trying to run a simple pump and dump scheme with Twitter stock. You know, make some statements about ho he’s going to buy it at a massively inflated price, sell all the stock during the uptick and then suddenly find some issue with the sale and leave. However, during the “make some statements” phase he managed to make some legally binding statements and Twitter and their lawyers held him to them.

So there’s no agenda or plan really, just a larger version of the Dogecoin pump and dumps that Mush has done in the past. It’s just this time rather than some crypto rubes he tried running it on a company with lots of lawyers and it blew up in his face.

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

IMO how things taste varies wildly from person to person. To me Beyond burger has a weird flavor that I dislike that never goes away.

Impossible burgers are a much better meat replacement to my taste buds. They’re still not 100%, there’s always a bite or two at the start were they taste off, but after that they taste pretty much like a cheap hamburger.

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

Impossible burger is usually more salty than beef even before cooking. Not enough to be salty tasting, but if you’re trying to eat a low sodium diet they have a fair bit more than real beef.

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

It’s not too surprising. Tomatoes are usually eaten uncooked, so the seeds are almost always viable when they hit the sewer system. Add to that tomatoes are tropical, so when a seed hits the soil it’s gonna start growing.

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t know what your neck of the woods is like but here in “High altitude misery land, were subsoil is the only soil in your yard and it’ll freeze in June because fuck you” it’s a struggle to get anything out of the garden.

This year, something went wrong with the peppers and tomatoes I started indoors (I suspect the potting soil) and they never grew over 1.5 inches tall, even after they were hardened off and planted outdoors in proper soil. As such, I bought a pepper and a tomato from a retail store. The pepper is still only about a foot tall, but the tomato was actually bushing out fairly well, about 4’ tall… and then something ate it down to maybe 3’-2.5’-ish. The squash I started indoors did much better and survived hardening off well. After I put them into the garden the earwigs actually waited a whole week to eat them down to stumps. And I absolutely need to water… it takes about two days for the plants to start wilting.

My garden makes me appreciate the supermarket every year.

Basically Gamergate started as some butthurt guy trying to get revenge on his ex by claiming she slept around to get better reviews on her (free) game. Gamergaters used this as an example of corruption, thus the rallying cry of “Ethics in gaming journalism”.

However, in actuality Gamergate was driven by gaming going from a niche hobby to a mainstream entertainment. Many gamers were increasingly unhappy that games stopped exclusively catering to people like them (i.e. white and nerdy males) and started making token efforts to appeal to other groups. This combined with the spark of the butthurt guy’s lame attempt at slander birthed Gamergate, a fig leaf of “ethics” used to justify and to cover up a seething mass of resentment, misogyny and racism.

transfer non-seasonal items to a seasonal character.

I haven’t been following Diablo 4, could somebody explain this bit? The article doesn’t explain why transferring items is so disruptive, or what seasonal and non-seasonal items are.

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

It’s so mortifying that I bought into the Mush hype for a few years. It’s one of those “embarrassing things you did as a kid” levels of self cringe.

Sludgehammer,

I’m honestly surprised that no other phone manufacture has gone the Xperia Play route and just made a gaming cellphone. I mean all these handheld emulation devices show that there’s a market for emulation on the go and everyone needs a cell phone now, so why has there only been one phone that combines them?

Google ordered to pay $339M for stealing the very idea of Chromecast (www.androidauthority.com)

Chromecast has been one of those smaller hardware products that have brought about a meaningful experience upgrade. The first Chromecast solved the pain point of clunky TV software interfaces, making it easier to locate content on your handy smartphone and then play it on your big-screen TV. However, a Court in the US has ruled...

Sludgehammer,

This headline is much funnier when your skimming headlines and misread it as “Google ordered to pay $339M for stealing the very idea of Christmas”

More like “botnets strong”. That’s what really soured me on the second /r/place, it was completely taken over by crypto fanatics and meme stock morons running bots.

I think it’s because it’s still smaller than Reddit.

This is just my opinion, but since modern right wing is reactionary they (by definition) require people to react to and rally against. In turn they need people to react to them for validation. Just look at any of the many right wing social media clones, without a “leftist” audience to perform for they inevitably get bored and leave, causing the site to slowly wither and die.

Sludgehammer,
@Sludgehammer@lemmy.world avatar

Let Reddit Digg their own grave.

Okay, that got a chuckle out of me.
